Lakes Edge Holiday Park and Lakes Edge Lodge are a blend of comfort and charm, offering rooms that are well-equipped, though some guests find them a bit cramped or aged. While the atmosphere is generally appreciated for its outdoor relaxation and views, the presence of thin walls sometimes disturbs the peace. The hotel's value is questioned by those who feel prices are steep relative to amenities and maintenance. Despite satisfactory amenities and remarkable cleanliness, the hotel faces criticisms for crowded facilities and occasional untidiness in communal spaces. The location earns praise for its scenic lake proximity, and the staff's service is recognized for its helpfulness, contributing to a family-friendly experience.

Stayed for 2 nights in May 2023

We arrived past the reception opening night due to our ferry ride form north island and we called reception just in case of our late arrival time and they were very accommodating and said they'll leave our check-in details in a box just outside the reception office. Our stay was for a campervan spot.

Located not too far from the nearest shower block, we were away from majority of the campers (as we selected an electronic charging spot) and had quite a view which was nice. Laundry and kitchen facilities were a little further away. Laundry takes $2 coins and all facilities provided on site were very clean and new. Most campervan spots are along the hill on a terrace which overlooks the lake.

Location of the holiday park was on the same road as the Tekapo Springs and a short walk to the lake's edge.

YES YES YES AND YES. AMAZING experience, it was right next to the hot pools and that was amazing as you could just walk to it. The room was cute and had a bunk bed next to a double/queen bed (idk which one) you could sit outside and relax while eating your dinner or lunch. for the adults go to the hot pools because they have an adult only pool as well so you can relax from your kids (if you have kids) and there is even a pool for kids under 8 and one that I think teenagers would enjoy which is half 1.3m and other half is 1.8. PLEASE GO HERE!!!!

YES YES YES AND YES—we LOVE this review! 🎉 We're so glad you had an amazing time and took full advantage of the hot pools (especially the adults-only one—because let’s be honest, sometimes you just need a break! 😆). Sounds like you mastered the art of relaxing, dining al fresco, and making the most of the pools—10/10 holiday skills! Thanks for the glowing recommendation! We'll have a spot ready for you whenever you're ready for round two. Cheers Lydia

We stayed for 2 nights. On the first night we booked a shingles power site because the sealed power site was full. It was further from the main facilities area and only had 3 individual unisex toilets and showers to support a relatively large area which was insufficient when fully booked. There was a queue in the morning to use the facilities.
On day 2 when we shifted to the sealed power site (only a few dollars more expensive but totally worth it), it assigned lot was a lot closer to the main facility building which housed males and female toilets and shower cubicles (more stalls and came with 2 hairdryers), a kitchen and laundry room and outdoor BBQ area). It was alot more pleasant.
Both sites had a splendid view of Lake Tekapo. The ducks were tame and hovered near the The campervans for food and the wild rabbits would come out to play. On a beautiful day, it was very therapeutic to just sit outside or can and enjoy the view. Best of all, there was unlimited wifi.

This was my favourite spot on our South Island caravanning adventure.

We had a lakeside spot so could literally walk from our door to the water + enjoy the other surrounding activities in walking distance (ie biking around the lake, paddle boarding, kayaking, stunning hot pools which were expensive and provided breathtaking views + high end ammenities like Dyson dryers and tog dryers in the changing rooms!).

Great kitchen set up with outside bbqs overlooking the lake - heaps of detergent and towels/ rags available.

Laundry was exceptional - lots of machines + you could use eftpos / credit card to pay for which is the only site I haven’t had to carry copious amounts of coins around with me to wash my family’s washing!

Children loved the tramps and riding around on their bikes.

Friendly staff.

Only criticism is the hair dryers in the women’s bathroom were had it and were basically unusable. Had to push so hard down on the on button and then only worked sporadically. Everyone struggled with these so they should be replaced for such a lovely location.

Hi Abby Thank you so much for your detailed review - and great photo's too! Sounds like you and the family had a great stay and an activity filled few days! We have just upgraded our laundry because we agree - who carries around loads of coins nowadays?! We will check the hairdryers in the bathrooms - thank you for letting us know. Hopefully see you back here again! Cheers Lydia

We travelled in the South Island for 2 weeks. We had an unpowered tent site here for just 2 nights. The 'sites' were flat & clearly numbered and marked out, which made it easy. This holiday park was, by far, our favourite as the facilities were excellent. Good size communal kitchen and bathroom, enough room for all. There was also a large separate TV/dining room which had many sockets to charge our devices.

