We're just back from a great 2 night stay here. Due to being the low/quiet season there was some renovations taking place but we were placed in a room far away so did not hear any disturbances. The manager personally came up to apologise for this and was helpful in suggesting places for us to visit. The room itself was...

Stayed here 2 nights. Very enjoyable and relaxing. If you are going to Skellig Michael, this is really the only option. The town is only about 2 blocks long, but very picturesque. It seems that the bar is the social center for the area. On Friday nite there was a band, a lot of locals doing set dancing, which was...

We stayed in this lovely hotel. We weren't disappointed. Our room was warm, spacious, and clean. Which made for a lovely relaxing stay. Everything was spotless. After spending a few days searching for a way to visit Skellig Michael we were starting to get worried that we wouldn't be able to book a landing tour to the island. We were having difficulty contacting boat operators, so we got in touch with The Moorings Guesthouse to see if they could arrange a landing tour for us--they were...

The Moorings is a perfect spot to spend a couple of nights while touring the ring of Kerry and its many historical sites. A lovely seaside spot. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is helpful (albeit a little more reserved than I am used to in Ireland). The food was very good - had dinner in the...

Well kept guest house with an indoor restaurant. The rooms overlook the harbour and are well appointed. Staff is quite reserved but helpful. An evening stroll let us soak in the local atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Loved it here! Stayed with my husband and teenage son, we all really enjoyed it. The accommodation was fabulous - warm, quiet and comfortable. We stayed 2 nights and ate there both nights, food was delicious and breakfast was also worth getting out of bed for! Views were stunning, staff were very helpful and pleasant. Highly recommend a stay here.

I got suckered in to the Star Wars excitement when booking my stay here. I was pleasantly surprised by the local atmosphere, kind staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Such a great location, right on the water front. I was more than pleased with my stay!

Days after our visit Lonely Planet gave top listing to the lesser known top of the Ring of Skellig!!! Big news for the small town of Portmagee and the Moorings Hotel which is very much a focal point. Typically the hotel staff are almost all from Europe the place very much serves as a local "pub" with rooms. Decent, slightly...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled into the picturesque seafront of Portmagee, the Moorings Guesthouse overlooks the village's busy working harbour. Just a 30 second walk from the pier, where boats leave for the Skelligs every morning, and right at the heart of village life, there's simply nowhere more convenient to base yourself when you stay in Portmagee. Offering 16 rooms in total, the owners have created a calm and surprisingly luxurious ambience through the use of traditional yet contemporary furnishings with crisp, clean lines of soft ivory against vibrant reds. The Moorings strive to deliver personal, attentive service while matching the very best standards in efficiency and attention to detail that you've encountered elsewhere. Room facilities include direct-dial telephone, satellite TV, tea- and coffee-making facilities, iron and ironing board, ensuite marble bathroom with power shower, bath, hairdryer and Gilchrest & Soames toiletries. Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access is available throughout the guesthouse and there is free car parking for guests. There's nothing more endearing than knowing that some of the Hollywood's biggest movie stars like Mark Hamill and Director J.J Abrams have visited the sleepy village of Portmagee, and even sat in the Bridge Bar local pub where Mark Hamill poured a pint of Guinness behind the bar. The Moorings was home to the pre-production team of the Star Wars VII movie and you can visit the room where all the magic took place and listen to the stories told by the staff. The Moorings is open all year round. Great food served all day with traditional music at weekends. Trips to Skellig Michael can be arranged and packages are available from April to September. Cois Cuain gift shop is open from March to January. The Moorings is located in a fishing village with a working harbour, post office, general store, coffee shop, bar, restaurant overlooking Valentia Island. The Moorings received a platinum award for green hospitality in 2013. They have introduced a 'Green' package which offers two nights B&B in The Moorings Guesthouse, a guide to a wildlife shore search and a special '30 mile' menu where all main ingredients are sourced within a 30 mile radius. ... more   less
