After a long and winding drive up towards the top of the Coromandel we came across this haven...in the middle of nowhere. The place is lovely although isolated and all we wanted was a coffee, but a very helpful staff member talked to us about the place, how it came to be, the owners interest in keeping the wilderness for... Our friends recently got married and had their reception at Tangiaro, after getting married down on the beach. It was a beautiful, relaxed and fun setting and the food was great! We arrived late Friday night and found the facilities to be very clean and modern. Everything that we needed was supplied in the cabins making it easy to prepare... More

We came here for dinner one night around New Year's Eve, when the Coromandel was flooded with rain. The road to get there is winding and on gravel or clay; so plan to take your time getting there. First of all, I'm glad that this place exists, so I don't want to trash it as a matter of course. I... More

This was an amazing place to stay on honeymoon. Very clean and modern log cabins which were very well equipped with robes/slippers/full kitchen and laundry facilities/spa bath/comfy bed. Had lovely outdoor private spas in the bush which we could use at night. Heard kiwis calling. Lovely walk on property and beach 5 min drive away. Opens up late in mornings... More

Recently attended a Wedding at this awesome spot. The grounds & the cabins were so nice, and it was great having all the friends and family stay together. Perfect for this type of thing. Quite informal & laid back if that's what you like. The Staff seemed friendly (maybe not enough staff but it was a busy time) and the... More

Love tangiaro and pop in for snacks everytime we are up that way but our last visit put us off .. Attended a friends wedding on the weekend and was very disappointed, all the beautiful local artwork has gone and it looks like an old lady vomited her hoarded treasures around the building .. Has ugly death trap rugs floor... More

After 3 weeks touring NZ our final destination was at at the Tangiaro Kiwi Retreat. It is quite a drive to get there via windy roads (which our 3 kids just about dealt with), but the nature is amazing. We arrived in NYE and arrived into our spacious one bedroom chalet (number 4). In the living room was a double... More

The only con would be the gravel road to the retreat. The rest is all good. The spa was very relaxing and the lodges themselves had everything needed. We only had one dinner at the place but it was nice as well. Reception does answer calls pretty late in the morning so a thing to be cautious about. Staff was... More

We called in on the off chance when we saw the sign at the gate and hoped to get a coffee but were very pleasantly surprised to realise it was a restaurant and we were in time for lunch. We had a friendly welcome from a fellow Brit and took a table in the covered area outside looking over the... More

“A lot of mosquitoes once the sun goes down so pack plenty of repellant as your sleep might be disturbed. Also an electric fan as it was very hot and close when we were there. Make sure you fill the car and take anything you might need with you as Port Charles has nothing at all that you can buy including fuel and it's miles from Coromandel Town or Collvile.”
