The Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, nestled on a secluded beachfront, is celebrated for its stunning atmosphere and spacious rooms, according to many guests. Despite its somewhat remote location, the resort's impressive pool and direct beach access are highlights for visitors. The service is typically friendly, though some guests have encountered slow responses.
While the resort's cleanliness is often praised, there are mentions of aging amenities and maintenance issues. Moreover, several travelers question the value, pointing out high rates that don't always match the experience.

Detailed Reviews
The entrance to the Sheraton Grand Mirage is big and beautiful. Full of light and views out to white sands and the beach as you check in with the friendly staff. The rooms are a decent size, albeit they could do with a bit of a renovation to breathe in a little more life. The bathrooms are okay, but the windows desperately need double glazing (it can get very loud if you have a room on the outside of the resort next to the road). The walls to the room are also very thin and a special shout out to that guy who would wake up at 6am every morning and run after his screaming kid down the corridor. The beach is a short walk out the back of the resort and it’s only a 20 minute walk into the main area of Surfers.
If you search for the Sheraton Grand Mirage, Gold Coast website you will find many photos of their amazing swimming pools, which appear to encompass the whole resort. I can’t decide if this is marketing hype taking license with the truth or just a blatant lie. There is only one usable swimming pool in the resort and it gets full quickly. There is what appears to be another larger swimming pool in front, as you look out from the bar and restaurant as you check in, but there is no swimming allowed in this water and it’s used only for decoration, holding a few statues. Then there are the many water ways outside of the rooms. If you’ve ever been to the Sheraton Grand in Port Douglas, you’ll be familiar with the concept of slipping off your balcony and into a meter or two of water that joins onto the larger pools. This is not the case for the Sheraton in Gold Coast. These waterways are for appearance only and more like a magicians sleight of hand. The international breakfast buffet is plentiful and has all the usual dishes, but you’ll be paying a lot for it when you can easily walk across the road to the Marina and pay a quarter of the price for what you really want.
I understand the remote location of the Sheraton will appeal to a lot of people, but I couldn’t help but feel disconnected from all the life and action in Surfers. That said, Sea World is an easy five minute walk down the road.
My advice, for what it’s worth, is if you want the true definition of Grand, fly a little further north and stay at the Sheraton Grand Resort in Port Douglas - big brother of the Sheraton in Gold Coast. The swimming pools are amongst the largest and most impressive I have ever seen in any resort hotel, and unlike Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast you can swim in all of them!

Dear Chris N Thank you for the time you have taken to post such a long review on our resort, sharing in detail your insights and impressions on many aspects including the Oasis Pool, our lagoons and our location. We regret you were disturbed by other guests early in the morning, and also for your expectations not being met with regards our Swimming Pool. The support you have extended in choosing our resort for your visit up from Melbourne is appreciated, as is your 4 out of 5 rating...thank you again Chris N. warm regards Mark

We just spent two nights at the Sheraton Mirage as a family of three. Although the hotel was busy being a long weekend, it was handled gracefully. It is one of the very few places where there are plenty of sunbeds, towels and umbrellas around the pool and they have a policy that you cannot reserve the sunbeds which is really good. The resort is just across the beach so you can hop in easily. You can hire bikes and go all the way to Surfers Paradise (and further) along the beach. The breakfast was very nice, really appreciated the barista coffee, the nice gentleman at the egg station and especially the DIY fruit juicer- brilliant.
I wish more people would use the reusable bottles that are offered for only 5$. That said the water in the Gold Coast is tastes extremely full of chlorine so I get it.
We also really appreciated the option to skip housekeeping for a $15 food/beverage voucher- win win win for hotel, guest and planet.
Only recommendation for improvement is to have flyscreens on some windows so you can keep them open.

