We had a great stay here during a cold and damp start to November. The weather was awful, but the welcome was warm and the room was very comfortable. We stayed in the La Remparts room which was large, elegantly furnished and warm and cosy. The bathroom has a nice shower, but no bath. No problem for us as that is what we prefer, but if you need a soak in a bath, maybe book another room. The breakfast is well organised and a good choice from the buffet. Dinner in the evening is excellent with a good choice of dishes, great service and a lovely restaurant. We'd recommend booking a table (particularly at weekends as it gets busy. There is a seperate guest lounge upstairs where you can make a cup of tea or coffee which is a nice facility. Bergues is an easy drive to Dunkirk and also not that far from Ypres, so it's a good base for exploring the area. Parking was easy as there is free parking in the street and the street is one way. We had a lovely time here and will certainly come back again.

Decided to stay at this charming guest house/restaurant in Bergues for one night to break our journey home from visiting family in Germany, as a result of reading recent Tripadvisor reviews. This establishment is fully deserving of the accolades of previous guests, being close to the centre of what looks to be a beautiful historic fortified town, surrounded by a moat. Sadly for us, the weather/traffic made for a later arrival than planned and we were unable to explore as we would have liked. As others before us have said, this accommodation is a diamond that we wish would remain our secret, but deserves the recognition as being a lovely place to visit even for more than just one night on your way to/from Dunkirque ferry terminal. We reserved a superior double room, which was large and decorated in a lovely french style. With the historic character of sloping bare floorboards, the most comfortable bed, and a well appointed en-suite. The room rate included a nice continental breakfast the following morning at a time agreed on arrival. There doesn’t appear to be private parking for the establishment (not that we asked), as we were more than happy to park on the quiet side street directly in front of the Hotel, this could cause an issue during busier months when travelling with a lot of luggage. We were greeted on arrival and access/room and facilities were fully understood, as we have limited French, and we were asked if we would like a reservation for the restaurant, which we can now also rate very highly. Dunkirque ferry terminal is around a 30 minute journey from here, and we feel that this little gem should not be missed, in fact, we hope to make it our go to place whenever we travel through. We appreciated the warm hospitality, beautiful room, and are very sad that our late arrival combined with the bad weather put a halt to any exploration of the town, but this will definitely be rectified on our next visit. Au revoir, à bientôt, merci ‘Bienvenue Chez Nous’.

A husband and wife team work wonders in a quiet side street of a northern French town that most travellers drive past in their rush to the Channel ferries of Dunkirk and Calais. More a high quality restaurant with rooms than a fully fledged hotel, the coyly named Bienvenue Chez Nous is a shining example of how to make guests feel instantly at home. Our room was huge and comfortable, overlooking the street where there's so little traffic it was easy to park right outside and quiet nights are guaranteed. With hubby on the kitchen stove, producing wonderful dinners and wife in charge of making the place such an engaging mix of practicality, warmth and style, Bienvenue Chez Nous is clearly a labour of love. We have now discovered our essential 'night before the ferry home' stop in France - and will be back soon to discover more about the charming old town of Bergues.

When I read the comments at TA, all is already said. Lovely - French style - rooms. The 'small' room is indeed rather small for 2 people because the bed is set between 2 walls. The other rooms are very spacious and comfortable.

Having stayed at Bienvenue Chez Nous in July, I was so impressed that we booked again for our friend's birthday weekend. Although I had been before, neither my husband or our friends had so this was their first experience of this delightful hotel - it most certainly did not disappoint! Both couples had beautiful rooms - every detail has been thought of including providing dressing gowns, toiletries, water, sweets, port as well as beers and soft drinks in the fridge! We had my friend's birthday meal in the restaurant - it was superb although unfortunately, her husband was unwell so had to have his food in the room (he enjoyed what he was able to eat!). As previously, the welcome from Val was very warm. She kindly booked us into one of her own favourite local restaurants (le Bruegel) for the following night. The breakfast was lovely with ample croissants, bread, home-made jams etc. We loved it so much that the four of us booked again for my birthday in April!
