My wife and I stayed for for 3 weeks in February/March this year.
This was our 2nd time in Penang and our first time in this hotel.
We were very very impressed with Penang and especially with the hotel.
This a very comfortable and convenient place to stay when in Penang.
The location is excellent being directly on Batu Ferringhi beach, close to shops, great restaurants and on the bus route to George town and beyond.
The hotel food is very good and they have an Italian restaurant with tables right by the beach which is perfect for quiet dinners by the sea. There are also plenty of other places to eat but not many right by the sea.
The rooms are clean , bright and convenient. We had a Premier room with a seaview balcony which was perfect for us ( maybe a bit small - but this no major problem.
Nice touches are - free ice and water machines on each floor, free infused ice water all around the beach area.
There are plenty of sunbeds at the beach front area and staff available to help with anything you need.
The rooms are efficiently serviced and the beds very comfortable.
In short we had no problems at all , no criticisms. We would highly recommend the hotel and are really looking forward to returning as soon as we can.
Thank you for an excellent holiday.

First trip to Parkroyal Hotel Penang. Checked in on Saturday afternoon about 3pm and room was ready. Booked the hotel room via the Parkroyal website and found it to be slightly cheaper. I booked 2 rooms and upon checking in was given complimentary upgrade to the next level room as mentioned in the Parkroyal booking website. The Lanai Suite and the Family bedroom with 2 twin bed is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for families coming with 2 children or more as it is very spacious! And the trundle bed can be set up and fit one adult size with max heights 175cm perfectly! Extra towels, water bottles and pillows given within just 10 minutes upon request despite the resort being quite busy. Swimminng pool and the garden landscape surrounding the resort is very clean and well maintained. It does not look old indeed. Delicious pizza and barbeque chicken wing ordered via the Sunset bar and food arrives within just 15 to 20 minutes only. Kids loved the swimming pool a lot. Observed the hotel food price to be fairly reasonable and not excessively expensive with the taste of the food pretty much up to standard. We dined in on Saturday night for the dinner buffet in Cinnamon restaurant and the sea cucumber soup is one of the best. Good social distancing and SOP for COVID 19 observed as every guest is seen wearing mask in public areas. Met 3 ever lovely staff by the name of Suriati and Suara from Javana Lounge and not to forget Mashieta from front desk for their good hospitality, warmth and friendliness.

A good and memorable experience indeed which I am looking forward to return in future.

This hotel is made by its staff. They are a credit to the management- although there was one small issue which was dealt with directly. Everyone from the Concierge, reception, housekeeping and poolside made us feel most welcome. I also think a little respect to them goes a long, long way. I cringed at some guests treatment of the staff.
Greeted on arrival with welcome drinks although my first impressions of the hotel with its cavernous foyer and lounge with only ceiling fans for cooling were a little underwhelming. We were shown to what seemed to be a service lift at one end where we made our way to the ‘Sea View Room’. The sea was just about visible through the trees on a side wing of the hotel.
A room change was asked for and to be honest the staff did there best to accommodate over 2 days. However having unpacked and found the room to be spacious and comfortable we stayed. The review is 4 stars. The reason I have not given it 5 is that the cleanliness of those ‘hidden areas’ - under the bed, top of the safe, top shelf were not up to expectations of a 5* hotel. That said, the visible areas, surfaces, bathroom etc were immaculate.
Within a day I had come to love this hotel. The pool area, plentiful sun loungers, the beach front, lunchtime dining option and its general ambience are splendid. The breakfast buffet during our stay was never overcrowded with a multitude of options catering for all tastes. Poolside bar service by waiters on bicycles is a little quirky but efficient.
Good beach walks along the length of Batu Ferringhi beach and water sports available immediately adjacent to the hotel.
Would recommend.

