In 2007, my boyfriend and I had a fantastic stay in the Chateau itself and I had been dreaming of a return ever since. As the kickoff to an international travel sabbatical, I reserved Glycines in Le Cottage and happily discovered it was the perfect combination of historic charm and modern amenities. Each day began with a leisurely jog -...

I second what all the other reviews say. This is a wonderful place. The history is amazing, but what is most awesome is having your own castle for your stay. It is meticulously appointed. The rooms are better than the pictures. My 11 yo daughter felt like a pricess for a night. They actually have a Marie Antionette dress made...

The Count Guy and Countess are wonderful hosts and pleased to show you around their "Family Home". The room (Yellow in our case this visit) was extremely luxurious with all the comforts you would expect. The Chateau is in a number of guidebooks but we found again through Wolsley Lodges (always quality). We had a lovely breakfast with home made...

Turn off the main road, past the gate-keeper’s lodge, past the sheep grazing under the huge old trees, arrive at the white gravel courtyard of Chateau de la Barre and enter into a different time-space. The mere fact that this property has been owned by just one family since 1404 – that’s 606 years! – makes a stay here more...

Which wonder that this castle! The reception is equal to the beauty of the place. We have particularly appreciated the elegance of the rooms, the beauty of the park and the exquisite kindness of the our hostess Marnie and her husband Guy. We will return to the Château de la Barre, this is sure!!

My husband & I stayed at Chateau de la Barre four days as one stop of three on our honeymoon- it was NOT enough. The Chateau is tucked away behind the trees so you cannot see it from the road; but once you enter the drive it is breathtaking. You immediately feel as though you are going back in time,...

Chateau de la barre is not difficult to find, being just next to the main road after exiting St Calais but do note that it is not listed on GPS. A quick phonecall to the owners, Guy and Marnie should help you get on track quite easily, though. The Chateau is beautiful. Quite like what you see in the photos,...

Waking up in this chateau is like being transported back to more gracious times. Peaceful, luxurious and a completely different experience awaits one here. Drinks on the terrace before dinner with the Comte and Comtesse, dinner with them, and coffee, chocs, and after dinner drinks in the Rose Salon with the other guests. Sublime.

Our Family Group of two adults and two teens was part of a larger family group of 20 gathered for a family reunion. I corresponded with Marnie, the Comtesse, as we were making initial arrangements. Our group ranged in age from 12 to 84 so we had a few details to work out in the onset. She was so enjoyable...

For an extraordinary experience in the Loire Valley, plan to stay at the Chateau de la Barre. We felt as if we the personal guests of the Count and Countess (Guy and Marnie) in their lovely and historic home. We had a beautiful room overlooking their private parkland complete with sheep. They gave us excellent recommendations for visiting the famous...
