At The Journey Hostel you can wake up in the morning and decide for yourself whether you want to be Indiana Jones or Mr. Hasselhoff from Baywatch. Or both. A stone's throw from here you will find the UNESCO site and Lonely Planet highlight of Colombia TAYRONA PARK. Here you can either explore monkeys and birds in the dense jungle, or watch the picturesque beaches from underneath the palm trees. In the opposite direction from the hostel - a 15-minute bus ride away - you have the waterfalls CASCADA and VALENCIA to climb and swim in. But if you feel more like Garfield the cat we also have the perfect setting for chilled out days at The Journey Hostel. In the shades of thatched huts our staff provides you with cheap beers, snacks and home cooked meals. And you are never alone in our social areas. Inspired by a young Colombian architect's thoughts, this new hostel is still being developed. Having lived and studied in Canada, and travelled through of Central America, he knows the needs and joys of backpackers. You are invited to be a part of his dream in the making - whether you are Indiana Jones, Hasselhoff, Garfield or someone else. DIRECTIONS: From Santa Marta take a bus towards Palomino and ask to be dropped off at The Journey. It takes 40 minutes. From Palomino do it the other way around. Take a bus towards Santa Marta and jump off at The Journey. It takes 45 minutes.

Absolutely awesome hostel. Incredibly beautiful setting and super friendly staff! Social scene is low key nothing crazy but you are really there to go to the natural park which is just incredible. Highly recommend Journey Hostel!

Nice hostel. But the best activity we did was surfing. A good activity facilitated by the hostel but especially the surf instructor was great. A professional and kind guy with lots of experience. Highly recommended.

Stayed at the Journey for 3 nights and it was truly an experience I will never forget. The moment I arrived all the staff were so welcoming and the views spectacular. They have an extensive list of delicious cocktails, beers and soft drinks and the food is the best I’ve seen on my travels so far (they even have an English breakfast!). The place was clean, the beds comfy and they offer so many tours you will never run out of things to do at a reasonable price. I wanted to stay an extra night but as they were full I opted in to sleep in one of the hammocks, which I thought was a great addition for those that just don’t want to leave! I would highly recommend this hostel to solo/group travellers wanting to meet others (the family style dinner is a fab idea to bring people together) and couples for a romantic scenic get away.…

Amazing stay at this hostel. Really good food, lovely setting, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. We also had a great tour with Joith to a local indigenous village. It was a cool experience, Joith is very knowledgeable and very interesting to talk to. His English is also really good! Would definitely recommend him for tours (I believe he does many other tours as well). His Instagram is @hasbeth_centeno if you are interested :)

I left a medically prescribed toothbrush in a case in the bathroom whilst I went on a tour, early in the morning before the cleaners had done the morning clean. I went back afterwards and it was gone - the staff say it is mysteriously nowhere to be seen and that another traveller must have ‘picked it up by mistake’, which I personally don’t believe to be true but what can you do…. If you are staying at your hostel, don’t trust anybody apparently and watch out for your stuff. The hostel itself (communal areas / stairs / bathrooms) are also pretty grubby and run down whixh I didn’t expect given this hostel had been recommended so highly. Overall - very disappointing.

What a lovely place with great views and great food. The Bar staff (Irish guy, cocktail guy and American woman) were so friendly and welcoming. The only draw back is that the private room is literally 3 feet from the pool. So at night we couldn't sleep till 12 o'clock as there were guys at the pool playing music. Apart from that. It would have been 5 star. Its just alot of money on a single room to be wasted by the location. Thank you so much for the rest of it though!!!

The hostel has incredible views, if you are looking for a place to relax it is. If you are looking for a party hostel this is not it, even having a drink is complicated after 11 pm because they rent some beds in the middle of the social area so it is impossible to have a beer and talk.

I loved my stay at Journey hostel. The location is perfect; there are several beautiful remote beaches nearby and a few local surf spots. On the way to the beach you can spot several different types of monkeys only minutes from the hostel. The place itself is beautifully constructed by bamboo and woven palm fronds. The hostel blends nicely into the mountainside and provided incredible views. The food is amazing and the staff is friendly and helpful. They were always willing to help in any way possible. I would recommend this place to anyone!

It's a really nice hostel, the dorms are open and the view is great. There's contact with nature, but keep in mind that you're by the highway. Location is good for going to tayrona and doing some hikes nearby. On the site they warn you that you might be without internet, but they don't mention that the hostel has energy problems as well. During four days, twice without power, one time over half a day. Bring cash because you might not be able to use credit card without power, also they charge extra 6% for that which they told me only in check out. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but some new people were learning, so one of the staff sold me four drinks on happy hour and I ended up paying all of them instead of two, which turned out quite expensive. Food is great.

Response from Journey H, Owner at The Journey Hostel
Responded 22 Jan 2020
Dear Guest. Thank you very much for staying with us and for taking the time to review. We take your criticism seriously and are thankful for the opportunity to answer to it. Unfortunately, December 2019 has been really windy and the whole region has been fighting with power cuts. It is definitely our goal to invest into a better electricity generator in the near future. We would like to excuse for any inconveniences this might have caused you. You are right, we should definitely inform our customers right away about the 6% credit card charge. We will implement this immediately and take all the relevant, internal measures. We are sorry that you were not charged the happy hour prices, that is not acceptable. If you addressed this right away with our receptionist, I am sure that a solution would have been provided. We hope to see you soon again The Journey Hostel and wish you an awesome week.

This place was really cool even though its under construction. I stayed here in a private room in November with my boyfriend. The room was like a treehouse hut style with a private bathroom. The rooms from the room were 10/10. The food was awesome, every night was a different home cooked meal. The staff and volunteers were always so helpful & friendly. You could literally walk to the main entrance to Tayrona from the hostel, its pretty close. 20 minutes tops. The bus stops here if you hail it every 20 minutes or so. If you go to Tayrona, make sure you book the Journey Hostel! You can catch the bus to Palomino as well, its very easy andcheap
