Detailed Reviews
We spent three nights in this medium sized hotel. Although the 150 year old building is a little tired, we found it spotlessly clean and quiet in a good suburb of Melbourne. Our room was a good size with a small but adequate en suite. Breakfast was a fairly basic, self service affair but we found it a welcome start to the day. The location is well served by trains to nearby East Richmond Station and the excellent Melbourne trams. We found all staff friendly and helpful and would have no hesitation in staying here in the future.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I booked this, being a low price and an exceptional location. The room itself was small, but as I found it had all I needed, the bed was comfortable, the temperature was just right, and the hotel itself was quiet. The showers and toilet I used were acceptable. Reception was quite nice on check-in & checkout, and even showed me to my room which was helpful.
The included breakfast was really nice, staff were also kind enough to allow me to finish my coffee after breakfast and use some wifi before leaving for the train station. If I ever wanted to stay in Richmond again inexpensively, this would be the way to go.

We only stayed one night here at the Richmond Hill Hotel, it is in a great locatian close to the city and entertainment facilities such as Rod Laver Arena all by tram.
We were up graded to the 2 bedroom unit, this has a kitchenette and plenty of space.
Beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean, obviously the age is a factor but part of the charm. Lovely dining area and great breakfast. It is a shame it is closing in the middle of the year, staff very friendly and we would recommend if you wanted a good priced room close to the city.

My wife and I have travelled several countries in Europe and have stayed in quite our fair share of hotels and we have to say that Richmond Hill hotel by far is the best one we’ve stayed at! A huge thanks goes out to Anna, Eli, Michela, Husna and especially Jea in front office, Yvonne who oversaw our reservations and a the bar, restaurant and house keeping was fantastic! We will definitely come again when we are back in London.

We stayed for 4 nites and the hotel suited our needs well. We love to walk and the Botanic garden was an easy 20 minute walk and downtown was about 45-60 min. Public transportation was also easy to access. This is an older hotel with a quirky layout, but our ensuite room was clean and comfortable. We had a room in the back and except for construction work on a neighboring builiding - was very quiet. The included breakfast was above average and the staff was very helpful and well equipped to answer most questions. Would stay again - for sure.

Stayed in room 68 -- on the corner of the hotel. Accommodations are sparse, not at all as described in Fodors book. Windows were broken and would not close all the way. Had to carry rollboards up several sets of stairs -- there is no elevator. The emergency exit door beside our room was broken and wouldn't shut, which made us feel very unsafe. Not enough parking. Felt like a hostel, not a hotel, but cost $180 a night (normally $120 but was more expensive during the Australian Open). Should have had basics such as a bar of soap, bath mat and wash cloths rather than only 2 bath towels and squeeze soap/shampoo inside the shower. The breakfast in the morning, while lots of items, was NOT good.

Really clean, good pricing, fantastic location, really good breakfast- definitely stay here again especially with the location being close to Epworth Hospital. Staff were friendly and helpful. Shared bathroom might put some folks off however it’s really clear on booking.

This place is an interesting find for us. Located in the centre of Richmond, a beautiful looking old Victorian hotel. The desk staff are lovely and by all accounts friendly and helpful. The hotel is a very simple one; some rooms have ensuites, other have a shared bath room. It’s Melbourne on a budget I suppose. The rooms are small but adequate and have everything you need. The common areas of the hotel are really the appeal of this place. If you can score a second storey room with balcony that would be a plus but I believe they are either family sized room (multiple beds?) or have only a shared bathroom. The breakfast is simple self serve but late than adequate to meet most needs. There’s also a nice quiet garden out the back which we discovered on our last day. We expect to be regular visitors to Melbourne and would stay here again.
