Very nice place in an excellent location (maybe a bit far from the beach, although walking distance). Great pool. Staff was nice and very helpful (special thanks to Natacha Pires!). Breakfast a bit scare and bed comfort has room for improvement.

We were not sure what to expect as we booked this with Azores Getaway at an amazingly reasonable rate (although off season) Atlantida Mar Hotel is a modern oceanfront hotel just outside of Praia da Vitoria, and close to the international airport. It is PERFECTLY located so that the town is close by, (10 minute walk along the seaside bike-walking path) but still has lots of easy free parking and is away from the congested streets of the main city of Angra do Heroísmo - however Angra is an quick 20 minute drive across the island on the Via Rapide highway. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean by a crew of dedicated cleaning staff that are washing floors and windows when not making up the rooms. The fantastic breakfast that is included with the rooms is overseen by the amazing Ana, who not only keeps the buffet super well stocked and the breakfast area clean, she is also a wealth of information about specials places to see on the island and gives tips on Portuguese pronunciation.! (She is without a doubt the hardest working woman on Terceira island) Leonardo in the kitchen will also make eggs etc to order if you ask... ALL the front desk staff (particularly Natacha) are terrific with tips and helpful information about restaurants and sights. (BUT please note, the flights in from Toronto and Boston that arrive at 6am put you at the hotel way before rooms are ready at 3pm, so be patient with the staff as they are doing all they can to turn rooms over, as they understand that EVERYONE has come in and want their rooms sooner, as they are very tired from travelling.!!!) I would not hesitate to highly recommend the Atlantida Mar Hotel to even the most fussy and demanding of travellers as it is a clean, well run hotel that makes you feel very much at home.!!

This was a great hotel. The staff were very accommodating. All areas were spotless. Our stay included a breakfast buffet which had lots of great choices. Our rooms faced out toward the Atlantic Ocean with amazing sunrises. It was really cool to sit on our private patio and watch ships come in and leave the harbour. The location was perfect for us and very easy to get to it. Driving anywhere on the island was very easy from this hotel. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is situated right on the water and it's an easy 1km walk from the centre of town, right by the ocean. We were in room 309 with a beautiful view of the harbour. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast buffet was well stocked. I liked the fact that they made small batches of everything, hence everything was fresh. The staff was excellent, especially Ana Sofia (thank you!), who was knowledgeable and very helpful in giving us recommendations on where to eat and some of the sites we should visit. As was Natasha at the front desk. Two items that could be improved are the Internet speed, and in our room a new set of pillows.

Hotel is dated and noisy. First there was the disco across the road blaring until 4 am in the morning. Then there was the wind rattling the terrace doors nexf to our headboard in hotel’s main suite. Bedroom smells old with excessive chemical use. English Tv channel's are inaudible as volume restricted at a maximum volume of 15 , and only advertising could be heard. Most of the Reception staff lacked a welcoming attitude. An unusually high reception desk has allowed them to sit and be invisible to hotel guests and which seem to be suited to them to avoid a conversation while being administratively preoccupied.. There was no warmth in any of the staff there with the exception of one receptionist who was very pleasant The breakfast experience had to be the worst as the lady running this morning experience was the consistently the rudest person. Her idea of running the standard hotel fare of a dated breakfast was to appear ruthlessly efficient, banging chafing dishes, plates, serving spoons and she resented being asked for anything. Unbelievably, argumentative and resentful! I did not have breakfast for the remaining days and instead chose to go elsewhere in the town and pay again for it . I have no doubts the positive reviews have been fuelled by the cheap rates being quoted as much of the island is very reasonable on hotel rates. However, there are better quality hotels with friendlier staff and located closer to Angra and nearer to the best restaurants and not isolated in the far end east of the island where this hotel is located.

Dear MOEZJ, We regret that in your 2 reviews for the same stay, you did not find a single positive detail to write. For you, everything was bad at the hotel! Atlântida Mar Hotel is 9 years old - it opened on March 4th 2011. As I already answered to your previous review, the hotel is located in a very quiet area where the only noise you feel are the waves of the sea (sea view rooms). Contrary to what you write, there was no disco across the road. Around the hotel, there’s only a bar 200 meters from the hotel, where there’s no outdoor musical events and we never had complains of noise from that bar in 9 years. That weekend there was a musical event organized by the City Hall of Praia da Vitória, which took place next to the marina, in the city center, 1800 meters from the hotel. The noise of this event reached the hotel because the wind was blowing in the direction of the hotel and the sound propagates excellently in the water (between the place of the event and the hotel, there is the sea, in a straight line). We had already taken the steps we can take about these noises - complaining to the Mayor about the inconvenience this type of event causes to our clients, even though this type of event rarely happens in our city - two or three times a year. Much more affected are the hotels that are in the city center and every city has its parties all over the world. Other guests write in their reviews that the rooms smell fresh and clean. We will ask the supplier company of the rooms TVs to deprogram the "hotel mode" of the TVs so that the sound volume of some channels is not so conditioned. All other guests are unanimous in recognizing the exceptional performance of the entire reception staff and not just one element of that staff. All other guests are also unanimous in praising the excellent work and warmth of the waitress breakfast that was on duty that morning - Ana Sofia her name. She did everything possible to meet all your requests. In this island there's not much tourism during the low season, so our prices are very low in winter, as in all hotels on the island, but in summer, prices go up a lot, as in all hotels on the island, because there is already more demand for tourists. This is the case in all destinations where there is a high seasonality. Most of the good reviews we have had are from stays in the high season, where our prices are much higher. So we don't agree with your comment that we have good reviews because we are a cheap hotel - that's not true. We feel a double injustice for having received from you 2 unfair reviews for the same stay (this one and the other review before) classifying us with the lowest rating, because we have a clear conscience of having done everything to provide you with a pleasant stay, and, being you a 3 hotel owner to whom we gave a 15% discount on the room rate, we advised you the best restaurants of the island and made restaurant reservations. We were very harmed without deserving it, in our opinion and did not understand why you had this attitude towards us. Best Regards Orlando Cabral General Manager&Owner
