My wife and I have been visiting Unawatuna regularly for ten years, including January 2013. We have stayed at Shangri-la:Kahuna Club exclusively since we spotted it on our third trip. The tropical garden grounds are spacious, quiet and restful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food is always fresh and really delicious, with a chef who's happy to make...

We spent 2 nights in a double room of the main house. They also have nice cabanas and bungalows. You can relax wonderfully in the well-kept huge tropical garden with its palm trees and rich vegetation. Perfect for families with small children. One night they had a delicious barbecue with butterfish, barracuda, chicken, etc. 5 min walk to the beach.

Decent place to stay. Quite close the beach. Food was pretty good. They make it fresh. Service was pretty good. They helped us a lot. We had to leave because of an emergency back home and they were really helpful.

We had booked other budget accommodation, but when we arrived it was smelly and very basic and more expensive than advertised (and no en-suite). We found the Kahuna Club ( ex Shang ri la) by accident and found it to be clean comfortable and excellent value. The staff and proprietor couldn't have been more accommodating and the garden setting was...

Since more than 5 years we, a family of 3, have chosen Kahuna Club (formerly known as Shangri-La) as our Number 1 place in UNAWATUNA. We discovered this gem in December 2006 and since then we always came back! We just returned from this year´s X-Mas holiday and useless to say: It was again a perfect holiday. We felt like...

We stayed four nights. The room was good and clean despite the fact that our warm water was not working. No problem, if you have 35°C outside. It was interesting, that the manager strongly recommended to put money and valuables in a safe that should be accessible at every time. We did so since we wanted to go diving without...

We stayed here with a our children & a group of freinds, for more than two weeks. The grounds are beautiful & well kept, quiet & very secure, especially useful as we had young children with us. The cabana's are lovely & very clean. We stayed in hut 1, which was beautiful with a traditional palm leaf roof and lovely...

we stayed in the wooden cabanas at the Shangri La in Unawatuna for 5 nights towards end of January. The guesthouse is situated 5 min walk from the beach, near to small tourist shops and small eating places. It is a very peaceful place, situated in its own tropical garden. Food is excellent and prices are good. The staff were...

Unawatune was our first step on the Sri Lanka beaches. We wanted a quite busy place to spend the new year's week. And it was really busy! a little bit too much even... In a couple of years, there'll be more guest houses and restaurants on the beach than sand! Nothing to do with the paradiasiac pictures on the guides......
