We recently spent 4 days in Rubyvale, Qld. Staying at the oasis in the dust that is the Rubyvale Motel & Holiday Units.

Our unit (no.1) was absolutely perfect for our needs. Fully air-conditioned, lots of room, comfortable bed and storage and the kitchen was stocked with all the little necessaries right down to salt & pepper. It was impeccably clean and there was an on-site laundry and a refreshing salt water pool to cool off in after a day of digging.

The motel is a short distance to the pub and general store. Unfortunately the observatory wasn't open whilst we were there, but that didn't impact on our stay at all. We'll just need to go back next year 🙂

Our hosts Michael & Jane were just lovely. Very knowledgeable about the area and their gems.

We were first time fossickers and have definitely caught the "gem bug". So we'll be back and will be booking our unit again.

We did a girls trip (4 of us) and booked a unit and a motel room right next door for a 4 night stay. The location was superb - just a short walk to Rubyvale town with cafes, hotel and grocery store.
The unit was fully equipped so we did a mixture of cooking and eating out.
Set amongst nature we were visited every day by a beautiful friendly wallaby complete with a Joey.
We did the on-site observatory experience one night and it was well worth it - Michael is so knowledgeable about our solar system and the telescope did not let us down with such clear views of the planets, stars etc
We had terrific hosts with Michael and Jane and we highly recommend their place.

If you like peace and quiet Rubyvale Motel and Holiday units is the place to go. It is child free so no little angels roaming around. Our unit was very tidy and well kept. It had every convenience... a home away from home. Michael and Jane are excellent hosts. And Michael is the owner of a large telescope set in his observatory. We learned lots from his knowledge of astronamy. We also got to see the stars and planets... best of all a close up of the moon which we managed to capture n our mobile.

The motel is very close to the gem fields where we fossicked for and found (very small) saphires that probably weren't worth much but it is worth the stay at this great motel set in a great bush location.

This is a wonderful motel to stay at. The rooms were spacious, had comfy beds and basic cooking with a microwave etc. The grounds are immaculate and it was lovely sitting on our little front patio feeding the birds and kangaroos in the afternoon. Obviously the owners have put a lot of time, effort and love into making this a truly lovely place to stay. We will definitely be back - especially to try our luck at finding more sapphires!

We had the pleasure of staying at Rubyvale Motel for two nights early this month. Some places just grab you, and this was one of those places. From the time we checked in until the time we left, this place ticked all the boxes for us. Excellent first contact upon arrival, followed by a very clean fully equipped 2 bedroom self contained unit. A great kitchen with all the appliances, including a stove and utensils. The bed is very comfy (the one bedroom unit wasn't available at the time of booking).
The night sky is absolutely stunning. Just walk out the front and sit in a fold out chair with a beer/wine, cheese and bickies and just stare into the Milky Way.
We took up the option of the observatory at night with Michael ($45.00 pp), which was well worth the $$$. A very good explanation of the stars outdoors with a lazer with some excellent viewings through the telescope of Jupiter and Saturn and others, courtesy of the telescope.
Want to hand feed wild lorikeets and wallabies? No problem. Just sit out the front of your unit and wait. We'll be back, nothing surer!

Great accommodation with spacious, clean and quiet rooms with kitchens. Each room has an outdoor sitting area to observe the wildlife and gardens.
Very helpful owners and, with clear skies, the observatory on the grounds can be booked.
Sapphire sales available for those unsuccessful fossickers.
Good value and highly recommended,

We had a lovely 2 night stay in July 24. Beautifully presented accommodation and well maintained location, close to all the local areas of interest. Jane and Michael were very welcoming and answered all our questions. We enjoyed our 'star gazing' despite the clouds!
Highlights included a Wallaby mum, with joey, who came from adjoining bushland to to say hallo, while we sat under the porch having our lunch. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Please dont change a thing? it was one of the nicest and relaxing stays that we have ever had and now that we are home from our 6800km road trip can say that our stay with you will definitely go into "the pool room" as a remarkable stay. Anybody who wishes to "go bush" with the comforts of home need to look no further. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We found this gem of a motel in the Gemfields about 10 years ago, since then we have returned yearly to recharge our batteries. Jane is a wonderful host and always makes you feel welcomed. Her knowledge of gems especially for fossickers are absolutely valuable.

This was our second stay at this motel and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The wildlife was great to see around the well kept grounds.

Our unit was very clean and a fully air-conditioned large room with a good sized ensuite and a fully functional kitchenette.

Michael & Jane were very accommodating by having a single bed for my sister, (it would be very weird sleeping in the same bed, right! )

There is plenty of room to move around and both beds were comfortable. Our kitchen was stocked with all the cutlery, pots & pans, mugs etc as well as wine glasses. The fridge was stocked with water, softdrinks, beer and wine along with complimentary milk, tea & coffee.

The motel is a short distance to the pub and general store and a short drive to Sapphire.

We'll definitely be back to try our luck again at the Gemfields and will definitely book in here again.

Thank you Michael & Jane and we will see you again.
