From our first connection in booking through to our final departure Marion was the epitome of the perfect host. From making initial recommendations on our booking to change rooms, to changing advice as we moved through various covid driven changes and for the whole time we were staying her (and Graeme´s) approach was to make you feel part of the family which was a role we were happy to oblige. The room was open, light and whilst time spent their was short (with so much to do outside) it provided all requirements with the bath facing the window to see the myriad wildlife entertainment an additional highlight. Combined with an ever adapting selection for breakfast as we both got to know each other we couldn't have been better looked after. Covid was something that was always in mind (but not in an oppressive way) and we soon all found a comfortable rhythm keeping safe but still able to enjoy the time spent together. With the turning of colours happening in the Cairngorms encapsulated in the Grounds, friendly local squirrels, and a very comfortable atmosphere Coig Na Shee epitomised everything we hoped for in a visit to this wonderful part of the world and were delighted to have been lucky enough to have chosen to stay. We cannot recommend this B&B more highly...

Response from Marion Broad, Owner at Coig Na Shee
Responded 28 Oct 2020
You have made us blush! We are so glad that you both finally made it up here after having to cancel your walking trip earlier in the year. It is so lovely to hear your comments as it's exactly how we want to run the B&B during these difficult times. Yes, there are things that we 'need' to maintain such as face coverings and distancing etc, but we still want to make our guests stay as relaxed and as 'normal' as possible. Autumn is a beautiful time of year, with the red squirrels in full nut hiding action, and the autumnal colours have been wonderful, something you wouldn't have experienced had you come up as planned, so there's always a silver lining! Best wishes for the rest of the year and for your next walking trip to Scotland.

We were completely delighted by this guest house. We stayed for 5 nights with my sister and her husband. The house and grounds are beautiful, quiet and peaceful. Marion and Graeme are friendly yet unobtrusive hosts. Marion was very helpful and considerate of our needs. Their home cooking is excellent.
Our room was huge and very comfortable with a lovely outlook over the garden and the gorgeous old trees which attract a range of birds and a few red squirrels. The linen and towels were sumptuously clean and luxurious. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in.
The accommodation is immaculately clean and well maintained throughout. We had no objections to removing dirty shoes at the door and wore our clean soft shoes indoors.
If you enjoy walking, the guesthouse has easy access to the wildcat trails around Newtonmore, and the walk into the hills behind is not to be missed as the views are stunning.

Peaceful location on the edge of Newtonmore. Our room was spacious with a view across the valley and, from the bathroom a view of the enormous pine trees in the garden grounds. Marion and Graeme are excellent hosts that have the knack of putting visitors at ease. Breakfasts are superb, and this year with the uncertainty surrounding access to local restaurants Marion offered to cook evening meals, which were delicious.

Easy to walk from the house to the centre of Newtonmore or along the river and into the Monadhliath. There are some good bike trails that can be accessed from the house. One from Newtonmore that takes you east of the Insh marshes all the way to Aviemore.

We've stayed here numerous times over the last 8 years and will return.

I stayed at Coig Na Shee as part of a small group hiking tour and highly recommend. Marion and her family are welcoming hosts. The rooms are spotless and well appointed, There are some charming extra seating areas in other parts of the house as well where you can check out the excellent selection of books and reference materials. We did a beautiful walk to a local loch and very much enjoyed hunting the wildcats in town. I hope to make it back to the Cairngorms in the future and if I do, I will most certainly stay here again. Many thanks!

We just had a short break at Coig na Shee as part of a tour of the Highlands. As soon as we arrived the house felt so inviting with a roaring fire in the reception hall, very welcome on a chilly day. The huge bedroom overlooked the side garden and the magnificent en-suite overlooked the pine trees to the rear where we saw a cheeky red squirrel making full use of the feeder on the tree before darting up the tree and jumping from tree to tree on his way home. The deep bath is perfectly positioned to allow you to view the tops of the pines as you relax. Our room was beautifully furnished with a king-sized bed and comfortable sofa. The breakfasts were a treat with fresh fruit each morning and delicious hot breakfasts cooked to order, all in all, superb.

We recently stayed for five nights in this fabulous guest house; Coig na Shee is a total gem and Marion & Graeme are the perfect hosts.

On arrival we received a very warm welcome and our spacious room (The Larches) surpassed our expectations. Spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated with lovely comfy chairs where we could sit and read overlooking the trees. A hospitality tray was well stocked with coffee and a great selection of teas along with some nice biscuits. Such a comfortable bed in a such a peaceful setting ensured we had no trouble sleeping. The ensuite was also pristine and the fluffy white towels were of hotel standard.

The breakfasts were so tasty and of an extremely high standard. Each night we placed our order for cooked items for the following morning, there was great variety (including vegetarian options) and this was all in addition to fruit juice, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt and toast. The specials were just that! Simply divine blueberry pancakes (with or without bacon) and poached eggs with avocado on sourdough toast. We were spoilt for choice! The dining room overlooked the garden and we loved to watch the red squirrels while we enjoyed our breakfast.

If you have the opportunity to visit please do!

Coig Na Shee strikes the ideal balance between offering a friendly, attentive service and being intuitively inobtrusive. It's the perfect retreat - warm and comfortable, with everything you need delivered in a simple, uncomplicated kind of way.

The house itself is beautiful, and Marion has really put a lot of thought into the details to create a cosy space for all of the guests. Whatever you might need is readily given with kindness and a smile, be it a more milk and cookies for your room or a well-used map to help plan a nature walk.

I travelled by train and found the village to be a lot quieter than some of the more touristy places, which was perfect for a relaxing weekend away and I could have stayed a week just as easily. A car would perhaps have given me more freedom to explore further afield, but there were plenty of nice walks to choose from right on the doorstep, and I enjoyed the simplicity of being in a smaller village.

Breakfast was delicious, and very generous. My room (The Limes) offered a quality sleep in a dark, quiet setting. Overall, everything about my stay here was just perfect, and delivered exactly what was needed for an easy break in the countryside. Marion cares about her guests, and it shows up in everything she has created here.

Thanks for a lovely stay, I look forward to coming back again soon.

Coig Na Shee was a delightful stay. The B&B was pristine from top to bottom which is my "Home away from Home" where I knew instantly my stay was going to be a happy memorable one. I was able to switch off and enjoy the cleanliness, magnificence and beauty of this property. Marion was most helpful, she assisted me with the selection of a personal Scottish tour guide who was amazing as he had detailed knowledge of all the places we toured. Marion is a charming lady, excellent in all food preparation, breakfasts and evening meals were superb. I would be back in Coig Na Shee in a heartbeat!

We stayed here for three nights in order to do some guided walks on the area. The owner was happy to provide an early breakfast and this included their tasty daily specials as we had a couple of early starts, all very accommodating and friendly, safe and sensible COVID protocols too. The rooms are very good we stayed in the pines, a quick look at the firs implied the other rooms are very nice too. We also got a very tasty evening meal on the Sunday, but there are some good eating places in Newtonmore
