Overall our 4 night stay as a family was good. We stayed in one of the apartments which was spacious and had most things needed for self catering. It would benefit from some oven trays. There was a stale smell which the team are obviously aware of giving the amount of plug in air fresheners. The apartment itself could have been a little cleaner, the carpets could have benefited from a proper hoover and a shampoo and there were marks on the bin, round taps in the bathrooms and food items in the kitchen sink. Each day when we returned to the apartment the cleaning staff were parked in the bay allocated for our apartment, giving that they clean vacant rooms could they not park in the vacant space associated with the apartment? There was also a tray of dirty laundry etc left in the corridor next to our apartment for 3 days. There was no noise issues, it was very quiet and peaceful. The grounds were nice and well kept and good for a short walk. Our wee boy enjoyed the ducks and swing park. Although we didn’t use it, the tennis court/kick about area and mini golf seemed popular. Leisure facilities were good, no booking needed and towels provided. We ate in the Garden Restaurant one evening, it was the only restaurant open during our stay. There was a good choice and food was lovely and presented well. Children’s menu was a choice of 3 meals and the pasta was poor. The Hotel itself for the bar and dining area is clean and modern decor. Reception was ok but whilst having an afternoon drink we could hear the team discussing check in issues and other work matters. There was also a staff member present frequently on the guest side of the desk not wearing a face covering or wearing an exemption lanyard. We were not asked on check out how our stay was. Location is good, 4 miles from Aberfoyle Village which has a fantastic Butcher/Deli. The Hotel is a good base for walking, cycling, outdoor activities, Go Ape is nearby and Blairdrummond was a short drive, we were also in Glasgow within the hour.

We had a booking for w/c 25 Oct which was made in May. Had a voicemail to state our booking had been cancelled due to ‘a hotel closure’. Called their customer service team who knew nothing about it - requested a call back which never happened. Emailed the hotel who offered no explanation. The website is showing availability for this week so perhaps they have decided to increase the price of the rooms at our expense? Will ensure we avoid Macdonals hotels in the future.

I had a lovely stay at Forest Hills Resort. I must admit that after booking and then reading the reviews on here I doubted whether I’d made the right choice. Upon arrival check in was a little slow as there was only one person on reception but once seen to I was swiftly checked in and directed to my accommodation. I stayed in a self-catering apartment alongside the hotel and was given directions on how to get in… but I couldn’t find it so had to go and ask, a member of staff then came out and pointed me in the right direction (if you’re in Ben Lomond 11 or 11A you have to walk through the service yard to get in). The apartment was comfortable, clean and had a lovely view of the grounds and onto the Loch. The decor was a little dated but it wasn’t too bad. Apartment was well equipped with essential for self-catering. On a night I heard little to no noise whatsoever. As I was self-catering I only ate in the hotel’s garden restaurant on one evening. This was slightly on the pricey side with all mains costing £15 upwards, however the food and atmosphere was nice. Staff were very attentive, however, I felt rushed when the bill was put on my table before asking for it. You do have to book in for dinner here earlier in the day, I booked about 3pm for that night and there was still availability. There’s a spa / pool / gym on site but I didn’t use these facilities so cannot comment. This is a good base for walking / cycling etc. and not too far from Stirling. I would stay here again.

I have just returned from an overnight stay 3-4 October. I was apprehensive about the hotel from the recent reviews on this site but I was pleasantly surprised. Positives: - Location, location, location – the scenery is just fantastic. Lots of good walks near-by to explore the countryside. - Service from the staff – from reception, bar, restaurant and spa. All really friendly and helpful. - Our room was also great – it had a lovely balcony overlooking the loch. The room was clean, elemis toiletries in bathroom and comfortable bed. - Food in the restaurant was really good. We had the tempura fish & chips and steak which was cooked really well. Breakfast was good as well. You just need to pre-book times at reception at check-in. - Drinks at the bar were good as well – nicely served and reasonably priced. - Spa was great – pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were clean and operational. - Plenty of hand sanitiser available and people observing covid rules. Areas for improvement I think the team are doing a good job in challenging circumstances as they grapple with the post-covid landscape. A couple of things which would have improved our overall experience; - Similar to other reviews, I struggled to get in touch with the hotel on phone or via email to book treatments in advance of stay. I ended up calling the central team 4-5 times over course of a month trying to do this. Staff shortages and/ or poorly maintained systems made this a painful experience. It also resulted in very limited treatment times 4 hours after check-out. - Locker room in the leisure centre wasn’t that secure – the locks intermittently worked and despite ours working initially, we returned to our locker being unlocked and open. Luckily noting was missing. - We weren’t able to leave gratuity on our card at dinner (only cash). This feels like a missed opportunity for the staff to get tips from the guests as most people don’t carry cash anymore. Overall a good stay!

Large spacious room that was extremely comfortable and very clean. Food in the Garden Restaurant is excellent. We so enjoyed the delicious food, great service and lovely views. The head waiter works really hard and has a lovely manner. We had a great stay and will be returning soon.
