We visited here with a tour group. The observation deck a the top of the hotel is worth a visit for the view. We went to the lower restaurant which was cafeteria-style and it was interesting to be able to pour your own beer. One level up from the cafe we were treated to coffee and cake and had the option of apple or chocolate. The walk up was arduous especially for my husband who uses a cane.
We saw younger people almost getting blown off their feet together with strollers, etc. We were barely able to make it up but had spotted a branded hotel van so went to reception to inquire about the possibility of paying for transport for my husband to get back down to the station and was told no it was not possible. The van literally pulled up outside the hotel empty twice and then went down to the station empty. Surely they could have helped us.
I realise most places in Germany are very black and white and clear-cut about rules and policies, but there's a human element here that we feel is being ignored. When you see paying guests and patrons struggling and falling over, shouldn't someone be kind enough to consider what can be done to help?
Due to the strength of the winds that day only 1 in our group made it over to the museum and it was such a task getting down the hill in a most stressful experience just trying to stay vertical.
Please consider instituting a shuttle service to and from the station on very windy or bad weather days, especially for elderly or disabled persons. Even for €3.50 a person, this would be a much-welcomed service. Maybe more people would think about returning as hotel guests. We would have loved to stay had circumstances and service been different.

Positive: Definitely the location, friendly staff, large, clean room on the 6th floor (unfortunately no view due to bad weather) Negative: Due to the exposed location, the windows cannot be opened. The air conditioning is centrally controlled (at least we didn't find anything). It was too warm at night. Breakfast was served in the Goethe Hall. Uncomfortable due to the lack of room dividers. We had dinner in the tower restaurant "Hexenklause". The menu was not to our taste, but due to the lack of competition (all catering is firmly in the hands of the Brockenwirt) we had no choice. Due to the lack of a kitchen, nothing was freshly cooked or fried. The prepared dishes (ready-made/buffet quality, such as mushy spaetzle, broccoli with more stalks than florets, game goulash with a soggy wild mushroom sauce ...) were delivered (from the tourist hall? in warming bowls?) and then served in the restaurant. That was very disappointing. We had expected more.

This is another world. Looks like it was the military canteen when the Brocken was out of bounds to all but the military. Self-service with not much on the menu except Wurst and chips. Well you have to go for the Currywurst, don't you? Or chicken. Plenty of beer. The sort of place which adds to life's experiences but doesn't need a re-run. We didn't stay in the hotel.

Booked an overnight stay here on the Brocken in conjunction with an overnight stay at the Brockenscheideck in Schierke. We were able to move into the room before 2 p.m. The room and bathroom were pleasantly large and spacious. It's logical that the windows don't open, considering that there can be strong hurricane gusts up here! The air conditioning obviously takes some getting used to, but it was well set. We were treated in a friendly and courteous manner at reception and in the service. The breakfast was sufficient and good - there was nothing missing, including a great view! The evening meal in the restaurant was good, also in terms of value for money. A small but nice plus point: the daily sunrise and sunset times are clearly displayed. This way you can have this experience when the visibility is good. Thank you - we'll be happy to come back!

Unfortunately very bad experience. Had a voucher for 169 euros that was issued in November 2020, in the middle of Covid time. We wanted to redeem it now, but only got the answer: 3 years validity, so the voucher has expired. There was no response whatsoever; we suggested accepting cheaper accommodation in the building next door, which was rigorously rejected. Contact with the hotel management could not be made, every phone call was immediately blocked by the ladies on the phone with the statement: the boss had given the order not to redeem vouchers after the 3-year legal period had expired. Nobody responded to the reference to the lockdown at the time. It's a shame...... We would have been willing to accommodate, be it an offer to pay 50% of the price ourselves or something else, but apparently the hotel doesn't feel the need to treat potential guests politely and accommodatingly. We have never experienced behavior like this before, even though we travel frequently and are therefore familiar with different situations. Maybe we can reach the hotel management this way.........

The hotel is great after a long hike on the Brocken. Nothing is missing. The room and bathroom were clean, the bed comfortable and the view from the room (6th floor) was excellent. The food tasted good and we didn't have to wait long. There isn't a huge selection of dishes, but the dishes on offer are not everyday, such as chips, schnitzel, etc. We had sauerbraten with potatoes and venison goulash with spaetzle. The portions were very large and reasonable for the price. The dessert (chocolate tart with liquid chocolate center and vanilla sauce) was simply delicious. The breakfast buffet had everything you could want. The coffee was even served at the table. For us as hikers, the hotel was just top notch and nothing was missing.
The staff was very friendly!
I can't understand a lot of the negative comments and anyone expecting wellness and luxury is definitely in the wrong place on the Brocken. It's all about experiencing nature!

I stopped here for a night on top of the mountain. I got the train up one day from Wernigerode, and the next day I took the first steam train back down and connected all the way along to Quedlinburg.
I had a nice afternoon at the hotel, enjoying a walk around, the nearby visitor centre and the observation tower (go up the observation tower both by daytime and again at night for a completely different view.
The staff I encountered were pleasant - and I enjoyed both a good dinner (several vegetarian options) and breakfast in the hotel.
My room was in the adjacent building, but was still good - the room was warm and comfortable and I had a lovely sleep. The furnishing was basic but along the lines of what I was expecting considering the hotel is on top of a mountain. It was all very clean.
I would stay here again, it was a lovely way to break up a journey on the Harz Railway.

We slept on the Brocken again. The climb was from the Eckertal. Rooms 301 and 302 were great. I really enjoyed the food in the Hexenklause - it was well seasoned. The waitress was very friendly and quick. In the morning we had a good, tasty breakfast and set off for WR well fortified. And the weather was great too!

Unusual place for a hotel , but on a summers day views are great if the weather is clear , not much to do except walking and hiking , which is what people come here for . Lots of people walk their dogs , hotel is clean and perfectly suitable , there is a restaurant and a bar , for hiking map would be essential and good foot ware .

Stayed one night while on the Harzer Hexen Stieg. Arrived cold and wet after 3.30pm and were met with a very officious and impatient receptionist unfortunately, who was in a hurry to leave (reception closes at 4pm) and couldn't be bothered taking the time with three non-German speaking and one semi-fluent walker. However, this was the worst part of our stay (unfortunate it was the first impression) as the rest was great. The third floor room was spacious and clean with an amazing view when the ever-present clouds and mist weren't blanking everything out. We got a good hour or two of blue sky and sunshine after arriving before it closed in so were able to experience the true beauty of this wild location - even seeing a wild fox up close whilst walking around the mountain top. Dinner in the restaurant was nice with good service, and breakfast was plentiful and tasty, as were the packed lunches. The Brocken history museum is extremely interesting and well worth a visit. Although not the most luxurious place we stayed on this walk, the Brocken Hotel was certainly the most memorable and interesting. A must.
