We called in for a one night stay with a car rally. We enjoyed some fantastic country hospitality and a awesome meal. The hosts Vicki and Richard went out of their way to look after us. The facilities where comfortable and clean. If you want to take a drive along the forgotten highway, make the stop here.

When on explorations east of New Plymouth, I sometimes find myself eating at the Whangamomona Hotel. The food is good quality and well prepared. On this particular occasion, I got into the village at 8:30pm and went in to the hotel to see if the kitchen was open. It wasn't. But the staff called the boss over, and he said...

We only stopped here for lunch on our drive along the Forgotten World Highway. Our Shearer's Platter for two was very good. However the hospitality was second to none. It was a busy lunchtime, but our hosts had time for everyone. Old fashioned customer service. Thank you.

Only there for coffee before our wonderful rail line adventure. Pub obviously done a deal with our tour people so our voucher got us half a cup of weak instant coffee and an abrupt talking to. Would not drive 80 kms from civilisation again to be treated like that.

We were a group of twenty oldies and stayed at this lovely hotel after doing the Forgotten Highway rail cart tour. The hosts were so lovely and couldn't do enough for us. Although the rooms are small, and toilet and shower facilities have to be shared there was enough to cater for us all. Excellent meal at night and great...

This a pub, far from civilisation, with its own colour and special features. Much of the town has been lovingly restored and the hotel is no exception. I wanted a single, but twin is the minimum. My room had no TV, no wifi, and no mobile coverage. My only entertainment was what I could make with the others in the...

In the middle of virtually nowhere travelling The Forgotten Highway between Stratford and Tongariro there's Whangamomoana. It's a small village ( was at one time a town) of just 16 inhabitants near the old railway line. There are a few old buildings with their history displayed on information boards, included in these is the Whangamomoana Hotel. Every 2 years this...

Passing through the Republic of Whangamomona we just had to stop at the hotel for a coffee. We ordered our drink from the friendly bar staff, then wandered around inside looking at all the maps, plans and photographs. As the bar is also the passport office, yes, that's right, we had our passports stamped too! The food looked good, but...

On our 3rd visit here, we arrived at 9 am to find that it didn't open till 10. Knew the side door would be open as we stayed in the hotel last year but a very grumpy man would not even let my wife use the loo! Not great hospitality and nothing like the ladies we met there during our...

A long drive from Taumaranui and was so glad to see the pub for a stop. A miserable rainy day and a drive that required lots of concentration with lots of slips. Such a lovely warm welcome. A really awesome pub and atmosphere and quite possibly the best ham off the bone and cheese toasted sammie ever! Keen to visit...
