Ao Prao Resort is often regarded as a charming retreat by guests, who rave about its tranquil atmosphere and well-appointed, clean rooms featuring plush bedding and sea views. While the resort's rates are considered steep by some, many feel the serene ambience and premium comforts justify the expense. The hotel's attentive staff, diverse dining, and tranquil beach contribute to the serene getaway experience, although service hiccups are occasionally mentioned. With its dedication to cleanliness and comfortable amenities, including live music, the resort is a popular choice for those seeking a relaxing escape.

This Hotel is rapidly becoming my Favourite.
This is the second time we have stayed here in the last month, and the reasons are obvious if you stay here.
The Hotel is very clean, and that includes Rooms, gardens and beach.
The staff are very friendly and attentive.
What I liked most was the cleanliness of the beach and water, the staff do a twice daily cleanup, and guests can assist too if they like.
The food variety is excellent and quality and size of dishes are good, albeit a little bit pricy, but worth it.
The stairs to some of the rooms can be a bit tiring, depends on age, but we stayed in 411 and 415 and access to facilities is OK.
The price of the stay includes the speedboat from the mainland, and minibus from Samet pier to the hotel and back again on departure. This saves a lot of time and money, so worth taking this.
We enjoyed it here so much I have booked again for my Birthday in February 21, and looking forward to that.
Keep up the good work, nice to see a hotel being so good after the long lockdown.

We’ve stayed a number of times at the sister hotel to Ao Prao, Paradee (which is terrific), but we wanted to try a different location on the island. Our main considerations were a room directly on the beach and a hotel with sustained good reviews. The Ao Prao did not disappoint on both counts. To begin, to a person all the staff are welcoming, friendly and responsive to any need. And who doesn’t enjoy being welcomed with the words “you’re our very special guests”!? The hotel is well maintained and has a relaxed and casual beach resort vibe. For us, the best aspect was the beach front cottage. The room is modern, well laid out and feels larger than its 35 sq meters. Out the door and it’s mere steps to the beach! The breakfast buffet is very well stocked, and the same open air restaurant serves lunch and dinner. And, on Friday nite there’s a lovely barbecue dinner with freshly grilled meats and fish. And, every night a talented duo provides musical entertainment. In keeping with the hotel’s vibe, the music is very relaxing and soulful. Definitely one of the most enjoyable musical entertainment experiences I’ve had at any hotel. Plus, they’re happy to take requests! One advantage of Ao Prao is that guests have full use of their sister hotel Le Vimarn - just along the beachfront. Here you can dine at either the Italian or Thai restaurants, and make use of the gym and spa. We tried the Italian restaurant, which was very good. And, the spa has excellent staff. The beach is not as expansive or secluded as at Paradee, but it’s a very nice beach with lovely sunsets. It’s also not so polluted as some of the reviews here represent. Yes, as with most Thai beaches, you’ll find some visitors have sadly left more than footprints, but on the whole the beachfront is well maintained. At water’s edge the beach can be quite rocky, so surf/water shoes might be a good idea for those not comfortable in rocky sand. For the more adventurous, kayak’s are available from the hotel beach activities area. There’s also outdoor massage available directly on the beach. We spent seven days at Ao Prao and enjoyed every moment. The hotel is well situated, it’s large enough to offer all the amenities you’ll likely need, yet still keeps an intimacy and smaller resort feel. We loved that the focal point of the entire place is the beach. Tho I should add that they feature two lovely pools as well. A Prao is a great choice on Koh Samet.

