Stayed here last week. Thank god we were booked for only one night. I guess if you are young and energetic it would be ok. When wt arrived the receptionist said We had to climb 72 stairs for one room and over 100 stairs to another. The stairs were spiral and narrow. We told the receptionist there was no way we could stay there. They managed to organise other rooms. The room we occupied had big holes in the floor. The air conditioning was leaking. The bathroom did not have a ceiling! I guess so that one can admire nature but I was just so scared that come creepy crawly would come by. There were animal noises all night long. Food was very average
We used Thambapanni Retreat in Unawatuna as a base to explore Galle, Dalawella beach, Mirissa Beach and Unawatuna. We highly recommend this hotel. It was a great place to stay. Beautiful gardens around a nice pool make it very cool in the tropical heat. Very short stroll to the beach means it is nice and quiet away from hustle and bustle (and noise.) Sitting on the verandah with a cool sea breeze looking through the forest with a troop of monkeys for company. The staff are exceptional and very friendly. The included breakfast is great. We ate dinner at the restaurant one of the nights- best chicken stir fry I have ever eaten!! Thanks Thambapanni Retreat- We would definitely stay there again. (Family with a 3year old and 1 year old)
We spend 8 days at this wonderful retreat in February. The hotel is simply the best place to relax, do yoga and enjoy the good food as well as enjoying the monkeys in the trees just above the pool. The staff is very nice and service minded. The retreat is situated in a very nice area of Unawatuna close to the Beach. We would love to come back another time.
we spend for a few nights after a tour of sri lanka and before returning to our country.what an excellent choice.we stayed 31 night at this property.kids are playing around everywhere.well decorated and my kids are touched king coconut and they thought it is real bulbs.good restaurant staff and specially thanks to mr sugath.because he explained the varieties of steaks and food preparation as a chef.because of him we have to get the food many times in the restaurant.. the pool is very nice and person trying to clean every time,so boutique resort is a great place to relax and they had a sister property offered a tuk tuk definitely we will back to this hotel next time.👍💞
The Thambapanni Retreat is set in a beautiful lush tropical garden, with birds, monkeys and butterflies all around. Our room was beautifully decorated in a rustic style, with bold colours, a four poster bed and a cement floor inlaid with brass flowers and wooden beams, very unique! The staff here are extremely welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. True Srilankan hospitality! The restaurant in the retreat was a real surprise! The food prepared by Chef Muditha was without doubt the best we’ve had in the two weeks in Sri Lanka. We tried the prawn curry, crab curry and the grilled calamari and prawns, all served with dahl, banana flower curry, pumpkin curry and green bean curry. Absolutely delicious, all cooked with different spices, yet the flavours complemented each other perfectly. And the price was the same as most of the restaurants in the town. This will be our number one choice when we come back to Unawatuna!…
