An excellent town to stay and the Bear Hotel could not be faulted. Very friendly, polite and well informed staff in an hotel with character, immaculately maintained and in a great position for exploring the South Wales coast. Very good value all round.

My family and I stayed here for the weekend of my wedding at Castle Coch. It was perfect from start to finish, staff were incredible and we were made to feel very relaxed and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

a very good experience in a well run, immaculately presented and surprisingly well and sympathetically extended and modernised traditional country hotel offering all modern conveniences in a central village location

What a great visit. A quietish night was transformed by the team here. Excellence is a byproduct. I could not ask for more. I'd recommend the Peroni and the steak is exquisite. Football ✅ Beer ✅ Service ✅ Thanks Asha and all those behind the scenes!

We stayed at cider house aptmt which was nice and big. The negatives were ; toilet loose and bad condition, bad cigarettes smell throughout but especially on entry to building, wifi was a hassle to get and I felt everything needed a good freshen up. The positives; great power shower, light and airy great heating , spacious, good beds, wonderful...

First visit to this hotel in Wales. We spent two nights here before moving on to the Vale Resort for a wedding. The reception and hotel staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Our room in the upstairs section at the rear was spacious, light and well furnished and decorated. Only negatives were the bathroom floor had...

The Bear has a mixture of the traditional and the modern blended together which makes for a pleasant stay. I stayed in the rear accommodation on the first floor, the corridor faces the large free carpark. My room overlooked the courtyard which has a large seating area and a smaller seating area attached to it this was a pleasant suntrap....

Stayed here for my brothers wedding. All staff were amazing. They made sure everything was catered for. The food was out of this world and all credit to the chefs. They have a lovely courtyard and as the sun was shining it's great to sit out here and relax. It's very quiet. The rooms are of a good standard and...

This hotel is in a great location in Cowbrige, a lovelyWelsh town. The rooms are clean and tidy, good shower, OK TV and comfy bed. The restaurant is particularly nice in what appears like an old converted barn. Evening dinner and breakfast were excellent and staff were friendly and efficient. Car parking is available at the rear of the hotel...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