Beautiful resort with beach frontage.
The location of the Sheraton was ideal for our young family - to enjoy both the pool and beach, away from the bustle of the Gold Coast CBD.
We stayed in a double lagoon room, which was clean, well appointed, and a good size for a family of 4. The little balcony which overlooks the lagoon was ideal to dry our swimming outfits.
The building is a little dated, but this was offset by the friendly service and location.
The food and beverage was reasonably priced for a Sheraton and very kid friendly with lots on offer.
The resort itself is a short stroll from SeaWorld and the concierge was more than helpful in arranging tickets to attend.
The resort also managed the covid restrictions well during our stay, and we actually preferred the staff served breakfast buffet offering. Our tip is to attend breakfast early to avoid the rush around 9am.
Overall a fantastic stay, excellent service, and a new favourite hotel for our family when we visit the Gold Coast.

We stayed here two nights in a Mirage Guest room (room 2059) and had a rather dissappointing stay. The staff were friendly and offered excellent service (especially Colbie from guest services) right up until the last day when we enquired about a late check out. Rhonda from guest services was extremely rude and hung up on me! We were informed check out was 11am however they have not updated the in room information which states check out of 12pm. Fortunately 12pm check out was honoured! Other in room info is outdated and states in room movies (no longer avail) and a old breakfast menu hanger!
I was overcharged at reception when settling my account. When using the toilets near reception a female cleaner walked into the male toilets while I was using them and continued cleaning them?! Totally unnaceptable.
The resort needs a LOT of maintenance. Pool tiles are cracked and one could easily cut their feet on them. Total refurbishment of pool is required. The carpets in room and corridor need replacing and are infested with moths. Walls in room need repainting. Curtains need replacing as there were holes from moths in them.
Price paid for room is unnaceptable for the state it is in and prices should be at least halved if management can not afford to upgrade rooms.
I would recommend the pool be closed until refurbished before someone injures themselves and takes legal action.
Also the ibis at the pool are a nuisance and it seems like the resort has not consulted with council to keep them from eating peoples pool food!
Finally, I have stayed in many 5 star big brand hotels across the globe and this one is definitely not up to a 5 star standard. I would recommend immediate renovations, halving prices of rooms, or closing resort down until renovations can be afforded rather than dissappointing people!

We have stayed here numerous times over the last 10 or more years and the hotel had been always of a high standard. The location is excellent and staff are genuinely friendly. While the rooms have been updated they have a lot of dark furniture with makes them feel dark. The buffet breakfast is ok but falls short of similar quality hotels. The standard fare is served but lack of quality breads and other items makes for a fairly average breakfast for the price. Similar comments apply for the seafood buffet served at night. The gym and lap pool are very disappointing for a Sheraton. The pool was closed and drained. The gym is within the Golden Door spa and was being used by a Personal Trainer running boxing classes with up to 5 people at a time. This meant that a good portion of the gym couldn't be used which limited what could be done at the gym. Some of the equipment was in poor condition as well. I haven't experienced any similar 5 star hotel that puts the guest 2nd in a gym so perhaps it's time for the hotel to create a specific hotel gym which is for hotel guests only. A disappointing stay.

Dear Reg_248 We sincerely apologise your latest resort experience was disappointing, from the Terraces Buffets, to The Golden Door Spa & Health Retreat. Your review has been shared with our Executive Chef, and with the Manager of The Golden Door, and the comments and feedback you have offered regarding the latter are well understood and appreciated. It is most concerning and disappointing to us all that we have not delivered a stay to the quality and enjoyment you have experienced in the past. If you could spare the time to be in touch with Sharon Hartridge in my office (61 7 5591 0873 or sharon.hartridge@sheraton.com) with details of your reservation it would enable us to note your experience this time around on your profile, and do everything we could to ensure future stays – if you do choose to return – are completely enjoyable. For the moment I thank you for your support over so many years Reg_248, and for your lovely comments on our team, who are definitely our resort's greatest asset. We are pleased also that you still enjoy our wonderful beachfront location here on The Spit. Hoping to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future. Warmest regards Mark