With limited time available and restrictions to long flights when looking options within a few hundred kilometers, the choice fell on Koh Samed. This time unlike on previous occasions I was looking for a more quiet, less busy side of the island and the choice fell on Ao Prao. The waters there are the cleanest on the island! the beach is combed twice a day, guests are invited to join the cleaning and I did so with much pleasure filling bags with plastic of any kind brought ashore by high tides. Such a fulfilling experience for me. The resort offers a wide variety of food choices, Thai of course, international cuisine but if found their Italian restaurant a big hit. I was particularly fond of the combination of gardens and cottages. The architecture with influences of Thai tradition and modernity shows so much taste and respect for sustainability yet it looks absolutely gorgeous. One can really go there and feel completely tucked away from the noise of the world. I am already looking forward to my next visit also because an amazing crew makes sure you are feeling taken care of with understated seamless service.

Quiet and clean beach on the west side of Koh Samet. There are only three resorts on Ao Prao Beach - Le Vimarn and Ao Prao Resorts are managed by the same company and CoCo Lima in between. Although it had a full occupancy during our stay, we never felt crowded/rushed. The resort is spacious and there are enough sun beds for everyone.

We were already checked in their own special pier - so smooth with transfers and our car, which was parked in the pier, was well looked after. Staff were very attentive, efficient and helpful.

Complimentary breakfast served a variety of international and Thai dishes - soup options were especially great. We had BBQ dinner, which was not bad, but not so impressive either. We also had one Italian dinner at "O" restaurant in Le Vimarn, which served very good pizza and risotto.

We got a deluxe hillside room. Probably because I asked for a quiet room, our room was at the end of the resort. It was a bit of climb, so in case you have a problem in mobility, it's better to get one of the beach cottages..

It was a pleasant stay and we will definitely go back.

We have just had the best week in Ao Prao resort. The beach is absolutely beautiful. The rooms were perfect ( we were in the hillside suite and in my opinion the best options because although it’s a small walk, it’s a little more private)
The staff were super friendly (not all of them have the best English language so we had a few hiccups with translating at times) but everyone went out of their way for us.
The food and drinks were expensive for Thailand but that said, it was tasty and plentiful. We often went to 7.eleven which is about a 30 minute walk to stock up on cheeper beers, and snacks! Cocktails were good but not excellent.
Breakfast was tasty and a good selection of Thai and Western and ran from 7.30 until 10.30.

We have stayed in Samet before but never have we had such a peaceful and great stay. Ao Prao is one of the more expensive resorts but I would say it was worth every penny. (Baht)
The boat transfer was comfortable and easy, so that was a nice bonus.
We were stopped on the other side of the island to ask for our National Park ticket. As the lady in previous reviews had said, make sure you have it available to prove you have paid. I think it should probably have been mentioned by the staff here.
I would certainly recommend this beautiful resort. We will be back!

I was taken to the island by a speed boat from Rayong and arrived at the island's port. Then, I was quickly taken to the resort through a private vehicle.

I got a beach villa where the sea was literally a few meters away. The villa was large enough for a couple, but I hoped that the bathroom sink would be cleaner. Just before sunrise on the next day, I was awaken by a loud sound coming from the ceiling. At first, I thought the sound was caused by cats running on a wooden ceiling, but it sound more like rats.

The breakfast was ok. It could improve. I also tried the nearby hotel's buffet breakfast (Le Vimarn), and it made no difference at all. I think the best part of the breakfast was having it on the beach where you could listen to the sound of the waves crashing. At night, I enjoyed the dinner while watching a spectacular fire dance.

For the price paid, I wish they could make some amenities free (or discounted) for the guests. I actually had to pay for the surf board. The check out was slow.

We have just spent three nights in Ao Prao Resort. This was our second stay with the previous being 2018.

On this occasion as per the previous we were picked up at the Pier and taken by fast boat to the island however on this visit we were delivered to the opposite side of the island and then transferred by Tuk Tuk Taxi to the resort.

The facilities including our room are the same. Lovely room, beautiful linen, great oceans views, daily free bottled water and great wifi (the wifi works everywhere in the resort including the beach).

Breakfast each morning was lovely whilst offering a limited choice of hot and cold options. I must say the options were far less than our previous visit.

