Having stayed here quite a few years ago and experienced a lovely time we decided at short notice to have a night here.

For the money you pay, there are certainly better options available not too far away.

The hotel is looking old and tired inside and more specifically the leisure complex. The pool area is dirty looking with rusty fixtures and fittings, broken grating around the indoor jacuzzi, lights not working in the steam room and the outdoor jacuzzi (which is one of the reasons we booked) not working at all, which was disappointing.
The changing rooms were very messy with used towels and slippers left all over floor and benches and many of the lockers not working and looked to have been busted open.

The bistro bar had several tables with dishes left on them and just 2 young lads trying to look after the bar and guests down there, meaning a long wait to be served.

Our room, although we had requested a classic double, was tiny. I hate to think how small the “petit doubles” would be if ours was a classic!
The hot water in the rooms get to the point of scalding hot and would be a danger to someone who may not notice the small warning sign. It was impossible to wash ur hands in warm water without having to first fill the sink with a mix of hot and cold. Surely the hot water supply could be better regulated to reduce the temperature a bit!?
A positive note for the room was the selection of teas, coffees and snacks was good. Nice to see a jar of “proper coffee” and the cafetière as an option.

At breakfast, the jugs of juice and water were sitting out with no ice etc in them, so allowed to warm to a room temperature and even when replenished, wasn’t particularly cold.
When I asked if there was more muesli or granola, I was informed they had run out!! This left me with the option of the tasteless gluten free cardboard muesli from the packet. Poor stock control on what would be a popular breakfast item.
On the plus side, the rest of the cooked breakfast, coffee and toast was all very tasty and good quality.

The staff were generally all very friendly and helpful when required.

With a bit of investment and tidying up of the place, this could be a fantastic place to stay with the setting it is in, however right now, my opinion would be it is a 3*+ at best and overpriced for what you can get elsewhere in the area.

The experience begins when you drive up to the hotel where you are treated to picturesque forest views of the Scottish Countryside. There is a large car park suitably located for guests which you don't have to walk more than a few footsteps before being inside. On arrival, there is a friendly greeting from reception which is continued through all the staff at the hotel. At the moment, you are asked to complete an arrival form, and your temperature is taken, I am glad that a hotel is dedicated to keeping its guests and colleagues safe.

I stayed in Room 106, which is on the Ground Floor and is a short walk from both the restaurant, spa and reception. The room was spacious, well presented with a lovely mattress and spotless bathroom. Tea, Coffee and Water were available in the room. The bathroom is very niche and had a bath as well as a shower (with two settings). Ample toiletries are provided as well as towels. The pillows were of excellent quality. The heating is straightforward to use and heats the room quickly.

The restaurant was always bustling, and there are a lovely couple of bars within the hotel also, The Clubroom has two large fires which generally give a homely feeling especially as Scotland is getting closer to winter and the Stockmans bar downstairs is less formal dining, whilst I was travelling solo, it would be great for families with younger children. The Green Lady Restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing. The staff are all assets to the hotel and cannot do enough to help you regardless of your request.

I did not have a chance to use the spa facilities; however, at a glance, they looked very fresh and clean.

The hotel is suited for all different types of people, and I would highly recommend it. I will hope to return soon!

Entering through the grand doors (having sanitized our hands fully beforehand) we climbed the stairs to be greeted by some lovely staff in the reception. They quickly took our temperatures, checked us in and gave us directions to our room. It was incredible. With a bed the size of a football pitch and a mirror that doubled as a smart TV, our jaws could barely drop any further when we entered the bathroom to encounter the centrepiece of the room: a lavish copper bath (with another hidden TV for relaxed viewing). Dinner in the restaurant did not disappoint especially thanks to a delectable baked camembert for the starter. We were sad to leave after only one night, but do hope that plenty more people will have the fabulous experience that we did.

For those concerned with COVID, all the staff were very on it with the new measures. There were hand sanitizer stations strategically placed throughout the premises and even the pens were disinfected before and after we signed the forms for the contactless checkout. The temperatures of all the guests were also taken upon arrival and we were very reassured by what can only be described as a germ-extermination-bazooka that was displayed in pride of place in the atrium. Looking like some kind of space weapon out of a sci-fi film, the plaque next to the device explained that it was used to mist rooms between guests in order to fully disinfect the spaces. On top of that, it is used to frequently disinfect/mist the entire premises.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay!

