I spent my new year's holiday here. Overall it was a good experience Pros: * rooms were very clean * very friendly and helpful staff. Whatever I needed, I got it (borrow a hairdryer, call a cab,...) Cons: * faint scent of dampness, mould or somesuch * breakfast was mildly boring, could do with more choice

I have stayed in this hotel for one night with two of my friends because we wanted to visit the natural pools. The location of the hotel is great, it's just next to the natural pools, the bus station and the supermarket. We booked a three beds room, and the room had a double bed and a small bed on the side. The small bed wad a pull out bed or something similar, very very uncomfortable. In the end all three of us slept in the double bed, because the small bed was too uncomfortable for sleeping. Make sure you confirm if the breakfast is included in the price of the room. In our booking it was written that the price includes a breakfast, but after we had the breakfast the staff insisted that we must pay for the meal. Eventually, the problem was resolved, but mostly due to our strong conviction that we should not pay.

This hotel is close to the pools so a very good location. The staff was friendly and the meals were good. The menu is a little limited but was tasty and filling. Breakfast was a little of a disappointment would have liked eggs and bacon but it still was good. The rooms are outdated but very clean. My only complaint was the smell of mold especially in the hallways. This is a old building and please do not get me wrong I would stay there again.

We visited for lunch whilst on a trip to Porto Moniz. The cooking was basic but very tasty. The soup was made with fresh vegetables and served with garlic bread. There was chicken, beef or scabbard fish and they all looked and tasted nice. Dessert was a custard tart and there was also water and red or white wine on the table.

On arrival our group were asked to wear bin liners on our boots before we had entered the reception. Not the best start and we would have preferred to have just been asked to remove our boots politely. Our boots were not muddy at all. Our room location faced out onto an abandoned building so no sea views for us. The staff appeared quite stressed in looking after us. The meal and quality of food in the restaurant was good and stunning views through the large windows.
