Absolutely horrible! This does not even deserve 1 star! It should be shut down by the health & safety institutions! Dirty, rude staff and has absolutely no idea how to be hospitable! The rooms are old, smell of cigarettes, the beds are filthy and dirty, the chair has holes from cigarettes, booked a massage and it finished 7 min early. Apparently you should lay down for couple of minutes and relax, which falls under the massage minutes. I don’t even know how to describe the disappointment you get one here! I feel robbed!

Response from Hotel_AquatoniK, General Manager at Balneo Complex & Spa Aquatonik

The management of Balneo Complex & SPA AquatoniK has reacted sharply against the written opinion on Tripadvisor from 06.08.2018.In our computer system (hotel reservation system) the name: Gina A - Berlin Germany was not found as our guest. This means that the written below is purposeful and malicious act. This complaint has nothing to do with reality. We are working on an established company standard. We received a License from the Ministry of Tourism as a 4 star hotel. When we have been checked by authorized authorities during the years the hotel receiveс impeccable assessments. The hotel maintains perfect hygiene. According to Booking.com Balneo Complex Aquatonik has the highest rating for hygiene among the hotels in Velingrad. In the hotel and in all the hotel area smoking is absolutely forbidden. Smoking is allowed only in the define places outside of the hotel. For the hotel staff this is an abusive, malicious, unfair and inappropriate agitation!

The hotel has really a big choice of water SPA facilities. However the SPA area is too small for the hotel size. So very often the SPA area is overcrowded and you do not feel comfortable and even cannot use all of the facilities. There is a big choice of food and the quality is good but the restaurant is also small with not so much light. Smoking is prohibitied in the rooms however the ventilation is constructed in a way that if sombody smokes (which often happens) your room will be overfilled with smoke. So maybe its a good place to visit once because of the unique water area especially if you have the chance that the hotel does not have so many guests. But definitely do not expect a four star hotel. A three star is much more reallistic.

The best thing in the hotel is the large spa center and additional facilities to the swimming pools as salt room, steam bath, etc. Kids swimming pool is too small. The staff is friendly. Due to location of the hotel in the winter time the air in the room was like the smoke from outside.

The hotel is located quite a walk from the town center and there is just one restaurant close by (which did not work during my entire stay) - it was not a big problem for me, but consider this aspect if you come with parents, children etc. and/or do not have a car. Bear in mind that the parking lot is tiny, so do not bring massive SUVs. Rooms are not impressively spacious either, but the worst thing in the room is the wardrobe/cupboard - it is barely sufficient for one person's clothes. Then the TV set, yes, it is a flat-screen one but so tiny and low quality that your laptop will probably do a much better job if you decide to watch a movie. No movies over the Internet though because the latter is incredibly terribly bad, slow and intermittent - I think it would be better if hotel management just cut it off entirely so that not to create an impression that there is Internet... I suspect they might still be using dial-up connection. Wine in the mini-bar is a terrible disaster, so do not drink it under any circumstances. If you want to do something more active, well, hotel bicycles are poorly kept so please rent them elsewhere - there was one being offered without a rear break, and another one got one of the pedals falling off. As for the spa, there are many saunas and the idea is great generally, however the quality and design of these facilities are so-so, and the thermal pools are extremely small for a hotel of such size, so they get crowded very quickly. Breakfast buffer starts quite late (8am) so if you are an early bird, well, sorry for you. The choice is pretty good but food - not so much. How in the world would you dare to serve cold beans?! Eggs, unless cooked on order, are also barely warm and, in both cases, quite overcooked and not very tasty. Also, the juices are so diluted that grapefruit and orange juices taste the same, and disgustingly bad coffee tops up the list (would anyone bother to ever clean up the coffee machines please?). On the other hand, the food from the on-site restaurant (ordered room service) turned out to be pretty good. All in all, aspiring is great but in 4-star hotel category the performance of this one is quite poor. I would give it 3 stars at best and even then would not rate it better than average and only for the thermal pools, saunas and good on-site restaurant.

Aquatonik is our favourite spa hotel in Velingrad. We return to Aquatonik almost every year, because the spa break in this small and cosy hotel seems to be the best for us. There we always feel relaxed. The quality is excellent and really good value.

The aquatonik pool is unique. It's a huge jacuzzi for all parts of the body. No other hotel in Bulgaria has such aquatonik pool.
The food in the restaurant is excellent. The staff is friendly. The internet in the rooms is really good - you can stream and watch Netflix, Youtube or any other tv channels via app.
We will continue returning to this hotel as long as the quality is preserved good and prices are reasonable.

Sorry no malls close by to visit - just relaxation. But you could instead walk around the lake and in the natural park Cleptuza in the mountains or take a narrow railway train close by with very picteresque mountain views on... More
