The Wheatsheaf is a traditional, family run inn set in the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Walker and dog friendly, the Wheatsheaf is on a spectacular walking route between the historic Bolton Castle (where Mary Queen of Scots was kept captive in 1568)and the world famous Aysgarth Falls. The Wheatsheaf was also where Alf White (more famously known as the vet and author James Herriot) and his wife had their honeymoon in 1941. Featuring real ales, log fires, and good food, the Wheatsheaf prides itself on its welcoming atmosphere.

Stayed in the self catering apartment from the 17-23 of April with social distancing check in and out due to COVID-19 restrictions. We’ve been here lots of times now and is a true gem. Both Claire and Emily are fantastic hosts here, with nothing ever being too much trouble, doesn’t matter if you just pop in for a coffee, lunch, dinner or if you are staying overnight, you will all be treated amazingly well. Closed at the moment apart from self catering and is due to reopen with i’d imagine some COVID restrictions still in place on the 17th of May. Fantastic location, great for walkers with some great walks right on your doorstep, 15 minute drive to Hawes, Leyburn, 30 minutes from Richmond or Northallerton and markets galore where you can pick up just about anything. We find the Wheatsheaf absolutely faultless, great food and drinks at very reasonable prices as are the rooms which are always very clean and tidy, great staff who are very knowledgeable of the area and are very willing to help if you have any questions on things to do or directions etc. Looking forward to going back on the 21st of June when I can meet up with all the staff again and that friendly welcome, not to mention a very nice Black Sheep Beer. If you book the Wheatsheaf for your stay, you will not be disappointed. As always on my posts, any questions, queries, please feel free to ask and we will answer you as best as we can. Enjoy your stay....... Robert & Elaine

Lovely clean room with an amazing shower. The staff were so friendly to us and our dog and the food was excellent. The pub was quiet nudes night as was the village so we slept so well. The area is beautiful and we can't wait to come back!

This place is so good I had to say it 3 times in the title . What an absolute gem. We have just returned from a 2 night stay here and it was faultless from start to finish. We stayed in the annex, a beautiful little place perfect for us and our little dog. The atmosphere inside the wheatsheaf was just what we were looking for .Cosy, homely and with staff that really made you feel as if you were part of the family. Emily is fantastic and couldn't do enough to make sure you were happy (as did all the staff we came across.) And her children (that came to play with my daughter ) are a credit to her .Sitting by the fire with a drink in hand was just perfect . We are already looking at rebooking and bringing other members of our family here. Highly highly recommend this beautiful gem of a property situated in a perfect location for exploring the beauty of the Yorkshire dales

After a great walk to and through Aysgarth falls we called in here for lunch and a drink. Great staff, great menu to choose from Inc Sandwiches to full lunches. The food was served hot, well presented and in a safe environment. Would definitely reccomend a stop off here.
