We had a one stay on our way back to Mallorca.
The property is stunning and has beautiful grounds which is one of the reasons we chose the hotel as we have a German shepherd.
Our room, a suite, was superb and very spacious and well located for reception, restaurant and all the grounds.
Reception was efficient , helpful and friendly.
Room service was also very good and efficient.
So far so good. The problem the hotel has is for a 5 star at these prices details are important.
The car park is a distance from the reception and there is no valet parking available and no one present around the car par to help with luggage etc. For me this is a must for a 5 star.
The restaurant. The food was very good, however the service, although friendly, was slow.
We waited a while before someone asked us what we wanted to drink . I was shocked when we asked for 2 Bloody Marys and we were told that they did not do those types of cocktails! Apparently they only do “classic cocktails”.... that for a top restaurant is ludicrous
We then waited for a while for the wine we ordered, so we sat there for at least 30 minutes without getting a drink
One last point if your a pet owner. Although you pay a supplement to have your pet stay the hotel does not even provide a dogs bowl in the room. So take yours...
I would not discourage anyone from staying here and we may well go back but they need to iron out the small details to be truly 5 star

We really enjoyed our stay there, the hotel is very convenient for remote working.

The hotel itself is really nice, just next to the city on hand and almost totally lost in nature on the other hand. The property is surrounded by vineyards and you have to try their wine, it is very good. It is very quiet, and it was a delight. They have really well adapted the security measures due to covid. You can book the indoor swimming pool for One hour. You still manage to taste an amazing menu in you room. We really enjoyed it as well. The chef is really good and everything is done in order to be fully adapted to the in room dining. In room service was good, the staff really try his best in order to make you happy and are really nice.

We had the coquelicot appartement and we really loved it.

We also did some spa treatment and they were very good

Clearly our stay there was a delight

We only stopped here for a night, on our way to the Alps … but a most enjoyable stop it was.

We were met in the car park by the very efficient baggage handler who helped us with our cases and put them on a golf cart. We then headed off to the lovely spa, and upon our return to the main hotel building we checked-in formally and were taken up to our room where the bags were awaiting us.

The room itself was quite small but perfectly functional, and with a great outdoor terrace. Sadly, it being winter, we couldn’t make any use of it! There was a full range of amenities, a comfortable bed and a very good shower.

Dinner in the evening in Marcelle was preceded by very nice cocktails in the bar area next to the other restaurant. Marcelle itself was wonderful and very much deserving of its Michelin star.

Things I didn’t like very much were some of the plastic furniture (including the seats in the room). While it may be very trendy, I found the seating uncomfortable and don’t like the look of it (although, I realise that that is a matter of taste). There were also some problems in the spa area, including very noisy pipes in the mens showers (which positively screamed their displeasure at being used) and a very poorly designed locker area, in which everyone had to work their way into and out of tight corners.

Very disappointing stay. I went to the Domaine on number of occasions and though it is rare for me to return to places, Verchant was one I loved and enjoyed every time until this stay. This amazing exclusive place in the past turned into a mass customer experience where client isn’t important any longer, what counts is how many guests you get in (and all the current construction work shows it will get even worse) Certainly the beauty of the domain and how it’s positioned now will attract new clients who enjoy lounge ambiance (without a service ) or people who stay there for one night while they transfer to another places ( many) but this is no longer standard of Relais Chateaux. Place is noisy, impersonal, good for seminars or big parties but not for a stay one gets resourced. The worse, the restaurant La Plage. Overall, service is totally incompetent and unprofessional . Guests are waiting for 40 mins before someone even comes. Guests were without forks and knifes and when staff were called after about 5 mins waiting with warm food, they were given fork from a neighboring table that was used before by people who decided to change their table ! Other guests were seated at the same table (used) with napkins not changed ( clearly visible they were used before!) and obviously no forks and knifes… Bottle of wine proposed to a wrong table where the gentlemen was embarrassed not to get one, spoons for dessert dressed for main course, etc etc. I have not seen such treatment in most simple restaurant…What to say more? Not much, just that I am sad to have lost a place that used to be truly special. All the best.

It’s a heartwarming thing to choose a hôtel purely on the basis of location only to find that it’s really a bit of a gem.

We had an eight night stay at the beautiful Domain de Verchant, set amongst its own vineyards and parkland, only a few kilometres outside historic Montpellier.

The rooms were both charming and well appointed , the food in the two different restaurants was really very good and the spa/ pool areas are quite wonderful with first rate facilities.

However, it is the professional and friendly service that sets this hotel apart . Under the General manager, Jean-Pascal Picolette, thé team show their dedication and pleasure in looking after their residents, whether it be serving a poolside sandwich or a 5 course fine dining meal at their superb restaurant Marcelle.

Thank you all at Domaine de Verchant for creating such an enjoyable family holiday.

We enjoyed so much the Maison Verchant and wanted to experience the Domaine de Verchant… and we cannot hide our disappointment in terms of accommodation and restaurant experience. The breakfast, the spa, the bellboy remain at high standards… but the room is so old (mattress too much used, not enough light in the bathroom, a leaking bathtub…) even tough we received a free upgrade. We had dinner at the La Plage - the apéritif was average but the staff was too busy, the starter was decent, the main course too dry and the dessert acceptable. As bread lovers, we were disappointed as it was so dry we did not finish it. The atmosphere in the room was spoiled by a very noisy wedding lunch - why did you not privatize the room for this event?

