A Stanthorpe Getaway is situated in the heart of Ballandean, just 15min south of Stanthorpe. We are in the heart of granite belt wine country with unrivalled views across St Judes Vineyard. There are 5 choices of accommodation across the property. Our unique state of the art 12 sided yurt 'Altai' is our newest listing, sleeping up to 6. James Farmhouse is perfect for large family gatherings sleeping up the 14. Our Rose Cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway and our Zuny & Namar yurts sleep up to 4 people each and are great for those quick family getaways. Here on the granite belt you’ll see beautiful Australian countryside: rocky cliffs, eucalypt forests, vineyards and golden crops. You may even see the kangaroos and parrots during the crisp early mornings. Ballandean is Queensland’s premier wine region with over 50 vineyards, many of which offer cellar doors open to the public. You’ll get to sample great wines complemented by excellent cuisine and stunning views. Don't forget the local boutique breweries, cheese factory, maze, Christmas farm, chocolate shop as well as national parks and storm king dam!

Detailed Reviews
I can highly recommend James Farmhouse as an ideal location for a winter family getaway. This is the second time we’ve stayed here and the facilities have improved under new ownership of Kirsten and Mark . The house is spacious, warm and cosy and very comfortable for our family of nine and could easily handle more. The fireplaces in the lounge area and dining room add to the country atmosphere and the outdoor facilities are ideal as well. The accommodation made our four night stay a very pleasant and memorable trip.

James Farmhouse is an old home with plenty of room and some creature comforts. The wood fireplace saw use as 4 couples enjoyed a cool long weekend. Ample room in the lounge and dining. Nice gardens. The house had 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets and a meals table in the kitchen meant chats whilst meals were cooked. Rear drinks area. Walk to the tavern or shop. Both basic but you could get a meal (book on weekends).

We stayed in Namar Yurt for 2 nights. Beautiful fixtures and fittings, immaculate presentation and great position near many vineyards. Great touches like firewood and locally made soap. Highly recommended.

We booked Jame’s yurt at Ballandean. When we arrived we were very disappointed. The yurt overlooked the highway. The grounds were terrible. Also no one was at the site. I rang the number 6 times which went straight to voicemail. When James did call back we were told he had double booked. With no apology or any help to find other accommodation. This time of year the area is booked solid. Luckily we found Wisteria Cottages. The lady was fantastic. These cottages were warm overlooking a paddock with kangaroos and dairy cows. In the end all things worked out for the best.

Hi John. I'm disappointed to read your review. The property is now under new management with a much more streamlined booking system to avoid situations such as this. We do hope you reconsider staying with us if you're ever visiting the region. Warm regards, Kirsten and Mark.

Our plans changed and we ended up unexpectedly in Ballandean with no accommodation. Internet showed no availability for one night. Thankfully the owner let us stay! Great self-contained yurt with our own wood heater all laid ready. And one of the best pub meals I’ve had is just a 3 minute walk away!

James' Farmhouse & Cottage has 2 accommodation options, a larger farmhouse for groups and a cottage for couples.
We have previously stayed in the Farmhouse, but this time gave the Rose Cottage a try.
The cottage is pretty rustic and is really one big room with a separate bathroom. There is a good kitchen, with a gas cooktop, fridge and microwave, but no oven. There are enough appliances, crockery & cutlery to whip up a pretty decent dinner. The rate also includes a very generous breakfast hamper, which will look after at least one breakfast for two.
There is an open fire, which is great in winter and there is plenty of firewood supplied. You will need to get it going to keep the place warm. There is also a TV, dvd player and a video. The cottage has a couple of comfy chairs to sit in, but a no couch (which would be better).
Its a good place for a relaxing weekend, however it is a fairly basic cottage. So long as you aren't expecting luxurious surroundings, then you'll be fine.
The only real downside to the cottage is that its literally only a couple of metres from the larger farmhouse. So if the group in the farmhouse is a bit noisy, you'll definitely hear it. Its not exactly the most private place to stay, just because you are so close to the farmhouse.

We thank you for your comments This must be an old review Breakfast is no longer supplied due to rising costs and we wanted to keep the price the same The cottage now has a couch The Cottage is about 3 meters from the Farmhouse Kitchen To date we have had no complaints about noise as the main Farmhouse area i.e lounge and dinning room is at the other end of the Farmhouse 20 meters away There is now a new Pub 3 Min's walk Cheers James

We stayed here with our 6 month old daughter in the Rose Cottage. This accommodation would suit a couple, however with a baby it did feel cramped. The accommodation was clean and was well catered.
However, of concern is the fact the SMOKE ALARM DID NOT WORK AND THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER IS OUT OF DATE BY 14 YEARS!!!!
The couch also needs replacing as one of the legs is broken!
The gas stove was modern and the kitchen well stocked with utensils and modern white goods.
The accommodation is in a perfect location to the amazing Ballandean Estate and Barrell Room restaurant, Girraween National Park and close proximity to Stanthorpe.
We were annoyed that for such basic accommodation, the price was comparable with other options in the area that appeared to present with better facilities.
We were fortunate there were no other guests at the farmhouse so we had the place to ourselves, as both properties are right next to each other which would impact on privacy.
The fireplace was clean and although there was a heater provided, it was too small to provide any necessary warmth.
I found James difficult to deal with (communication was via email) and he only confirmed and provided receipt of payment after I asked.

We stayed at the rose cottage for 2 nights and it was perfect for my husband and I and our 22 month old son..( we took a portacot) it is only metres from the farmhouse, but don't let this stop you from booking if your after cheap accommodation in the heart of the wineries.. It has everything you need( except an oven) but you don't need an oven when you have amazing restaurants at your doorstep.. I don't recommend the cottage if your after a 5 star cottage.. It is what it is and for the price I give it 5 stars.. We will return..

For the 2nd year running we rented this beautiful old quirky farmhouse. There were 11 of us. We never felt like we were in rented digs and all had space to ourselves. All the charms of grandmas house. Piano in the family room, fireplaces in family and dining, a fully equipped kitchen and a couple of bathrooms and kangaroos and bunnies hopping around the back lawn. You can feel the love of family this farm house has shared over the decades.