My first visit to Thainstone was for a family dinner to celebrate our anniversary, followed by an overnight stay. From our arrival in the pouring rain to my very early departure for the airport the service was faultless. I enjoyed scallops and an excellent steak, followed by a bread-and-butter pudding that I can heartily recommend. We fully enjoyed the atmosphere and music in the games room. The hotel room was spotless, the bed supremely comfortable and the shower good. When leaving the hotel at 4am I was presented with sandwiches for the journey by the jovial night porter, who was also busy sanitising surfaces. The COVID measures are not at all intrusive, yet the issue is taken seriously and clearly much thought and effort goes into the realisation of a safe environment for all. Suffice to say we will be back - and next time we will stay long enough to enjoy breakfast!

For the first time in 5 months my family and I went out to eat, partly for previous missed celebrations and partly for current and expected good news.

The 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 children (aged 6 and 4), had afternoon tea. Because it was a Monday and during Covid-19 restrictions it was quiet but still well staffed and standards high.

Having forewarned them at the time of booking of a tree nut allergy and a vegetarian request (difficult customers I know!) they were well prepared and knowledgeable of our requirements.

We had hoped to sit outside as the weather was supposed to be sunny but on arrival it wasn't so warm and the staff kindly offered us the Music Room to sit in so we were isolated and didn't have to worry about distancing etc. However having seen into the main rooms there is more than adequate space anyway for distancing anyway.

The food as always was excellent and fresh with plenty of coffee for us and choice of drinks for the kids. Despite being cosy in a room to ourselves the staff (one member only to reduce exposure) was present enough to cover for extra requests.

And the cherry on the top was the unexpected discount of £10 due to the government scheme for eating out on a Monday-Wednesday!

We couldn't recommend it enough for lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, especially in these times if you are uncertain of eating out.

Thanks again for a lovely afternoon.

Did a 2 night stay here the day after it reopened with its precautions for Covid-19 and oh what a joy it was. The staff are absolutely brilliant, warm welcoming and super friendly. William the GM was on call throughout our stay helping to serve dinner, breakfast and even spotted fastidiously cleaning all the surfaces. There are plenty of hand sanitisers and all the staff wear masks (though we did feel sorry for them as they're obviously uncomfortable); the general feeling you have is it's perfectly safe.

The food is fresh, innovative and well cooked. The breakfast in particular is superb with so many choices that we've never seen anywhere before. An absolute triumph for the chef who designed the menu.

If you want to get away and experience a little normality from all the current Covid-19 gloom, then this is the place to come. You will not be disappointed.

One of the best hotels we stayed in. The hotel has its charm and it has a feeling of antique but not old. Looks like the hotel just been painted. As you enter you are treated to the smell from the fire from the bar, which adds a nice feeling to the whole experience. We sat one afternoon by the fire and just enjoyed its warm, Barry made sure to keep the fire on. We could not find any fault in the hotel. Even pre-arrival the staff was helpful, Sam at the spa was more than happy to answer all my question and eased my mind about actually going ahead with the booking. On arrival we were greeted by the GM William Inglis and the receptionist Matthew. They were both friendly, made us feel welcomed. We stayed in room 102 and it was spacious and the most comfy bed and pillows. When we mentioned it to the GM in the morning, he even gave us the name where they source the pillows. All staff went the extra mile. They even accomodated all of our request as it was our anniversary and we brought our own cake and nothing was too much for them. Barry in the restaurant took good care of us and when the next afternoon we wanted a wee bit of our cake he was more than happy to make sure we get few slices with our teas and coffees. Yvona from reception was helpful too and she was also friendly. Matthew answered all my questions even after me going back every five minutes lol. He was very patient and went extra mile and printed out some history of the hotel for us to read. The General Manager was always around from early morning to later, doing rounds at breakfast, serving, cleaning and same at dinner. He was just passing by when I was talking to the reception as I forgot to pack our toothbrushes. Silly me. He immediately offered to buy some and brought them in next morning. Now that is service. We had dinner on both nights. Food is amazing, we had mussels, scallops, venison and all were the best that we had. Meat just melted in the mouth, the flavors were perfect. The spa was well organized and it was nice to see only 6 people to be allowed in the pool area at the time. We had booked the outside hot tub and it was just the two of us in in the evening and it was relaxing. Thank you for the brilliant stay. We will definitely will be back.

