Travelled from Rannoch to Mallaig on the train and had an hour or two to spend before the run back. The steam Inn has a great seafood menu board outside, however I fancied something more traditional. Haddock in breadcrumbs and oatmeal was to die for.

There were six of us for dinner. 2 had mussels which were excellent, 2 had haggis which they said was lovely, 1 had langoustine which she described as ok. I had prawn cocktail which was very tasty. The six of us had haddock and chips which was very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Stayed for one night. In a single room, a REAL single room, with just enough room to swing a cat. No breakfast but coco pops supplied in your tray. Comfortable bed, clean, nice shower room, mini fridge with milk in it, nice tea tray, and nice and cosy against the weather. But very very noisy as the bathroom next door...

Excellent room with an enormous bed and white linen. Everything you need. There was also a beautiful on-suite bathroom. Well priced. No breakfast but cereal included if you want it. Very comfortable. Highly recommended.

The scallop starter was very good, things went downhill from there. Staff were surly, main course took over 25minutes to arrive. I ordered fish and chips. The chips were not fully cooked, the fish was over cooked and tasted burnt fat. My friend ordered steak to be cooked medium,it came rare and cold. Looked like a steak cooked from frozen....

We arrived late on a cold, rainy night after a very long train journey. The late arrival time was no problem, the bar maid showed us to our room and what we found was such a delight. A warm room with a big, very comfortable bed. And after a long good sleep there was milk and cereals for breakfast, although...

This was not a place with a terrific view but it did indeed have very good food. Service was hurried but efficient and accurate. Good place for lunch off the train and worth trying if you have a leisurely evening stay. We had mussels and specials which were terrific. Sticky Toffee pudding was okay.

No matter which of these is your priority, you certainly won't come away from The Steam Inn disappointed. No matter how often I visit this first class establishment, I never find fault; whether it be with meals, drinks, accommodation or anything else. In fact I can thoroughly recommend The Steam Inn to ANYONE with total confidence. That is why I...

Stayed in room 2 with a sea view, great hot shower and appreciated the cocopops and cafetiere in the morning. Very clean and nice service all round, thanks! As with a lot of small old hotels, sound proofing isn't great but ear plugs are provided so I would say that this is still a very good deal.
