Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The staff is so welcoming and helpful, and the facilities are top-notch. I especially loved the outdoor patio area – perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning or a cocktail in the evening. The hostel location was great easy walk to downtown

We red a lot of positive reviews of this place, but our experience was horrible. To start, after check-out we discovered bedbug bites. We stayed here for several nights so it’s definitely from this hostel. I send an email to inform the hostel so future backpackers wouldn’t end up in the same situation. The hostel never replied…. Secondly, breakfast is not worth the money and if you want to make your own breakfast, kitchen only opens at 9am. The kitchen is poorly equipped and closes early (according the rules 9pm but they frequently close earlier). You can't even take plastic cups outside. Thirdly, the whole hostel in covered in leaflets with rules. For example if you don't clean your dishes, wifi will be shut down. Or if you don't dry your dishes a $10 fine will be given. And finally, the staff was very rude to us. When closing the kitchen at 20:45, we asked if we could finish our drinks and they replied: 'no, reglas son reglas'. But it wasn't even 9pm.

Don't stay here!

The room was clean, tidy, and there was hot water in the shower. It was good.
However I has the feeling that the staff was very strict. We can't have access to the kitchen before 9 a.m and after 8 p.m. Even the owner saw me asking for him to open the kitchen before 9a.m to take my things, he didn't want to open the door.
Moreover, the "free breakfast" is free only if you pay 15$ a night.
If you want to do not expensive activities, you shouldn't ask to the staff.

Really rude staff. Went to get laundry done, they dyed all my clothes pink and when we complained refused to give us our money back or call their boss. It was the most expensive laundry service I’ve had in all of Costa Rica as well. Don’t go here.

I am a solo traveller and my purpose was to visit the parks and enjoy the nature. The staff was really rude. I could not find my mask and instead of offering a private space where I could search my luggage, he told me to open my bag on the floor in front of him. I insisted to be private and they opened the room but refused to give me the key even if I had already paid. He said I was not following the rule for check in and would not give the key until I heard all the instructions for breakfast, making no sense as breakfast is at 7 and I was leaving for 6.30. He almost kicked me out. I spent a horrrible night. The beds are uncomfortable and the door of the room did not close properly. I was scared of the staff.

Mauricius was really polite and helpful. For the little money I payed, I got an okay room and most of all, really good service. Ask for all the tours and help you want, he knows! The hostel is localized in the middle of Santa Elena.

Fellow backpackers, I urge you to avoid this hostel. Mounteverde has plenty of better options for your backpacking needs.
Yorle is the owner of this tiny hostel in the main triangle of Santa Elena. We had come from La Fortuna and was recommended this hostel by another traveler(not sure why). We had called Yorle 2 days before we arrived to reserve. Her website had said 10 bucks for a dorm and 25 for a private room. We decided to go with the dorm room. When we called she informed us it was 10 for dorm and 30 for private room. She also required a credit card to reserve when many hostels do not.
We had arrived one day early in Mounteverde and stayed at montelena backpackers for the night. It was 10 for a private room and shared bath. Which was clean and comfortable. The next day we were at sloths with Yorle in person and she told us again 10 dollars for a dorm. The day before we left sloths she stuck a 72 dollar bill in our face claiming it was 12 dollars a night and we just weren't listening. My girlfriend and I were extremely offended. When my girlfriend said something Yorle was outright rude.
Other reviews say she is very helpful and everything is very clean. But they are all very short and uninformative. So let me break it down for you.
Positives: clean, good breakfast, cool hammock chairs outside. Good wifi

Negatives: Yorle is a scam artist 100%, she is no more helpful than anyone else at any other hostel trying to earn their commission from activities, their pillows are like a piece of rice paper(you're better off sleeping on your arm)
And the hot water showers only work half the time. Cancelling your reservations takes 48 hours(when reservations are not entirely necessary)

As I said before there are many better options for your stay in Mounteverde. Hopefully whoever reads this takes our advice. Thanks. Safe travels everyone.
