Welcome to the malaria-free Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, a three-hour scenic drive from Cape Town to the heart of the Little Karoo, along the Route 62 – the world’s longest wine route. At the foot of the towering Warmwaterberg Mountains, Sanbona boasts 58, 000 hectares of sculpted Cape Fold Mountains, wide-open Karoo plains, indigenous flora and fauna and rare examples of San rock art, some dating back more than 3, 500 years. More than a Big 5 wilderness reserve, it’s the vastness of the landscape, the alluring stillness and isolation amid raw beauty and boundless plains that make Sanbona unique. Explore a wilderness sanctuary in the Western Cape while staying at your choice of three luxurious lodges or a back-to-nature Explorer Camp adventure, each of which is surrounded by ancient folded mountains and endless vistas. Please note that Sanbona is a private reserve and booking in advance is essential. Rates are inclusive of all meals, two game drives per day, bush walks, game drive beverages, tourism levy and VAT.

Sanbona was one of my bucket list destinations and I am so happy that I could take advantage of the amazing special on offer for South African residents. What an unbelievably incredible experience! We stayed at Dwyka Tented Lodge and absolutely loved the privacy and jacuzzi on the deck. Our guide, Casper, has to be one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met - every game drive with him was an absolute treat. Every staff member at Sanbona goes above and beyond - I don’t know if I have ever felt so welcomed and relaxed. The rehabilitation project that is taking place at Sanbona is huge and I look forward to following the progress. I hope I am fortunate enough to visit again in the future.

Sanbona is one of the best private game lodges in South Africa. We have stayed multiple times at Dwyka tented camp. The accommodation and general experience is wonderful. The game rangers are very knowledgeable and the wild life impressive. The have the big 5 and we have had the most amazing encounters with rhino, lion, elephants, cheetah. A must go.
