I should qualify this by saying that if you're coming to Monteverde for a relaxing time, you probably shouldn't be staying in Santa Elena at all. With steep one-way streets and lots of trucks and motos, it's incredibly noisy for such a small place, at...More
Wonderful Hostel. Clean and friendly, with Staff that goes out of its way to help you shape your adventure. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend, will be back. First backpacking experience for my 13 yo, who loved it, but the place was equally welcoming for families, singles,...More
This was my first stop out of San Jose on my 22 day trip around Costa Rica. I didn't plan on coming here so I didn't book a room in Monteverde. (dumb move!!!) after trying three other hostels I found myself here, and I'm so...More
My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights. We originally were booked for the 12th and 13th of March, but due to an airline mishap, ended up having to stay for the 13th and 14th.

As the other respondent said, the shuttle is not free, but I can't really imagine it would be as Santa Elena is way up in the mountains. A resort close to the airport could have a free shuttle theoretically, but I never saw any free shuttles really. There are plenty of transportation options for tours and activities. Sometimes the place that you get the tour will send transport or the kind folks at the pension can help arrange things for you.
