The hotel has direct access to all the facilities of the Bella Italia campsite which has 4- swimming pools and a range of entertainment including kids camps for kids up to the age of 11..
The rooms are serviced daily and there are a good range of restaurants on site with many more within walking diastance outside the complex.
The staff are very nice and all are very very kind.We would definitely come back as we had great fun.
staff: first and foremost - the main reason for posting our first ever review - is to say what lovely staff the hotel has. everyone was extremely friendly. we wanted to thank in particular florian (on reception) who spent hours on the phone on our behalf when our car broke down and we were struggling to get a replacement (he sorted it out in the end thankfully - we would have really struggled otherwise) and primula in the restaurant, who - after telling her what poached eggs were on our first day - made sure they arrived for "the egg man" every morning at breakfast without us asking. lovely people throughout the hotel
rooms: we had adjoining double rooms for a family of 4 looking out over the pool. both were a good size and had balconies / large en suite bathrooms / small fridges / tea/coffee making stuff so were almost like a small apartment. no (entertainment based) english tv though. ask to overlook the pool if you can (the opposite side would overlook the car park I think - may have been some on the side but not sure). rooms were v comfortable, great aircon and extremely clean (serviced every day).
pretty sure there were blackout blinds / curtains or equivalent and useful hangers to dry clothes on the balconies where you could also store inflatables etc. the balconies are not separate - they run in strips along the hotel with each balcony screened off from the next one by plants. we rarely found ourselves on the balcony at the same time as our neighbours and it would not bother us anyway but it might not suit some
food: good selection at breakfast (mostly continental but they could do eggs) and the pool restaurant was ok - though it becomes expensive if you are eating lunch there every day (always the temptation if you are by the pool). the more formal restaurant overlooking the pool was decent though the first one you pass on the left as you walk into the camp site was v poor - we had fabulous pizzas and pastas throughout the area during our stay but not there.
pool: the pool was super - very family friendly (figure of 8 with shallow end and deeper end) so younger and older kids are not on top of each other and we didn't ever have a problem getting sunbeds even in early july. there was always a lifeguard (during the manned hours) and they were good at keeping an eye on beds and helping generally. have a vague recollection that the pool closed earlyish (maybe 8?) but can't remember details so check if it's important to you
unlike some other places we stayed during this holiday, inflatables/balls were permitted and it was very relaxed. there is also waiter service round the pool - very civilised! we stayed in 4 different places during this holiday and the BI hotel pool was far and away the best overall.
location: you get a wristband to show that you are entitled to use the campsite facilties. to get to the campsite, you just follow the path at one end of the pool, back round past the restaurant and round the back of the pool and apartments - no barriers or security to negotiate, v simple to wander about.
it's just a couple of minutes walk to the main bella italia camp site pools. they have chutes and slides galore but are exceptionally busy and there is no chance of getting a sunbed there unless you join the rush as soon as they open (there is a hilarious video on youtube somewhere of the morning dash!).
we wandered over once in the afternoon but our kids much preferred the hotel pool as the campsite pools were so crowded. if you decide to visit and are not making a day of it, best to walk over in swimsuits and just take a towel to pop in a corner somewhere without having to worry about valuables
location: the hotel is in the corner of the camp site with a separate entrance and car park. it's about 5 mins to the stage/bar for the night time entertainment (which was variable but kids enjoyed). the hotel is also v close to the sports pitches if kids want to join in football / other activities and it's about 10 mins walk to the main shops and restaurants on the camp site.
the lake is similarly about 10 minutes away just where the shops are (bella italia is laid out on a giant grid and though huge, is easy to find your way around). once you get lakeside, walking to the right takes you towards peschiera - loads of restaurants there though we mostly stayed closer to home. there was also a restaurant a few minutes to the left (forgotten the name) which was recommended to us and was clearly v popular / trendy, in a great location overlooking the lake but we were disappointed with the service and the food - style over substance we felt.
though we didn't use them, I believe the hotel has bikes you can take free of charge for an hour or so if you want to pop over to the shops or elsewhere in the camp site - a really good idea without having to commit to the cost of bike hire.
