We stayed here for 4 nights in late November. This was our first time to Koh Samet and after lengthy research, we decided on the Vongduean resort. One of the reasons for staying here was that they offered their own free transportation to and from the port on the mainland. We stayed in a Cottage room. Overall, the room was well appointed, and was very reasonable for the price. The resort is on a beautiful stretch of beach. The options for sun beds and umbrellas was quite limited, so you had to get up early if you wanted shade. The breakfast was ok only, nothing spectacular. At night, all of the resorts on the crescent shaped bay, including Vongduean, set tables on the sand for dinner complete with patio lights and a passable fire show. The food prices were fairly consistent across all the resorts, and those prices were high! There is a convenience store right on the beach, reached by turning left at the beach, which offered cheaper beer than the resort prices. Overall, the resort itself is ok, we don’t have any real complaints, but I don’t think we’d go back. We came here because we had never been to Koh Samet, and it was ok for a few days, but there just wasn’t that same magic that I find on so many other Thai islands. I don't think we would go back to Ko Samet, but if we did, I would not hesitate to stay at Vongdeuan again. It was clean, quiet, not crowded, and on a great stretch of beach.

The staff at the resort were really friendly, especially the maids. The resort itself could do with more upkeep; the grounds are full of dead leaves and don’t seem well cared for. Mosquitoes are a big problem. Our cottage was fine and spacious, with a large bathroom. Getting service in the restaurant was difficult as there were many large groups of Thai people. I waited 40 mins for a glass of wine and almost an hour for 1 grilled fish. Breakfast is either Thai rice soup (which is good) or a very low quality American breakfast of overcooked eggs and hotdogs etc. The pool has chairs but without pads so they are uncomfortable. Overall, Ko Samet does not really have a good price Vs quality ratio, so this resort was acceptable for this island.

The rooms were clean but for the price they were neglected and run down. Sinks were blocked constantly & would not drain so this attracted bugs and ants unnecessarily. Breakfast was satisfactory with little choice. The most disappointing part was the service and poor communication. Some of the staff were nice but a large majority seemed reluctant to help when asked a question. We left the hotel 2 hours before our boat was due to leave and was told to wait for a songtaew. After waiting for 1 hour it came but the Russian/Thai man managing the taxiing only let 8 people get on and there were just 2 of us left. We were then just told to wait for the next one when we clearly could have got the same songthaew (there was plenty of room). As we were now going to be late the hotel did nothing to help nor did they explain why we couldnt get the same sogthaew. We were clearly being ripped off but if the man had told us he would only take 8 people then we could have made other arrangements a lot earlier. This was obviously an agreement with the taxi drivers on how to make more money etc. The man just kept saying it was busy but there were empty taxis everywhere. We ended up having to pay 250 baht instead of 50 because no one else would pick us up. I am a regular to Samet but normally stay Tub Tim/Samed Villa side. The man was trying to treat us like naive tourists but we knew what was going on. We were optimistic and happy when we first arrived but on account of the service and attitude we definitely will not be returning to this hotel.

First, I chose Koh Samet because I asked a local Thailand friend which island has not been overdeveloped since my early days coming to Thailand in the 1990s. His response was "head to Koh Samet". I looked for a value hotel on one of the more southern, less developed beaches which led me to Wong Duean Bay and the Vongdeuan Resort.

The pool was a big draw. With the low tide being pretty extreme, it is really nice to have the salt water pool to cool off in and swim laps. The food seemed pretty authentic to me. With mainly Thai visitors coming in on the weekends it figures the food would be good at the Vongdeuan Resort. :) The staff were wonderful and always so fun to share a story or two with.

The beach area all along the bay was extremely clean with no plastic on the beach or garbage in the water. This is a big plus when going to the shore in SE Asian countries. There are several beach restaurants but none of them had loud music, at least during the weekdays when I was there. It is definitely a sleepy and peaceful place to enjoy the water at high tide as well as the white sand beach for walks.

This is a lovely little resort on the island of Koh samet. They ferry you over from the mainland in about 45 mins. All little wooden bungalow type rooms, quite authentic Thai but it had all the facilities needed. Lovely pool, and a fantastic beach with warm water. Plenty of restaurants along the beach or take a bus into the big beach area with lots more choice. It was a great few days.

This was our second visit to the hotel. First stayed in the cottage house and this visit we stayed in the Thai house. The Thai house was excellent. Good air conditioning, comfortable mattress and clean. The only gripe was the WiFi which wasn’t great.
Staff are friendly and the head waitress is particularly friendly, always pleasant and happy to see you. Great place for couples and families with children. Beech is lovely.
If it’s your first visit make sure you wear shorts and flip flops or similar. Don’t make the mistake of wearing trousers and shoes as some people do. You may have to wade through the water to get on shore from the little boat that brings you to shore.

This resort is right on amazing part of the beach. Villa’s are spacious and comfortable and are excellent value. Staff at resort are amazing including restaurant staff - nothing is too hard for them to do when it comes to looking after their guests. This is an amazing spot for couples, friends and excellent for families especially with young kids as sand is ultra soft and the beach is gorgeous. We have stayed for 3 nights but could have stayed longer as it’s totally relaxing and rejuvenating. Can’t wait to return

This was a great place to park my heels for a few nights to relax and hang out. It was easy to walk all over the island. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only bad thing, is that I wasn't aware of a fee to pay to get onto the island, so I was caught unaware until a German family paid for me (luckily they were staying at my hotel and i paid them back and breakfast). So make sure to have money BEFORE arriving on the island. The food at the hotel was great and worth staying to eat.

I went with my 35 month old boy.
It was nice that the resort had a single-family home that was quiet enough to not disturb other accommodations even if the child cried or sang.

The sea in front of the accommodation has a wide sandy beach that is great for swimming or playing in the sand. And if you go a little to the right, you can see many fish swimming between the stones, so the day passed very quickly.

The resort's policy of renting tubes and sand play equipment at the swimming pool made it convenient and enjoyable.

You can enjoy the essence of the beautiful Samet Island.

Additionally, the staff are really friendly.
I think they were the most friendly during my trip to Thailand.

They worked very hard to make our stay at the resort comfortable during the staff workshop and even invited us to a dinner party. It was an honor to be able to participate in the employees' fun time.

I will visit again when my child grows up.
Until then, stay happy everyone and see you again~~!!

A fabulous island get away for peace and quiet, crystal clear water and beautiful beaches. Getting there can be tricky. You need to get the boat from the resort office at Ban Pae Pier. You can take a bus, taxi or care to get there. It is 3 1/2 hours from Bangkok. The boat goes every 2 hours from 8 till 4 pm, - 8, 10, 12, 2, 4 pm.

I took the 5 island boat tour which you can book when you arrive either with the hotel or privately on the beach. I took my tour on a weekend and it was very overcrowded and probably the worst tour I have ever taken in my life. Perhaps it is slightly better mid-week.

Vongduan is in the middle of the island , so a 4 kilometer walk would bring you to the small town. Rent a motorbike for transport , the roads are quiet paved and safe.

Hi glb290, I'm not sure, but I find it hard to beleive they are all beachfront view. The resort should be able to answer your question better. From the Thai house you'll probably be able to view the sea 7 beach, but I would not call that actual beachfront. We stayed in standard bungalows, so I'm not 100% sure.