We always stay at the Parkroyal when we are in Penang and the resort has since last time been completely refurbished and looks beautiful as always. The restaurant however has not improved its service. The food is overpriced and some dishes lack authenticity. A lunch we had there saw us waiting an hour for a Nasi Kandar which after we cancelled the order still came. However it was complementary. Not sure why the order was messed up as we were the only group in the restaurant. Very poor communication. We asked for certain things which didnt come. I found that staff did not engage with customers effectively however they were polite. The F&B management should take responsibility for training staff properly, to listen effectively and to ensure that customer needs are attended to. Not surprising this restaurant was rarely patronised. Overall I found service standards around Batu Ferringhi esp at eating establishments lacking in service and very poor communication. I love Penang and would like to see service standards improved, particularly at the Parkroyal. Even at poolside bar when we were in the way of the bar staff because we put an extra chair to accommodate our group, the waiter made it known we were in the way instead of asking whether he could help with extra seating, not hard.

Check in went smoothly, First impressions, were good. We stayed for 7 nights, breakfast included and booked a room on the 7th floor, which had an amazing view of the beach and sea. It was Chinese New Year and the hotel left us a lovely gift of a red envelope with chocolate coins, they also left us biscuits each day, nice touch. The organisation of breakfast is another thing, not enough staff seating people, ensuring they were entitled to breakfast. This meant people did not wait to be seated, just walked past the queue, mainly Chinese and Arabs took tables that people were already sat at. There are also too many entrances, which makes it easy for people to get in. There was a good variety at breakfast, just ask for packet salt. We ate once at the Italian, had Lamb shank, not Italian, but lovely with a bottle of wine, nice experience. The hotel staff seem reluctant to let you take glasses from the lobby bar to your room. There is a nice shop where you can buy cheap alcohol just remember to pack a bottle opener if you want wine and money exchange across the road. Checkout is at 12 o’clock, we asked if we could keep our room as our flight was not until 20:35, they let us keep it until 14:00, not great as the rooms on the higher floors are not full. Overall experience means we will not return here.

Let's get to the stuff stuff first about this hotel, bed is really comfortable, room was super clean and spacious, great water pressure inside the bathroom and of course the awesome sea facing room which you hear the wave sound clearly. The hotel surrounding is super clean as well, great job to those cleaners, really well done!

Ok here comes the not so good stuff. Check in was suppose to be at 3pm, by the way my family arrived at 4pm on Saturday and we can see all four counters have a long queue of people and some angry guests by the side of the counter asking when they will get their room keys and go to their room.

The same thing happened to me, after I was attended by the receptionist I was told to wait at the lobby cafe to get my room key. Thankfully the cafe servers was super polite and offer some refreshment but I can hear other guests complaining they have been waiting for one to two hours.

After an hour of waiting at the cafe (5pm++) I decided to go back to the same receptionist and ask, ok great my room was ready and off I go with my family but unfortunately for some guests I can see them surrounding the person in charge (a tall lady) and demanding to go their room immediately with some unpleasant tone, this is really bad. If those guests are only staying for a night and they still cannot have access to their room at 5pm, it's hardly any time left for them to enjoy the beach and play.

The hotel bar by the beach isn't that great either, happy hour was from 5pm to 7pm but the price difference between happy hour and normal hours is just few ringgit, so skip the rush and have your drinks anytime you want.

Deck chairs by the beach is sufficient but I can see clearly non hotel guest are taking them up as well, properly because there is no supervision by any hotel staff.

Food choices are limited as they hotel only have two restaurant but the part that annoyed me the most is that the in room dining choices are super duper limited and most menu is only available from 11pm to 6am, what kind of policy is this? Thank goodness there is a McD across the hotel within walking distance, that could help. By the way, you can have food delivery deliver to the hotel with Grab and Food Panda as an alternative.

The most critical problem with this hotel is the parking problem, if you drive here and expect to get a parking place after retuning from outside after 9pm/10pm, good luck and have fun.

A smart hotel with excellent staff. Stayed three nights and enjoyed the stay. We encountered friendly staff at various hotels in Malaysia but these were probably among the best. Rooms very good. Clean and comfortable with a safe and tea/coffee making. There was also an empty fridge that appeared not work. Pulled it out and found it was switched off at the socket. (????). It did work when switched on. Room cleaning carried out promptly but the tea bags used were never replenished. Couldn’t be bothered to chase up so resorted to pinching some from the breakfast hall. Food good. Excellent pool. It is on the beach which is basically unused other than for walking. Swimming in the sea not encouraged because of the presence of jelly fish. Variously described on line as both 4 and 5 star but, in my opinion, much closer to the former. Easy transfer to George Town by the 101 'bus that stops right outside. RM2.70 each way.

