Decided to play here despite the higher cost than other courses as looked exceptional. We were not disappointed. On arrival you simply pull up and the very friendly staff take your clubs and park your car. Given a very nice keyring on arrival and personalised bag tag after the round. Starter takes you (follow his buggy) to the practice area where you can hit all shots as needed. Starter then takes you to the first tee (allowed to tee off early despite having first twighlight tee time). You feel like you have the course to yourself with the layout and the 12 min tee intervals. Course was immaculate. Challenging yes but unless you were a proper hacker then playable for all levels (they choose your tee based on handicap). Lots of water but no long carries. Played Gramacho and Vilamoura Old after this (both great courses) and only after playing those courses did I appreciate the high level of quality that Monte Rei offered. Remember, you get what you pay for but also no charge for buggy and range balls and 4 bottles of water; all adds up!…
Monte Rei certainly lived up to our expectations. The villa was very spacious and clean with everything you might possibly need provided. Outside there was an enclosed patio and garden area which was perfect for sunbathing and dining of an evening. The staff really cannot do enough for you. There is a shuttle service provided for getting around the resort but a would highly recommend hiring a car as there isn't a shop on the resort and you might want to eat at the local restaurants as the ones on resort can be pricey. We ate at all 3 restaurants, Vista's, Veranda and The Grill. While Vista's is the star of the show, The Grill provides an adequate(but pricey - club sandwich 16 euros??) menu the Veranda fell way short of the others in regards to quality. The golf course is stunning and a real test for any standard of golfer bearing in mind the choice of tees available. The design is probably the best i've seen in Portugal. Again, the Golf staff cannot do enough, they take your bags on arrival, put them on the buggy, take you to the excellent practice area and then when your tee time comes they collect you from the practice area an take you to the first tee. Once done they clean your clubs while you enjoy a beer! All in all we had an excellent experience and stay at Monte Rei. Would we go back? yes, especially once the second course is completed. If you haven't tried it i highly recommend it.…
A very nice course that was in good condition. Friendly staff. A bit hilly for my liking and not a course you could walk easily. Clubhouse food was nice. Probably a bit too hard a course for the majority of amateur golfers. Definitely worth a visit but not one I will rush back to. Buy balls before you go, €7 per ball for a Pro V1 in the proshop !!…
Went with my wife to spend the last 4 days of our Portugal holiday playing golf at the Algarve. We decided to stay at the Monte Rei villas as they are spacious and high quality on site of the resort. The villas are spacious and great quality. We didnt use everything but they have a kitchen, living room, TVs, stereo, washing machines etc. so everything you need. It was good to come back to a spacious facility to chill and relax, loved it. The staff overall whether golf or others are exceptional, they get what exceptional service means and you feel this. Never found any reason to find fault. The golf staff in particular are just superb, you feel like a honored guest at all times. Now the golf. As a comparison we played the courses at Vale do Lobo which is about a hour away by car. The Ocean course was really nice at Vale do Lobo, but Monte Rei is just in a different league - world class. We have played golf in over 30 countries in countless courses and I can safely say that the Monte Rei experience is at the top. World class course, each hole is a challenge, manicured fairways and greens. This is not for the high handicapper in terms of enjoyment because the course will penalize mistakes. Even if you make the green in regulation the putts are incredibly tricky. What a pleasure to play this course twice. From the moment you check in for the golf it is smooth as silk. They take you to the driving range which is again world class with superb service. The staff would just anticipate your every need, just exceptional. If you want a golf experience that stays with you, this is it. Monte Rei, don’t change anything, it’s perfect. Some other tips - you must visit the fishing villages or towns around the area for food because the seafood is excellent. One recommendation which was exceptional was Polvo and Companhia at Santa Lucia which is an Octopus fishing village. Just delicious food. Every evening we would drive out to the towns around the region for a good meal.…
From the moment you eventually arrive, you know that this is a very special place. There is absolutely nothing I can criticise about this wonderful golf course. My third trip and I just cant wait for the next visit.
