Travellers' Choice
Our resort is entirely surrounded by green, behind the famous Black Sands Beach and in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment. Mari del Sud Resort in Vulcano Island enjoys a privileged position allowing our guests to enjoy the unusual and fascinating sight of contrast between the deep blue sea and the magmatic colors of the background. The village has been recently expanded and entirely renovated. With a direct access to the sea, it includes low buildings separated by gardens and dotted with green passageways naturally framing the structure. The architectural style was inspired by Aeolian tradition combined with modern facilities, creating a comfortable shelter for his fragrances and sceneries, according to the best Mediterranean style.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bad service and over charging. Service with a scowl. Front of house moaned when we asked to sit by the sea as per our booking. My wife explained that she was vegan and if she could have a salad and focaccia. She was recommended the bresaola salad without the bresaola. The other pizza arrived, then a 5 min wait for the salad which arrived with the bresaola and after my wife complained they just removed the bresaola. Not really the done thing, so they remade the salad, which was essentially a bowl of carrot and iceberg. Focaccia arrives after another 15 minutes after repeated reminders. Bill arrives with full charge for bresaola salad and after reminding them that it was just a bowl of iceberg they took 2euro from the dish. Poor service, poor food, bad experience.

We were really looking forward to our stay here as the photos on the internet looked extremely promising. We expected a calm, cozy oasis with nicely designed, clean rooms. Reality hit very hard - it was a complete disaster; we left after 1 day.

Although this report has nice rooms, and beautiful views, we were left with a sour feeling from how we were treated. We were not the only customers during our stay who were charged for drinks that we understood to be covered by a (so called) 'free drink voucher' handed out during check in. Whats more in our case we were also charged for a bottle of wine that we did not have, and were also charged a greater amount than was listed on their menu for pizzas and other drinks. When we raised this overcharge with the staff, they repeatedly refused to acknowledge the error, and refused our request to provide any refund. Since we are aware that at least two other couples had similar problems, this can only be either wide incompetence in staff record keeping, or a deliberate policy intended towards charging customers more. We feel both angry and sad about this. It is also the first time from many reviews I've felt the need for such a negative review.

Super resort at Vulcano close to wonderful black beaches. Hotel is splendid for family or couples wanting to explore the Aeolian Islands. Excellent, clean rooms with own terrasse - ours had view to the Vulcano mountain. The pool is most charming and the restaurant at the beach side, is a perfect place for a good start of the day or a relaxing evening. Staff at Mari del Sud very friendly: Cristina most service minded and doing a good job. Rossano always helpful at the reception. And Melo the most kind and friendly driver, you can imagine. In short, Mari del Sud is a perfect place for a water activities, hiking or other adventures, i.e. visits to Stromboli, Panarea, Lipari etc.

We booked the Mari del Sud resort by accident, not realising it was on an island off the coast of Sicily! However, it was the best mistake we ever made. We went in June so the whole island was relatively quiet .. there were always free sunbeds by the pool (no 6am rush to place your towel), and it was very peaceful. I informed the hotel of which ferry we were taking to the island and they sent someone to collect us from the port (free of charge). The rooms were beautiful, each with their own terrace, but the only down side was the WiFi signal - only really available at the pool. The staff were really friendly and helpful, but some don’t speak much English (it seemed to be a place where Italians go on holiday). I would definitely recommend anyone to go to this hotel, if you want a relaxing holiday on a beautiful, quiet island. However... make sure you take mosquito spray - the place is full of them!

Mari del Sud Resort. is graded as a 4 star hotel.Hotel rooms OK besides weak internet with its strongest signal near the pool.Almost no signal in the rooms. The restaurant has a nice position by the sea with lovely views but the serving staff and the half board menu extremely poor. We had booked half board but were told that the half board menu was to be present next coming weeks. After protests, we could finally get the half board menu for the days of our stay. However, many times they lacked the food described on the menu, served us not the wine that we had ordered but a more expensive one and similar with wrong desserts several times. It is not a 4 star hotel that should have such a poor restaurant. We felt bad every time going to the dinner, a feeling that destroyed our vacation. It was a shame!

We booked a Suite and they where overbooked or underorganized, it took them 2 hours to finally deliver a Suite which was not officially opened yet. They apologized many times and tried to make up for it, but all over I can not recommand this Ex-Mercure Resort. The average rooms are small, the beach is not nice and their wonderful terrace above the restaurant is somehow not ready. When it rained, all cushions where soaked in water, nobody seemd to care. Breakfast was crowded and service very slow. So we did have a good time, it was for the Island itself, not for the hotel. I guess they need more time to have it all organized.

The hotel itself was great. Helpful reception, clean rooms, everything was provided even a free toothbrush and razor although I think there could be a more environmentally friendly option as this was a lot of plastic waste. The massages were great, well priced and easy to book. We had the half board option and breakfast was great, then we could choose between having lunch or dinner. I would advise against this, the pizza is ok other food was not nice at all! The town is walking distance and there are lots of lovely restaurants. The roof top terrace cocktails were great but this shut and all music was turned off at 10:30pm The dive centre on site was brilliant. I would recommend this hotel.

Me and my husband stayed here for a week. We loved it and would gladly come again. The staff welcoming. The room was clean and bed good was good. Room service every day. Great breakfast and we also had dinner there twice and it was good. The pizzas great. Outdoor pool great and and privat access to the sea, which we loved. Only negative I can say that the WiFi was poor in our room. But we had a great week there.