If you are camping & using the communal kitchen you need to have all your own equipment, ie pots, pans, plates, cups, utensils etc. (We borrowed a frying pan & pot from the friendly reception desk, as we had everything else). The Kitchen has a convenient hot-water urn for boiling water, toasters, microwave, stove-tops, tea towels, and dish-wash liquid & huge communal fridges & a freezer.

The camp is on a hill, so there were lots of places to sit & enjoy the lake. This was the best part, just relaxing and eating dinner sitting at the bbq tables and enjoying the view.

This newish site has amazing lake and mountain views. The reception manager (Zoe) was very very efficient, welcoming and friendly check in. Easy walking distance to the village centre
Kitchen is small and shower hot water timer gives a very limited time. The cold spurts warning hot water is finishing is overly complex and short, so lets the place down. We get the need to restrict hot water costs, but we've stayed at many sites and this definitely overly complex and compares poorly

Stayed one night in Nov 2023 with 6 birth camper on unsealed powered site.
A tad worried on arrival as it was like a Grand Prix pit stop with about 7 campers all arriving in convoy and stopping at reception. However, we needn't have worried, check in was swift with excellent instructions. We were situated right at the far end on the top level over looking the lake. Really nice.
Worth noting: There is NO 4/5G coverage here and the WiFi is poor. We didn't bother in the end but be prepared that if you have any work / planning / contacting to do? Do it before you arrive.
Facilities all very nice and clean and it's 30 seconds walk to the lakeside which is really nice. You could walk into town but we chose to eat in the camper that night and drive in the next morning where we found numerous cafe's, shops and of course the famous "Church of the good shepherd". We also borrowed a DVD from receptions which was free and returned the following morning.
We were there just as the Lupins were coming out but I can imagine it is stunning when they are all in bloom.
Price wise it's in line with all the others. It is a big site but only one Dump Station we could find and there was a queue in the morning so if you see it clear, do the business then while it's quiet.
There are numerous Rabbits to watch chasing each other around and we made a new friend in a Mallard Duck who then brought his mates back.
Over all a lovely location and we would recommend.

Firstly, I should say that I found it very confusing finding the place as it’s called Lakes Edge Holiday Park but I am at Lakes Edge Lodge Backpackers. This is a big site that has lots of different accommodation. Maybe the branding needs tightening up a bit when searching on Google to save confusion.

That minor thing aside, I am well impressed by this backpackers accommodation. I stayed in a backpackers in the centre of the village the night before and it was nowhere near as organised and comfortable as here. This place is also only $2 more.

This place is like a well oiled machine. Everything is clean, well laid out and easy to use.

There is a good sized clean kitchen with everything you need, a very comfortable lounge area with phone charging outlets, and the Wi-Fi actually works here! The Wi-Fi isn’t blinding fast but it was non existent at the last place!

The bunk beds are comfortable and the sheets clean and crisp. The bunk beds are a little short for me at 6’3” but I was just about able to sleep diagonally reasonably comfortably. A shame about the loud snoring last night, but obviously not the fault of the accommodation.

The showers and toilets are separate, again, unlike the last place. The shower cubicles are great as you can keep your clothes and bag secure and dry whilst you have a shower. The water was lovely and hot. Everything here always looks clean, so a credit to the cleaning team.

I think it’s really great value for money for what you get. They clearly know exactly what they are doing and are doing it very well. Well worth a stay when on a budget and right next to the lake too, what more could you ask for?!

We had a powered site and because we have a wee dog, we’re placed up top away from main camp. All fine. Amenities were fine also. Wifi totally useless biggest gripe would be awful muddy sites virtually no gravel and we were constantly stepping onto mud. This could do easily be remedied. We paid $126 for two nights bQuite excessive considering what we paid in Queenstown at a new campground.

Hi Linda Thank you for your review and feedback. I do sincerely apologise for the sites up in the dog freindly area. Due to an extremely dry summer and then some heavy rainfall, they did become very muddy. I hope you still enjoyed your time in Tekapo and hope you may return someday after we have made some planned improvements. Cheers Lydia

Very well-equipped powered site for campervan, common facilities like kitchen and toilets are within 100m distance. Kitchen is well equipped with hot water dispenser too, saves the trouble to boil water. You even get to see a few ducks roaming around the camp site.