Can I also say that whilst the staff were all very helpful and pleasant we did not get the same vibe on this occasion. At our previous visit a staff member would not walk past you without acknowledging you and offering that friendly Thai smile that was on offer every single time previously. At times it appeared an effort to acknowledge guests.

The pricing of food at the resort can be a little high and so we visited the opposite side of the island each night for dinner and ate lashings of food and drinks for a reasonable price. You will be required to pay a Tuk Tuk Taxi 200 baht each way for this travel.

Some of the water craft is free to use whilst others you are required to pay an hourly rate, unsure what given they do not require petrol to operate.

Sun lounges and towels are available and free on the beach to use as required whilst there are also two pools available for Ao Prao guest.

During our stay we were issued gloves each morning to assist at breakfast time and encouraged to wear a mask when in confined spaces/dining areas but not made to feel uncomfortable if you did not.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly visit the resort again.

I am not sure what Koh Samed was like pre-COVID but the island and Ao Prao Resort were absolutely lovely for a July long weekend. Everything from the arrival at the pier to arrival at the hotel went smoothly. It is a bit of an adventure to get to the hotel: drive to the pier, ferry to the island, songtaew (truck) to the hotel. The hotel clean and beautiful, and the staff courteous. The beach was lovely and the water amazing. My 2yo son had a blast in the ocean and in both of the available pools. The hotel is very family-friendly.

The food is fine, but nothing gourmet. My only complaint was there seemed to be no alcohol in any of the mixed drinks. My husband and I do not drink a lot, but even we could tell there was no extra oomph in our cocktails. In addition, food and drink are a bit expensive and there are no outside options close by.

While the hotel has lots of great room options, we recommend the beachfront cottage for full enjoyment of being at the beach.

Ao Prao resort is located on a lovely beach with clean sand and gorgeous swimming in the shallow waters. Rooms are large and well set up (we had no 306 overlooking the swimming pool and beach). There’s a choice of restaurants both in the Ao Prao hotel and neighbouring establishments. And there’s a lot of choice in the town, a 200 baht taxi ride away. Staff were fairly unobtrusive but friendly and helpful when asked. One minor quibble - I was surprised to have to pay 600 baht to take out a sea kayak. It wasn’t a big deal but when we were paying over £1,000 for 4 of us to stay it seems stingy. But overall, Ao Prao is the best option for a relaxed stay on Koh Samet

Hotel with a great sandy beach and super nice and competent staff.

The breakfast was delicious and there was enough choice. The prices at dinner are a little more expensive than outside, but still absolutely okay. On Fridays/Saturdays there is also a BBQ and a fire show. The Italian restaurant in the neighboring hotel was also very tasty.

The rooms are large and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable. There are 4x 600ml bottles of water free every day.

The hotel is on the slope! If you are not good on your feet or have problems with steps, be careful when booking the room category.

Hi the free of charge shuttle between AoPrao and the mainland Pier of the resort is here, Shuttle Boat Schedule From Ao Prao Pier :11AM / 1.30PM / 4PM From Ao Prao (Koh Samet) :10AM/ 12.30PM / 3PM but you can pay yourself and use other boats during 8am ad 6pm or the Samed Boat service, I think it was 2000THB on way.

Because you would be leaving outside of the complimentary motor boat transfer times you would have to pay for a private motor boat to take you from Ao Prao Resort to Rayong Beach (Ao Prao Pier). The manager at Ao Prao Resort could organise this for you or alternatively Samed Resorts could probably organise prior to your stay. I was quoted for a private motor boat transfer 2600-3000baht for two adults but not through Samed Resorts. A chauffeured standard car for 2 adults from Rayong Beach to Bangkok International would be 2800baht or executive car 3100 through orientalescape website

you can walk but i dont remember it being connected very well.. i took a public transport like an aut / tuk tuk and got off at the public beach and walked around there.. Ao prao is secluded and is very dark and quiet at night so would suggest coming back a little early in the evening if you plan to walk back.