I spent 2 nights here and booked around 4 days in advance. From start to end, there was a consistant luxury throughout. This was my first 'staycation' in quite a while and was little apprehensive due to the recent increase in lockdown measures but I felt as safe as possible given the circumstances.

I was staying in a deluxe king room with a dog. There wasn't a view or anything nice to look at from my windown but the room was pleastant with a good bath/shower. The bed was very comfortable. I booked with their current deal (I think it's 'Autumn 20%' or something like that) which meant dinner and breakfast were included with a bottle of prosecco on arrival. What I did not expect at all, was that the dinner (between 2) had a £30 limit per person on the menu AND also included 3 sides of your choice. Great value! As a solo traveller, I was still able to order the 3 sides for myself plus a main. Yeah, it sounds greedy, but it meant I could order the fillet steak (which was lovely) and have the chips etc included as the sides. Meals were provided in the ball room due to distancing and I was perfectly happy dining here as the tables were sufficiently distanced. For breakfast, you could basically get whatever you wanted. Not wanting any food waste, I was selective in the items for my fry-up which was all very good produce. I did over hear a few different people complaining to the manager about the menu selection but unless there are very specific dietary requirements, there is plenty to choose from! Drinks in the bar were lovely in such a beautiful room. You could charge to your room or pay direct. There are a couple of very nice indoor areas to sit and read/chat/drink. I didn't use the spa facilities so I can't comment. With regards to the 10pm ban on drinking in bars that is only recently in force, the bar does close but you can order drinks to your room without a service charge which is great if people wanted to take advantage of this!

The hotel is very dog friendly. There were at least 4 other guests with dogs, all well behaved. There is a long grassy area where dogs can go for their relief walks. This was my first time taking a dog to a hotel and it was a pleastant experience.

The professionalism and attention to detail with every member of staff I encountered was exceptional - very well mannered and happy to help.

There are a lot of hill/nature within a half hour drive. Beautiful surroundings all round.

My only slight issue was that part of my inclusive dinner was added to my room bill but this was swiftly rectified at checkout.

A top notch country-retreat experience. I don't often return to places I've visited but I'd certainly keep this place in mind for future travels.

We were at Thainstone house hotel last weekend and it made us remember why we loved the place the first time we visited. The staff were all fantastic and could not do enough to help. There was a big wedding on the Friday when we arrived and it was very busy, but it made no difference from the check in till the evening was finished it was all first class.. The spa area which had a few. problems the last time we were there around six weeks ago.have been rectified. The hot tub is working in all areas instead of the couple of seats the last time the hobbie hut outside sauna has also been sealed on top where all the heat was leaking out the last time. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent even though it was extremely busy weekend with an off site wedding on the Saturday also. The stars for us were reception under great pressure for the number of people but were so professional it was amazing in particular Sam absolutely Fantastic. I hope you are appreciative of such a wonderful team. Hopefully we will continue to have the pleasure to return as we have done on several occasions each year for the last five or six years. Well done to all. Best Regards

We had seen this hotel on various sites whilst looking to get away for a few nights. We booked 3 nights in a King room at over £400 total, which was slightly more than we would normally but the hotel looked worth it.
On checking in, there was a kid banging on a grand piano that we couldn't see from the reception but even the receptionist looked angry as he couldn't hear himself think let alone hear us speaking with masks on! Obviously this wasn't anyone's fault that worked at the hotel.
We went up to our room and instantly felt that it wasn't up to any standard let alone 4 star. The walls were damaged where a small arm chair was sat in the corner. The liklihood is this is caused by staff moving it rather than someone sitting on it. There was dust on surfaces and the materials felt dirty. We called reception and were provided a key to another room. The other room was just as bad with the added feature of mould on the bathroom ceiling.
After going down to reception, the gentleman who checked us in explained there were no other rooms available due to high number of bookings. We kindly asked for a refund and went on our way. This was highly frustrating as we were now in an area of no particular interest but it was now evening time and driving all the way back to Glasgow wasn't overly appealing. We ended up staying in a Premier Inn for £43 for the night, which was absolutely spotless! Clearly they take cleanliness during a pandemic a lot more seriously than a 4 star hotel! Expecting people to wear masks and sanitise yet can't clean a room just baffles me unfortunately.
We then booked into another hotel in Aberdeen for the remainder of our break away which did not disappoint.