I am writing this now as I thought the General Manager who I contacted on Linked In would value my feedback.I even followed up and asked if he wanted to comment and nothing. This is a beautiful place with great attention to detail. My partner gave the best description by saying she felt unloved. We stayed for 3 nights and as we checked in were given one night option to eat in the gourmet restaurant and to guarantee it we had to let them know quickly. When I went to the Brasserie to check for dinner I was told I hadn’t book there and not only give my room number but phone number as well!
If you sit by the pool no-one comes and offers you drinks oh and for room service breakfast you get €5 added to your bill(there’s a first). You may also be there when there’s a business meeting-there were 2 whilst we were there so the WiFi continually goes down.It felt like being on a campus.
Such a shame as excellent food and wonderful setting

We spent one night in suite #65, enjoying dinner and breakfast ordered with room service (restaurant closed / COVID-19). We have found the place extraordinary and the accommodation perfect. Note that the semi-opened bathroom may not suit all people's need for intimacy, and that the suite is built on different levels, with stairs to walk up and down, something that can be inconvenient as well. Staff was proactive, and food as wine was great. One of the best Relais & Chateaux I have experienced so far. The only reason not to rate it 5* comes from dysfunctional lights in our dressing room. The lights turned on automatically from time to time, all night long, waking us up! Motion detector does not work well at all. I reported it to front desk when checking out, and I wonder whether we were the first ones to experience that failure.

Beautiful domaine with a very spacious spa. I didn’t try the restaurant but room service was quick. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The spa is very clean and the staff is super friendly and they made sure I got my last minute appointment booked. The gym is clean and lots of equipments. It s quiet and relaxing. Just a note: The car park is away from reception so u have to carry your bags all the way

For the past eight or so years the ONLY decent place to stay in Montpellier has been Jardin des Sens which, whilst still lovely, is becoming a bit lack lustre and out-dated.

I read a mini article in Conde Nast Traveller about Domaine de Verchant and booked up and we are delighted to have found this stunning new gem.

The actual building, vineyards, gardens and spa are all gorgeous but the interior is where the magic really begins. Each room is jaw-droppingly beautiful, quirky and fun. In the public areas there are several exquisite salons, all individually designed from the all white one to the pink and orange one, the library, bar and AMAZING kitchen. Even the gym is ultra stylish.

Our room, at the top of the main building, was one of the most perfect hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. Huge flat screen, internet access, fab bath with separate tv (and waterproof remote), dressing room, wonderful bed etc etc. Everything was thought out and a sheer delight to use. There were some really amazing pieces of one-off furniture that one never normally sees in hotel rooms.

The breakfast was completely and wonderfully over the top. Cereals, a huge basket of pastries to ourselves, honies, jams, meats and yoghurts - the lot - and it was served in the kitchen which has to be the funkiest version of a 'chef's table' that I have ever come across.

The staff were also very aesthetically pleasing and all had a real can-do attitude. The whole experience was wonderful.

We are very keen hotel visitors, we own a very busy one in the Cotswolds and have an almost obsessive interest in checking out other hotels. This one most definitely met and exceeded even our highest expectations. Could be the best we've stayed in, closely followed by La Mirande in Avignon.

We are going back in July - wish it was tomorrow.

Dogs are allowed in both restaurants and bars and in the grounds generally. They are not allowed by the main pool but we did have our medium sized dog with us by the smaller pool.

We live in NY and visited as part of a road trip around France. Our timing was according to the timing of our trip. We arrived on April 28th for 3 nights and it was lovely. We wanted to visit Montpellier and we also wanted a hotel with an indoor pool. However, as i think i mentioned in my review, when we arrived the desk clerk said, "We have 3 pools. One outdoors is not heated; one is. The third one is indoors." Well, one pool, clearly quite old, had no water and was filled with trash that was being removed while we were there. The 2nd outdoor pool is large and beautiful and was also not heated; a lot of hotels in France claim to have heated pools, but the reality is that they rely on the sun for the heat. (My pool at home is heated by a heater!) The third pool, indoors, was lovely, but small. My wife and i easily had room for laps as long as nobody else was in the pool simultaneously. The breakfasts were lovely. The dinners were terrific, but they were very subtle about offering an expensive cheese course: "Would you like some cheese?" When we complained about the huge charge that was never mentioned, they removed it from our bill. So be careful--unless you don't care. Bottom line, i suppose by the end of May one or both of the outdoor pools would be swimmable and remain so on nice days through early September. But not everyone swims.

How easy is driving in thecity and how is parking at the hotel?,
Answer from Miriam14

I would not recommend driving in Montpellier city. There is a fantastic, modern tram system. The trams are designed by Christian Lacroix and, apart from being stunning, are efficient and run to time. In the old part of the city, you would want to walk and explore the narrow streets. At the Domaine de Verchant, a member of staff meets you at the gate to park your car, away from the front of the hotel. There is plenty of parking space.
