We booked the star for a special occasion in January 2022. The check in was a zoo, we were lucky to get our room without delay but many were left disappointed due to apparent staff shortages. The room was small but nicely renovated, but in no way reflected the exorbitant price paid. Room service was not available for breakfast nor was the garden bar for a la carte, and we thought better than to go to the buffet so went across the road to pacific fair instead for breakfast. If you can’t supply the services, don’t charge surge prices please.

Disgraceful service by your security staff with my 77 year old mother was turned away Christmas Day lunch as she only had a print out of her Covid vaccination certificate she does not have a my gov account nor does she have a mobile phone. Christmas lunch in the events centre was appalling. Half the oysters I ate I spat out. The hot food was abysmal dried out turkey and lamb cold no salads. No bread rolls no salt and pepper for $300 a head it was a disgrace. Only got serviced drinks once plates were not cleared away. We’ve been going to the Casino every year for ten years for Christmas lunch NEVER AGAIN!!! Your security needs a talking too. I had to send my Mother home in a taxi and buy her Uber eats. We stayed for 45 mins and left!!!! Dreadful!

What a joke. As a party of 4 fully vaccinated individuals carrying legal identification, we were refused entry as one of us (a 71 year old gentleman) had a photo of the vaccination evidence rather than the linked tick through the QLD check-in app as he has never had a Medicare or mygov account. More absurd, we were told that a photo was not acceptable because it was "editable" whereas a PDF (or somehow, even MORE ridiculously, a printout) was acceptable as they were not able to be doctored...seriously..?? This was a blatant refusal of entry on the discriminatory factor of age, and supported by an absurd ruling of "this is what we say". This was not a legal refusal of entry based upon the mandate of the Queensland government, this was not even a legal refusal of entry due to a lack of vaccination. This was purely and simply a vindictive refusal of entry to an elderly man who didn't have the right app tick, but still planned ahead to be able to provide evidence of his vaccination status. Have you even heard of the anti-discrimination act @star? What a joke. I look forward to a detailed response with the specifications of the legality of your refusal.

Came for a family holiday, very disappointing. Pubic hairs on toilet, 2ply limited toilet paper, rude staff, understaffed, room not serviced no fresh towels told they were understaffed & to fill in a complaints form when leaving. I would give it a 2 star rating. In a nutshell understaffed & unhappy staff with poor training. We will be staying somewhere else on our next family holiday.

I recently treated my husband to a one-night stay at The Star. We purchased a package which included breakfast & a $50 dining credit. Parking was easy, we found a spot very close to the entrance. Check-in was a rather long process. We arrived at 3pm, there was a queue of around 25 people. They did have champagne, I am a non-drinker & would have preferred a water but they didn’t have any options for that. We didn’t mind the wait, though some in the line were getting rowdy and abusive. I don’t think we got the keys to our room until 4pm. Prior to arrival, I had emailed the hotel to request we have breakfast in Harvest Buffet as it was reopening on the day of our check-out. Once we made it through the queue, we were checked in and we were told breakfast would be in Garden Kitchen, having read such negative reviews I requested if we could please have Harvest, and were told this wouldn’t be a problem. We were assigned 1948 a King Executive Room, and I have to say the rooms have definitely received an upgraded. I found our room pleasant, though like many others we had issues with the TV reception, remote not working etc. The bed was incredibly comfortable, pillows not so much. The walls are incredibly thin, our neighbors partied through the night finally falling asleep at 6am. In the morning we went to Harvest for breakfast and were told there was no booking for us, but the staff resolved that quickly and I have to say, the breakfast was really yum. Used express checkout at around 8am and headed home. After we checked out, I received an email from the hotel stating we would not be allowed to have breakfast at Harvest. I don’t know if we will stay again. The Star is considered premium, but from what I saw it barely managed a 4 star property and the service certainly didn’t match.