general: for those who are interested, there seemed to be a variety of nationalities in the hotel - quite a few Irish folk as it looked like an Irish travel co has a relationship with the hotel but other than that, our impression was it was just a mix
peschiera is close to gardaland, maybe 20mins / half an hour by the time you get there - traffic through peschiera can be v slow. we got an evening ticket which worked really well - still busy but queuing not too bad and not as hot (though watch for the spaceship type thing that you sit in rows on the outside and the seats shoot up in the air - can't remember the name - the queue is hidden inside the attraction - we waited outside for husband/child for about 45 minutes when it looked like there was no queue)
Lake Garda generally was wonderful. we stayed in various locations on the west and south coasts. as well as being a really easy journey from Bergamo, it is very beautiful. we (generally) ate very well (pasta and pizza pretty cheap) and the people were lovely.
we did however find it extremely hot even in early July and whilst we did travel to other gorgeous villages (such as Sirmione / Bardolino / Limone) using the ferries (which are fantastic), we generally found ourselves manoeuvering the kids between the shadows on those trips as they struggled to do anything active (other than be in the pool!) in the daytime heat. there was of course a heatwave throughout Europe last summer and this may have made things worse...will need to go back again for the purposes of comparative research!
overall, a fantastic holiday in the Lake Garda area and a super stay in Hotel Bella Italia
They have an outside pool for hotel guests and an indoor pool too. The indoor pool is small but good enough. The hotel is just next to the camp site with the same name, so some activities are done for both. My 4 year old enjoyed the disco nights at the camp and there were more kids there, so he liked it very much. But, we were there in October, and still there were lots of people, so probably summer is quite crowded.
We were so impressed with the premises. Multiple restaurants, pubs and swimming pools., It was just myself and my partner as we dont have children but it would be a mecca for kids!! So much to do and so safe! There is even a shopping centre, tobacco shop, pub all on site! Also each person staying there has to wear a wrist band which is great for security, especially if you have children running around.
The hotel and campsite are seconds from the lake itself. Also only a 10/15 min walk into Peschiera.
Breakfast was really really nice. Not your usual greasy spoon. Fresh breads, fruits, c cheese and meats each morning.
We stayed in the hotel but in hindsight the campsite would have been better. Was lovely to walk through each evening and see folk out having barbecues with candles lighting and having a bottle of wine. Really chilled out.
Just be prepared for zero nightlife. Everything seems to stop at 11 o'clock so if you're looking for a social scene I would avoid. But if you're looking for nice chilled relaxing break I would highly recommend here!. We will definitely be back!
Now keep in mind time of year, I heard once June goes its chaos!
The apartment assigned to us (no 6) was somewhat spartan and cheaply furnished but unexpectedly spacious and quite liveable, was a gas cooktop, microwave oven, small refrigerator and effective air-conditioning throughout. The bed was very comfortable, although the casual seating in the living room, which consisted of a sofabed and a divan, was much less so. Surprisingly, the apartment, although supplied with washing up detergent, a broom and a mop, did not contain any cleaning up liquid, wipes, or even a tea-towel. Apparently the guest was expected to bring or buy his own essentials. The windows were not screened and there were many flies, but no insecticide in the room - again, the guest had to go out and buy his own fly-spray.
The apartment enjoyed, from the bedroom, a very attractive view over the hotel pool and the lake, although only this apartment and its immediate neighbour had this advantage. There are no balconies to the apartments. It was a quiet apartment, but it should be noted that the opposite end of the building (containing apartments 1-5) abutted the main road and must have been exposed to traffic noise.
Breakfast was taken in the hotel itself, only a few seconds walk away, and was impressively lavish, including cereals, yoghurt, fresh and canned fruit, breads, cakes, pastries, toast, scrambled eggs, cold meats, sausages, juices and coffee, tea or chocolate (from machines).
Hotel guests have exclusive access to the hotel pool and there is a spa in the hotel basement which contains a large warm pool and other facilities (including a gym), all free to guests. In addition, all the facilities of the "camping" are available to hotel guests (who must wear a wristband identifying them at all times). These facilities include more pools, a water park for children, a small supermarket and other shops, restaurants, pizzerias and snackbars. The "camping", when full - as it apparently is all summer - accommodates several thousand people and can be very crowded indeed. It can be a relief to get back into the hotel grounds, which are not accessible to campers and are comparatively secluded.