My husband and I were here for a short stay . We were fortunate to purchase a discounted package so we were happy with the prices we paid for what we got, however if we paid the full list price I would be walking away severely disappointed and feeling ripped off. The resort is comfortable and in its day would have been magnificent but it is now getting dated.
The staff are good and nearly always friendly .
We had a king guest room with partial ocean views in the north wing. The disadvantages of being in the north wing are you are away from most of the services, restaurants, pool etc but the advantage is far less noise. The rooms are pretty soundproof but the corridors and doors aren’t quite as good as they could be. We were on the second floor but if you’re able to ,request the third floor, it will give you better views and you are then on the best access level back to the main area.
The swimming pool area isn’t huge for the size of the resort, the beach out front is patrolled every day of the year but the ocean seems pretty wild , or it was while we were here. I am a reasonable ocean swimmer but was very careful the couple of times I went in the water.
The resort offers a voucher each day if you elect not to have your room serviced. It’s for $15 and can be used in any of the restaurants/ bar.
There are 3 different options for various meals in the resort, Pearl bar for snacks, Terraces for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the Oyster bar for dinner. We had buffets at breakfast and dinner in Terraces and found them quite good , however they were included in our package if we were paying the $48 and $90 price tags there are certainly less expensive options across the road. I will write seperate reviews for Terraces seafoods buffet and the oyster bar .
We enjoyed our stay but I doubt we will come back. We originally planned to purchase another pack with the intention of returning later this year but have changed our minds.

I have stayed in this hotel many times in the past and have seen it gradually deteriorate in almost all of its standards and services.
As a Marriott Titanium Elite lifetime member, I know what a reasonable standard in a hotel should be.
The Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast has lost its ability to recognize an elite member or obtain the standards of even a 3 star hotel.
I was given an ocean premium room, which previously were regarded as the top non suite rooms.
Unfortunately the current standard, look and services offered in these rooms you would only expect in a 3 star hotel at best.
My room was dirty on check in with a Bobby pin on the floor along with other dirt on the carpet, the state of maintenance is terrible, rust, doors and cabinets that look filthy, or need a touch up of paint.
I ordered a newspaper, and only received it on one day, never again . the sheets are only changed every three days, which is not advised until you realize that the bedding has not been changed. After discovering that my room was not cleaned at 3pm on the second day I requested an early clean, this took two days to occur. I was charged for services that I had not used, or were complimentary .
I requested extra towels that were there on check in, but not replaced after that. Coffee pods and sweetener were not replaced, in fact no matter how many times I complained, sweetener was never replaced.
The only area where there was any acceptable standard was the evening staff in Terraces restaurant, where Lauren, Megan and Barry were very professional. On the last night I dined in the Oyster Bar, which wa s my favorite on previous visits, and would have dined there more often, but the information I was sent stated that this restaurant was only open on Friday and Saturday . I found out on my visit that it was open from Thursday through to Sunday .whilst the servings were small, the food wa s outstanding as was the service from Steve and his team.
Almost everything in this hotel was under acceptable standards, and the hotel is in need of a complete renovation and update on elite members standards

Dear Paulbryde Thank you for sharing feedback across multiple forums including two reviews on your visit on this page. I am truly sorry that we were not able to upgrade you to a suite. We tried several times to address your concerns and unfortunately we simply couldn't meet your standards. We very much value our Marriott Bonvoy Members but with a 90% plus occupancy I am sorry that our suites were not available as they were sold. I greatly appreciate your positive feedback about some of the team, rest assured this will be passed on. Best regards, Keith

We loved it at the Sheraton Grand Mirage. This was our second visit.
The location, design and amenities are excellent. The staff were generally very courteous and friendly, and are truly the hotel’s main assets. Megan, Jasmine and Branka were especially attentive and helpful during our dining experiences.
The food was generally excellent. We especially enjoyed the grilled bugs, desserts and coffee. However, we thought that the seafood “ocean to plate” buffet was overpriced for what was being offered.
Room cleaning was good, but having 2 rooms as part our booking we noticed differences in the consistency of the room servicing e.g. omissions in cleaning or topping up of amenities.
Overall, a great holiday location.

