What a little gem! We spent 2 nights here. Fantastic room, friendly welcoming staff. The hidden caves at the back are amazing! A hotel full of history which has been furnished in keeping with its history. Highly recommend. We even had the cost of parking in the nearby car park refunded as the hotel only has a few spaces available!... More

Had a lovely couple of nights at Hodgkinson's last weekend. Great warm welcome when we arrived late on Friday evening after a slow journey up. Very comfortable room, beautifully decorated and furnished. Excellent breakfast with some of the best black pudding I have ever eaten. Parking is limited, but plenty of on street space too - except when the Matlock... More

We stayed for 2 nights as a base for exploring the area and what a find. Lovely hotel, charming staff, very friendly hosts, superb food - both in the evening and breakfast. The room was lovely and had everything you needed. Can't fault it and would love to return. Ask to see the caves too - wow!

Had a one night stay there recently to celebrate a birthday. What a lovely hotel, beautifully decorated and furnished, it did feel like stepping back in time. A very wide choice was on offer at breakfast which was delicious. The hosts were charming, friendly and helpful. There are plenty of interesting things to do in the area including Arkwright's Mill... My wife and I stayed for five nights half-board on a late-summer break in September 2016 and we enjoyed it very much. The hotel dates back to the 1770s but has been thoughtfully modernised in facilities without changing the character. The food is really quite exceptional – I would single out the full English breakfast but really every meal we... More

Wow! What a journey back in time. The hotel is Victorian in every way. The bar, restaurant, bedrooms & bathrooms are just a joy to see. The artifacts placed around the hotel are museum pieces & the caves/terrace garden adjoined to the rear of the hotel are incredible! The staff are super friendly & the food is exceptional. The hotel... More

I selected Matlock Bath on a hunch, lured by the Google photos and that Matlock was mentioned in Pride and Prejudice. I was charmed by this quaint little town and the hotel. First up, Hodgkinson is not a hotel for everyone, especially if you are into ultra modern, sleek design or spotless carpet. But if you love history, English charm... More

We visited the Hodgkinsons Hotel a couple of weeks ago but were unable to book a room so just dined there in the evening. What a fantastic place. Greeted by the most helpful, pleasant, funny and professional staff. We have a wonderful tasty meal and wine in a great atmosphere. The hotel has many original features and the staff are... More

This quirky hotel is beautifully decorated with great attention to detail and some stunning furniture. The owner, Chris, was welcoming and informative and our room very comfortable with an excellent selection of teas and coffees. Unfortunately as it was a Sunday evening the restaurant was closed and on the following evening we would have been the only couple dining which... More

Hotel is very quirky, clean, comfortable and well fitted out with everything you could need. The owners and staff are very friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful with an excellent local knowledge of the area and gave us lots of tips and advice on where to visit. The jewel in the crown though has to be the food, if you are... More
