As a fan of Macdonald Group of Hotels you come to expect a certain standard but Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel in Preston failed to come near the normal standard. Reception and ground floor was one up from a Premier Inn type of establishment but upstairs, and certainly our room which was as far from reception as possible along several long...

Always fancied staying at this hotel when travelling up North - can now put a tick in the box but with great disappointment. We stayed in a club classic which was very dated - like the rest of the hotel. Room was warm with no air conditioning- when opened the window could hear the M6. Pillows have definitely had better...

Awful, thick dust around all the edges of the room. Coffee splashes up the bedroom wall, broken lampshade, leaking bath, stained, ripped and hanging off curtains, minging chair dusty, bathroom fan not working, bath panel falling apart. Charged an extra £50 per night (£150) because I paid with a debit card. This was not mentioned at all, I checked my...

A friend and I met here as it is pretty much half way between where we both live. We ate at the steakhouse and it was OK, but nothing fantastic for the price to be honest. Not great service. We were not drinking as we were both driving, decided to nip to the bathroom and informed the waitress we would...

We booked an executive room but the experience was definitely not this - more 3* minus. The room was a good size with and excellent shower; however, the "air conditioning" was an electric wall heater and a window. There was one face cloth to share. Breakfast was included ... but turned out to be continental only with a supplement for...

Overall a nice hotel. Breakfast waiting staff were excellent. Front desk staff courteous and pleasant enough but not attentive. Complained about noise at 5.30am but didn't seem able to deal with it. House keeping not great - bins not emptied no clean glasses. Despite all this would stay again but as in title not really a 4star hotel

Every time I rang the hotel, no one could locate the promotion. When they eventually found the pronation I booked a room and I asked if a deposit was required and was told it was not. Two days later I received a text message and telephone call from...

Nice food - menu mainly steaks and traditional fayre. Pleasant relaxed interior and riverside views. It cost about £20 per person to eat there, although if you had a good steak its more like £30+ per person.

Couldn't fault it in any way! Perfect service (and I'm picky), great portion size, very tasty food and relaxing atmosphere. On booking I was asked if any special requests and as it was Mother's Day the request for Cauliflower Cheese by one of the mothers was perfectly honoured with subtle style and no fuss, they were just glad to help...
