Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You always have to start with the positive.
The view is fantastic.
This hotel is located on the outskirts of the city, a city that you yourself do not have the wildness to offer.
Preserved, the city is pleasant now anyway.
The hotel is of an older date, this is clearly seen in the rooms, which bear the impression that the interior designer must have stopped at the hotel in the 90s.
The rooms are large with plenty of space.
We had a kitchen, sofa group, armchair and everything.
Wifi that works perfectly.
And again a view that was fantastic.

Only final cleaning is included in the stay.
If you need new towels, they are handed out at the reception.

The beds…… for me was not the best experience, let's just leave it at that.

The food.
There was a breakfast and dinner buffet during our stay.

The breakfast was classic.
Fine selection of bread, cheese, yoghurt, fruit etc.
Coffee at the table etc.
Special coffee can be ordered for a fee.

Dinner…..
Look here it gets a little different….
We move in the German country kitchen.
Which is fine.
We are talking about a buffet consisting of stews,
Fish, potatoes, gravy, rice, cooked vegetables etc.
In general, the food was fine, but we often experienced that it had the same temperature as day-old coffee.
This was despite it being in warming cabinets 🤔
It seemed a bit like the chef lost his spark when the interior designer quit.
The desserts, which were expected to be cold, unfortunately had not seen the shadow of cold either since the raw materials had been taken out of the fridge before the chef "conjured"

We end once again in the positive corner.
The staff were friendly.
However, some of the older staff still seemed sad about the loss of the interior designer.
Their German was perfect, some knew a little English.
The young employees were smiling and helpful.

Can this place be recommended????
Yes, this place had lots of guests, that must mean it can do something.
It just didn't really work for us….
Good holiday..

Room Tip: Bestil ikke aftensmad/buffet med i opholdet. Spis ude i stedet. Brug det som base i jeres ophold.

Extermely nice place, very friendly staff and very good room, actually more like small apartmenst, ours had livingroom with kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The scenery is stunning. Only minus is that you should not expect to be able to dine at the hotel. The restaurant is heavily booked and you must reserve a table in VERY good time. We only stayed there 3 days and we didn't manage to get in. Breakfast was fine though.

It's a really nice place, but not without its pitfalls. I have stayed here twice in 2019, once in June and again in September. You simply cannot beat the location, the hills, the trees and just how quiet it is assuming the other guests behave accordingly. The front desk staff were always friendly and whilst there was bit of language barrier we got by well enough. Ample parking but it gets busy on a Friday and Saturday night due to the restaurant so this can swamp the spaces outside. Why do they not prioritise paying guests?

Pet friendly which was great as we could bring our dog and with the rural location meant for great walking distances. The distant sound of the local steam locomotive added to the atmosphere of this central Deutschland location, which when overlooking the view we had from our room was quite frankly, magical.

There are some oddities about the place, each apartment has a cooker but no grill and no oven, this I must admit got my back up, as it was clearly a money saving technique as well as forced persuasion to use their own restaurant, which quite frankly is a rip off at €20 each just for breakfast, which includes then getting the beds made up, which I felt was a cheeky idea, especially when you're already paying enough to simply be there. On the note of cheekiness I had a bad experience in the restaurant on my first hour of being there in June.

My partner informed the staff I was Vegan, which they said wasn't a problem but when we went down for lunch it was quite a different story. The waitress seemed to notion that this was a big inconvenience, come on now, you have guests from all walks of German life here, they ALL have to be catered for, so I ordered a Jacket Potato with mushrooms and a side salad, which I categorically stated to have no cream based dressing, otherwise I fall very ill. When it came out all seemed well until I noticed the chef had hidden a yoghurt based dressing underneath the salad, when all other guests had theirs on top.

This was in my opinion a deliberate micky take and sabotage, I had thankfully only had one mouthful but almost immediately my stomach started to churn. They took it back and returned with just a simple side salad, the potato and mushrooms were gone. At this stage I realised they were simply mucking me about and I was not remotely impressed, how dare you! You can actually kill people with stupidity of this behaviour! So, that was the last time I ever used the restaurant and besides, Wernigerode have enough places offering Vegan options, or else we resigned to eating in our room. But needless to say I've never forgotten that incident.

Overall it is a well run place, friendly staff but with no oven or grill in the room plus an arrogant clown of a chef running the restaurant with guests who are in a restrictive diet there is most certainly room for improvement here, including the need for better WiFi.

Great place, has wifi at the reception, and very friendly staff, who will help at all times. Nice and calm area, great to walk. There is a steamtrain station nearby but ticket prices are skyhigh. The food was some of the best i have ever eaten.

The person at reception was plane rude... We booked a ground floor apartment as my mum doesn't walk well, we got the key and were on the top floor. Next thing is we only had linen for two while we booked for three. When we asked the wifi code we got yelled at. The wifi only works at reception and in the car park, no where else. If you are considering sleeping on the sofa bed DON'T! You can feel every bit of the timber frame underneath and the three sections that it folds out in. I felt bruised and battered after sleeping on it. The normal beds are not much better. The fit out of the apartment is poor, the terrace had two chairs while we were with three, no table. The selection of glasses and crockery is poor. The apartment was dated and the carpet very dirty. There was a smell that indicated that the apartment had been smoked in, even though it is no smoking now. The only positive is that the apartments are in a nice location.

Very unfriendly East German receptionist with no desire to help. WiFi only at the reception. We stayed 7 days and our towels and linen were never changed. No dvd player. Limited car parking. No access to washing machines especially for children's clothes. Be careful when booking as you may find that you have no bed linen, this is extra as well as the breakfast. The breakfast is the best part of this ex Stazi camp.
First and last time for this hotel.....

Adequate would be a better rating. Very old and looks very unkempt in places. The location is great and very quiet. Apartments are spacious but, as I said, old. Some have mold. Something has to be done about that