We had 2 interconnecting rooms for 5 nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable (really good beds) and although some amenities had been removed to reduce the COVID transmission risk (spare toothbrushes etc), everything was available on request within minutes.

The hotel is nicely designed and well maintained with lots of attractive seating/dining areas. The two pools are good and our children loved the pair of water slides. The 'Amazonia' water park is essentially a splash pad, but is well designed and fun for smaller children. The grounds are very nice and a highlight was the enormous wooden swing.

We used the kid's club several times and there are plenty of free, scheduled craft activities. My boys enjoyed playing with the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. Older children (possibly 5+) can be left with the club staff though toddlers need to be accompanied by a parent.

The staff were uniformly warm and friendly, from the chambermaids right up to the manager, who was very visible and didn't hesitate to get stuck in helping during busy breakfast times.

The hotel clearly took their responsibility to protect against virus transmission seriously, for example ensuring no guest entered the buffet area without a mask, and were proactive but friendly in ensuring guest compliance.

We saw few people swimming in the sea, which was often quite rough, but there are lots of water sports on offer.

All in all, a great choice in Batu Ferringhi, and if we came to Penang again I'm sure we would stay here again. We got a great deal booking direct, better than through Agoda etc, including a good discount off F&B.

We recommend a trip to the National Park which is not far from the resort. A Grab to Georgetown cost 19RM and was less hassle than finding parking (which we had done on the first day).

Took just over an hour to get from airport to hotel. Taxi cost 74 used a grab taxi to return to airport and only cost 45. View when you get into reception is awesome. Check in was a bit slow. Our room was lovely good size with amazing sea view a nice shower room with nice toiletries and towels. Had everything we needed in room only little niggle was that there was no plug near a mirror to dry your hair.
Pool area was nice and we never had any trouble finding beds.
Sea was a bit disappointing as it was very murky but this is not the hotels fault.
Only had breakfast here - found it more that adequate with plenty of choice. What did really annoy me was the amount of food that was taken from the buffet and not eaten by people. Really think the hotel needs to address this. The hotel we stayed in Langkawi had a notice up saying you would be fined if you took food and didn’t eat it. The staff at breakfast were great
The pool side staff now they were something else - always smiling and happy to serve you. They were very professional even when dealing with very rude customer and there seemed a lot of them is this hotel and happy to say they weren’t the British.
Great to have showers in the toilets in lobby when you had a late flight so you could freshen up before leaving hotel.
Wasn’t impressed with the reception staff on check out apart from asking if we had used anything from the mini bar they hardly spoke - no was everything ok with your stay or anything

My husband and I returned to PARKROYAL Penang after getting married here almost 4 years ago. Needless to say, service was still top-notch, if not better. To our surprise, the hotel has been completely transformed with refurbishments with a full 5-star experience.

After informing the hotel that we are vegetarian ahead of our stay, all food outlets were notified of our stay and requirements. Chef Teng went above and beyond to ensure we were provided with delicious, hearty vegetarian options in addition to what was available at the buffet. All staff, including the new GM, were extremely hands-on and made us feel very welcomed despite the hotel operating at full capacity. A special thanks to Chef Teng, Lucas, Hussin, Wan, Jegan, Selina, Mazlina and the bellmen.

Needless to say, we were slightly worried about cleanliness and SOPs during this COVID time, but everything was extremely well managed by the hotel. Buffet lines were kept at a minimum, hotel guests were served instead of being able to touch the food themselves, and we were provided with facemasks and sanitiser in the room.

We'll definitely be back again.

Yes adults can go on the slides. But be careful and keep your arms up and wrapped around your stomach otherwise your elbows will hit the end of the slide. Also there is an area where they have water shoots and falling water buckets etc. good fun.
