A Stanthorpe Getaway is situated in the heart of Ballandean, just 15min south of Stanthorpe. We are in the heart of granite belt wine country with unrivalled views across St Judes Vineyard. There are 5 choices of accommodation across the property. Our unique state of the art 12 sided yurt 'Altai' is our newest listing, sleeping up to 6. James Farmhouse is perfect for large family gatherings sleeping up the 14. Our Rose Cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway and our Zuny & Namar yurts sleep up to 4 people each and are great for those quick family getaways. Here on the granite belt you’ll see beautiful Australian countryside: rocky cliffs, eucalypt forests, vineyards and golden crops. You may even see the kangaroos and parrots during the crisp early mornings. Ballandean is Queensland’s premier wine region with over 50 vineyards, many of which offer cellar doors open to the public. You’ll get to sample great wines complemented by excellent cuisine and stunning views. Don't forget the local boutique breweries, cheese factory, maze, Christmas farm, chocolate shop as well as national parks and storm king dam!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I can highly recommend James Farmhouse as an ideal location for a winter family getaway. This is the second time we’ve stayed here and the facilities have improved under new ownership of Kirsten and Mark . The house is spacious, warm and cosy and very comfortable for our family of nine and could easily handle more. The fireplaces in the lounge area and dining room add to the country atmosphere and the outdoor facilities are ideal as well. The accommodation made our four night stay a very pleasant and memorable trip.

We booked Jame’s yurt at Ballandean. When we arrived we were very disappointed. The yurt overlooked the highway. The grounds were terrible. Also no one was at the site. I rang the number 6 times which went straight to voicemail. When James did call back we were told he had double booked. With no apology or any help to find other accommodation. This time of year the area is booked solid. Luckily we found Wisteria Cottages. The lady was fantastic. These cottages were warm overlooking a paddock with kangaroos and dairy cows. In the end all things worked out for the best.

Hi John. I'm disappointed to read your review. The property is now under new management with a much more streamlined booking system to avoid situations such as this. We do hope you reconsider staying with us if you're ever visiting the region. Warm regards, Kirsten and Mark.

We stayed at James’ farmhouse at the end of September for 5 nights. There was plenty of room for our party of 4 couples. 4 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets, a very large sitting room with log fire, and a separate dining room and well equipped kitchen. Outside is a barbecue and seating area with great views of the surrounding countryside and wildlife. The property is a fifteen minute drive to Stanthorpe where there are shops aplenty, and a short drive to lots and lots of very good wineries, cheese makers, and a local microbrewery. The owners not only have the farmhouse, they’ve got a couple of Yurts to rent too. We’ll certainly be going back on our next visit to Australia.

We booked the cottage for a weekend with our toddler . The place was cosy , clean and well presented. The bed was comfy and clean linen and towels were provided. It's ideal for couples but can accommodate a small child . We carried extra bedding for our daughter . There was plenty of firewood provided kept us warm . It was conveniently located to the places we wanted to visit . The kitchen had all the essentials for whipping up a meal , there was no oven . We enjoyed it and would totally recommend.

For the 2nd year running we rented this beautiful old quirky farmhouse. There were 11 of us. We never felt like we were in rented digs and all had space to ourselves. All the charms of grandmas house. Piano in the family room, fireplaces in family and dining, a fully equipped kitchen and a couple of bathrooms and kangaroos and bunnies hopping around the back lawn. You can feel the love of family this farm house has shared over the decades.

8 of us stayed and had a Christmas in July weekend - everything you could need was in the kitchen. Plenty of room, fireplaces kept the house nice and warm. Large lounge room for relaxing - dinner table sat 8 of us very easily. Fireplace also in dining room which was great.

Eleven of us had a great five nights here. We found the accommodation to be very adequate for all of us. The two bathrooms worked well as one of us needed a shower that she could just step into, it would work well as a shower for a disabled person. We found that the fire-places in the living room and dining room created a cosy warm and relaxing environment too seat and enjoy a glass or two of locally bought red wine. We received an added bonus when it snowed during the last night of our stay. We enjoyed visiting the local wineries and having meals at some great restaurants.

The quirky farmhouse housed four couples very comfortably and in fact we could of brought all our children too. There are beds, bathrooms, lounges, plates, cutlery, platters linen to cater for a crowd. Very clean! Good fireplaces with wood cut. Don't expect five star but certainly a fun place to be.
