After checking into our room at the Mt. Cook Lodge, we drove up to the Hermitage for lunch. At the Hermitage they have a very large dining room with a first class buffet. We had a really wonderful afternoon buffet which also served as our evening meal. The Hermitage itself is a luxury high rise hotel. It has a spacious... More

Not very accommodating given the amount of rooms available. We were looking for snacks after 9pm and even though the menu lists (see photo) a number of items available, all we could obtain were chips and nuts. Mixed drinks were sub-par and what you'd expect with continuous staff turnover.

A very classic 6-storeyed hotel which also hosts the Edmund Hillary Alpine Center. I did not stay there but stopped over on my way from christchurch to queenstown. Can get fantastic views of Mt Cook from the Cafe in the hotel. Thy have indoor seating as well as outdoor seating on the deck. Dont miss the statue of Ed Hillary... More

Booked thru tour group. Mount Cook from the room in all its splendour. Modern and clean. The shower floor is slick does not have a rubber floor mat so request one. The buffet breakfast between 7 & 0830 is a mad house with upto 4 or 5 tour buses using on regular base for 8 months of the year. Good... More

It is not a bad hotel but for the price we paid, we really expected a lot more. However, I think 70% of the price is to pay for the view. The bad thing is that it was so cloudy we didn’t even manage to see Mt. Cook! We had a superior room. It has simple wood décor, which is... More

Our room was on the 2nd floor and faced directly onto MT Cook - we had a balcony. The service was excellent - reception, bar, etc. The room and bathroom were only small and not many extras provided in the way of tea/coffee/utensils but OH that view.

Facilities are great value for money with rooms having a great view up the valley looking straight at the great mountain. On the journey there enjoy the views of the lakes and the delightful blue colouring of the water. Food was of a high quality

We were there recently just for one night Pros: -Great Customer Service -Amazing Views -Easiest place to stay at Mt Cook -onsite activities and restaurants -Excellent dinner buffet -the drive up is SPECTACULAR Cons: It's not luxury, it's like a standard lodge type accommodation, but I'm sure it's the best there is in the remote location. The rooms are large... More

I agree with previous reviewers about the pros and cons of the hotel. We were prebooked/prepaid by our travel company into a premiere room which was the highlight of our stay. It was spacious, with a balcony and windows facing the mountain, otherwise, I would have to rate the hotel as average compared to other places we have stayed in... More

The setting of The Hermitage at the base of Mt. Cook in the Southern Alps is stunning. The location allows views of and hikes below the peaks around Mt. Cook. The Hermitage is an average hotel with an almost exclusive clientele of tourists. Compared to other mountain lodges in the US West, it is adequate. Rooms are older and in... More
