Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We recently stayed at The Dorsett on a family holiday to the Gold Coast. Overall, we had a good experience but there are definitely some basics that as a hotel they need to work on. The location is great, with easy access to Broadbeach, Pacific Fair and public transport. The rooms are lovely, albeit lacking some practicalities as mentioned in other reviews. We had a lovely view of the city skyline. Our check in process was great, the Reception team and concierge were incredibly helpful and obliging. We loved the pool area, it’s a great spot to relax and it lovely to swim in. What actually let our stay down was the housekeeping, which by Day 5 of our stay just became a huge frustration. The toiletries, coffee pods and tea/coffee/sugar sachets were not full to begin with, but didn’t actually get replenished until the final day of our stay - after multiple requests over the previous days. It was not ideal to have to even ask for such a basic thing once, let alone multiple times until it actually got actioned. Our room was also not serviced until after 5:00pm each day, which was hugely problematic when we’d been out all day, come back to get ready for dinner and didn’t have clean towels to have a shower, etc. Our coffee mugs and teaspoons didn’t get replaced for clean ones at any point throughout our stay, despite multiple requests - they just sat on the bench, dirty. It is something so basic, yet so crucial, and I felt like I was starting to sound like a broken record with continuous requests for things that should have just been a given. It became far more frustrating than it needed to be, when it was just not being actioned and it is apparent that the hotel is possibly not used to having guests stay longer than a couple of nights as there doesn’t seem to be a housekeeping process for those that are staying a little longer. Such a shame that this factor is the thing that would probably make us choose not to return, as everything else was great.

Our 2 night stay at Dorsett was a success. We arrived early and our room wasn’t ready, were too we could pay to upgrade and have the room early but chose not to so they called us when the room was ready. Beautiful clean modern hotel, the room was lovely, comfy beds and pillows. Lovely Elemis toiletries. Nice shower. Beautiful pool area. The main negative for us was that the room was freezing cold. We would turn the air con off and when we came back it would be back on and the room was like an igloo. It was uncomfortably cold. They could do with upgrading to coffee machines with pods rather than sachets Great view of the pool from the room The pool was quite busy, on the first day we couldn’t get a lounger so left. Second day we were able to spend the day at the pool. It was lacking pool service and there were a lot of dirty cups and plates etc laying around which nobody was bothering to clean up

I was excited to stay at the new Dorsett hotel as I've stayed at other hotels on the Star property and always had an amazing experience, however, I was left disappointed and thinking that this hotel isn't for professionals or business travelers, and is more suitable for schoolies or people who don't need to be in the room for any amount of time. This hotel definitely seems to cater to weekend party-goers, not mid-week business travelers. If you're accustomed to good service and great amenities then the Dorsett Hotel is probably not for you. It's more like a 3-star basic hotel with no extras. Pros: Great location, modern and new. Amazing pool deck with heated pool. Rooms have a nice balcony with chairs and a table. Easy check-in and check-out. Decent soundproofing between units. Room service and delivery to the pool were available (the pool bar restaurant is closed mid-week). Cons: Parking is limited and an additional cost of $20 per day, rooms do not have a desk and chair, room fridge is ridiculously tiny - could barely fit a water bottle. No ice makers or onsite water refill stations. Restaurants, cafes, and bars have limited opening hours and many of the restaurants on Star property are not open during the week outside of the school holidays so plan accordingly. Bathrooms don't have enough hanging space for towels and while it looks great, lacks practicality - why have the soap dispenser at the opposite end of the sink from the tap? Overall, it was the lack of thought into how people actually use a space that is the letdown, but if you're into a place that looks like it's out of a designer magazine, and would be great on Insta or socials, then this would probably suit you just fine.

Checkin process appalling in this day and age how many people carry physical credit/debit cards or put another way how many pay using phone or watch!! this venue insists on having a physical card so they can take a $200 bond to cover extra expenses all others just place a $1 on your card and we know why $200 don't we! number of rooms x $200 every night and a likely lengthy wait for a refund - nice little earner! but wait theres more! there in no mini bar no restaurant or much else that you are likely to put on your bill! Room had no desk, chair, only one hook for hanging wet towels, in a double room, a small rail on the shower door for the bath mat and nowhere the hang hand towel unless you use the one on the shower door but then where do you hang the wet bath mat and is there any point in hanging the hand towel on the shower door rail which is about 1.5mts from the sink? USB ports next to the bed not working

The minute you walk into reception you feel the right vibes! Staff very helpful. The ground floor coffee shop only provided hot drinks and snacks, but there was an array of restaurants in the Star Casino which you could access via the 3rd floor, as well as walk through the Casino to get to the Convention Centre. The room size was okay and the Executive Lounge was awesome, with a balcony with panoramic views of the Surfers Paradise skyline. The pool is on level 6 & ticks all the boxes! The hotel is a short walk to Broadbeach and its restaurants strip, mall and shops! On the beach you can play volleyball! The room clothes hanging space could be bigger but okay, bathroom spacious.

This is very much a 4 star hotel, and the positives are there is a great pool and rooms are good. It is a short walk to the beach. Access to the casino can be done via the hotel. Negatives are check in was a long process, queuing for quite some time and could be streamlined a lot better. We purchased the breakfast which is served in the dedicated executive area. We’re not told that we needed a special key to access this area for breakfast so it was a bit of a run around to just get in the room. Breakfast was not worth it, was not impressed with selection (much better breakfast and worth paying for is the Sofitel across the road). It was a very limited variety and not for anyone who loves a hearty breakfast. Overall nice hotel and worth it if you get a good deal.

The positives - good size room, very accommodating staff. Excellent shower facility The negatives - no storage for clothing in the room, very poor Wifi connection, which didn't allow Chromecast connection to the tv as offered. no pool service, instead a pub like bar with pagers. Over all, we wouldn't stay another time.