The grounds of the "camping" extend to the lakeside, where there is a promenade, used by walkers and cyclists, which extends all the way to town, and along which there are a number of independent restaurants, bars and cafes.
It was noteworthy that prices for meals and for supermarket items within the complex were quite high, much of what was available was not of exceptional quality and there was little variety; basically it was "holiday food" with lots of sugar and carbs. Better quality food and meals could be obtained outside the resort, at the nearby restaurants, but at commensurately higher prices again.
We had a special reason for being at Lake Garda, as we were visiting relatives, but nearly all the other guests were European (mostly German) holiday-makers. The hotel is really a part of a resort, and closes (as does the "camping") out-of-season. While the lake and its surrounding towns are extremely beautiful, unless you want to swim in pools or sleep there isn't great deal to do, apart from taking ferry rides (expensive) or visiting theme parks (ditto). However, day visits can easily be taken by train from Peschiera to Venice and Verona, and Mantua is only a short bus-ride away.
No doubt there are better hotel options in Peschiera than the Bella Italia, but the availability of apartments is strong point, and the property is not unattractive if you don't mind being adjacent to a camping area.
Booking was for apartments and this was 100 metres from main hotel. They were a great disappointment being decorated in the 1980's and more like long stay on a budget than business travellers. No free wifi in rooms which at the price was not positve or A/C.
The season was just starting so pool was being filled as wwe arrived in was fun if cold in April. Water shooting turtle wasn't working! The Tulipano apartments had probably been shut up all winter and they had a damp feel to them although they were clean.
The breakfast was good and the staff in the hotel were all very good and helpful.
The hotel is on the furthest corner of the massive camping and holiday village so any distances are from the edge of the site not from the hotel The station is a long distance walkalong the lake front but with several stop off bars availible. The restaurants and bars on site were fine for holiday dining and there were some really good ones in Peschiera.
Lake is beautiful.
BAD POINTS: 30 euro cleaning charge at end of stay!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes it did say in small print but appears nowher on booking.com web entry. No housekeeping at all during 3 night stay.
We have two small children - 3.5 and 1.5 - and the hotel pool was just perfect for them. There is a shallow pool and a deeper pool. The shallow pool was shallow enough for our 3.5 year old to wade about on her own down the slides with her arm bands and even our youngest child could move around on his own under supervision. It was very relaxing and calm - the complete opposite of the campsite pool which we tried once and never went to again. The campsite pool was packed and really not very good for smaller children. We always got a lounger at the hotel pool every day without any problems.
It was so nice just to sit and have breakfast outside on the terrace in the morning. The breakfast was of good quality and offered a good selection that was often replenished. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful - even giving our little boy toy cars when he was crying or complaining. Even the staff that cleaned our room were super nice and helpful with the kids.
We ate once or twice at the adjoining restaurant which was good for the kids or for pizza but we went to the other campsite restaurants more as they are of better quality. However, the playground next to the hotel restaurant was a real plus as the kids can play while waiting for their food.
The room was on the second floor and a really good size with a huge terrace. We were worried about all 4 of us staying in the same room but it worked out really well. And it was quiet! Despite there being a number of other families (mainly Irish and Dutch) we didn't hear a thing at night which was great. Ok, the hotel isn't in the prettiest of locations as it doesnt look out directly over the mountains/lake but it was by far the most enjoyable and relaxing holiday we have spent to date with our little ones. Perschiera is very pretty and there are lots of things to do around the area with kids. We are normally pretty active on our holidays but this time the kids were so happy in the pool, and we were so relaxed that we spent a great deal more time at the hotel than we have ever done. The play room for the kids was also great. We stayed in Hotel Majestic in Malcesine on the way back (also 4 star) which had an amazing view and is similarly priced but it was just awful. I would prefer a good quality hotel over a good view any day.
What can I say - just great. The first time we have said we will go back next year for sure. If you have children up to 5/6 then I would really recommend it. I think if you have older kids they might get bored and want to go to the bigger, noisier pools on the campsite, but for a younger age it was great!
I would recommend staying in the rooms in the hotel itself and not the bungalows/apartments.