Dear FredSG Your review on your return stay with us here is Sheraton Grand Mirage is appreciated, and thank you especially for highlighting the efforts of Megan, Jasmine, and Branka and all our associates who I agree are our resort’s greatest asset. The feedback you included on room servicing is also very welcome and and we regret those inconsistencies between your two rooms which has been shared with our Executive Housekeeper. We hope to you will come back for a third stay when you are next visiting the Gold Coast. Best regards, Keith

We did have a partial ocean view which was nice, but not high enough to see the waves crashing. The large room windows open all the way up to let plenty of fresh air in & would have been nice if there was a balcony, but none of the rooms have balconies. Housekeeping was fantastic on the first day and quickly declined after that. The resorts location is in a good spot on Main Beach, with a walkway across to arcade convenience shops, coffee, places to eat etc & market stalls. Just down the road from Sea World. A patrolled beach out the front of the resort & the large pool with swim up bar at the resort was very popular. The Oasis Pool Bar also offers a food menu which was good. Undercover parking available. The Pearls Bar opening at 3pm daily was a great place for afternoon or predinner snacks and drinks with a great view over the resort to the ocean. Very relaxing spot which had great service each day we went. The onsite restaurant was good, but not fantastic. Not being able to have buffet style due to Covid unfortunately impacted on our experience here. Breakfast did not have any smoked salmon as we have had at every other Sheraton Breakfast, so that was disappointing. Omlettes were tasty as were the chipolatas and pastries. Gluten Free had some options. Seafood Buffet was disappointing. The cold and hot crab was way overcooked and was not pleasant to eat at all. Some Prawns (must of been mixed batches) were way salty. I would stay here again & hope that things improve for the better with the exy price tag.

Dear hippie Thank you for choosing our resort and for taking the time to post such a detailed review regarding your recent weekend getaway. Your insights and impressions are appreciated, and we apologise for the lapse in Housekeeping Services and for your disappointment with the Terraces Breakfast and Dinner offerings. The feedback you have kindly provided has been shared with our Executive Housekeeper and our Food & Beverage Leadership team. With regards your comments on balconies, in addition to the villas which you mentioned in your Room Tips - all of which have balconies - we also have hotel accommodation which feature patios - Garden Terrace and Lagoon being our guaranteed ground level room categories - which are very popular for guests to sit outside of their rooms beside the gardens or lagoons. Perhaps that would be an option for your next visit? hippie, thank you again for your support. The team and I would like to extend the warmest of Festive Season wishes and good health and happiness for the New Year 2021. Best regards, Keith

We stayed over the Christmas break. Overall we enjoyed our stay, however there are a few things management could improve on.
1 The speed at which rooms are cleaned could be improved; in our example housekeeping didn’t arrive until 4.15pm and we were back in our room. It meant they had to return once we left for dinner and we returned to an unkept room.
2 The al a carte breakfast could be improved too. We ordered al a carte and it appeared that our items were picked up from the buffet and put on plates. For example the poached eggs had been sitting out as they weren’t runny but hard inside, the bacon was dry. As a five star hotel, it would be great if fresh green juice or fresh coconuts could be offered, similarly to European five star hotels.
3 We asked for a late check out on our booking however had to follow up when there was no commentary from staff. The request was denied, even though it was Christmas Day and we only needed 45 minutes extra.
We liked the water fountains on every floor- a great way to preserve the environment and provide water to guests.
The reception staff are friendly and welcoming.

I haven't stayed there but eaten there quite a few times. It's not 5 star more like 4, the food is good, the staff and service is fantastic. I think the pool would be good if not school holidays as it isn't huge. It's a lovely looking resort but aged. I hope I may have helped.
Yes, we have stayed many times and there have been friends of guests turn up and use the pool and stay for lunch etc,
when any food or drinks are ordered you can pay by either booking to your room or paying by credit debit card at the pool bar kiosk
It was FREEZING!!!!!! Definitely not 27-28 degrees.
yes they do, the food is excellent
