OH my goodness, this review is LONG overdue!! Stayed here in the summer. LOVED it. Decor is cool and funky. There's art all over the place, awesome furniture...rooms are comfortable, equipped with en suites and TVs. Food is delicious! Setting - breath-taking. Set in the Rila Mountains, with the Rilska river lulling you to sleep at night with it's soothing sounds, it's just gorgeous. I just sat in the garden, taking in all the beauty I was lucky enough to encounter at this place. Hotel owner - one of the coolest people I've ever met, hands down. She made me feel like a friend, instantly. We even went on a day trip together to the Rila Monastery and the mountains. She also has a gorgeous husky which, for a dog lover like me, is a win! I can't wait to go back.
We are from France, couple, go around Bulgaria in August 2016. We spent a night here. The staff is very friendly, helpful, clean room, warm atmosphere, excellent food, soundproof housing, ... What else ??
We stayed at this hotel to visit Rila Monastery. The rooms are really nicely decorated in a range of different styles, and the place is filled with unusual artwork. The people there were very friendly and helpful, and even entertained our nearly-2 year old daughter while we were eating. The restaurant has reasonable local food and a good range of options, although not everything was available. Everything was excellent value, from the price of the hotel to the cost of food.
This is a very unusual hotel. Just off the road to Rila Monastery (they claim 10 minutes, but 15 is a better estimate to the monastery). It is very enthusiastically renovated school, stuffed full of interesting furniture and artwork of every kind. It has TVs in each of the many common areas, and you could keep yourself occupied for hours looking around. However, I only give it 4/5 because I think they missed some practicality in their efforts to make a unique environment. We had a great arty coffee table, but we had to put the luggage on it because there was nowhere else. There were two wi-fi systems, but both seemed weak. We were asked "what time do you want dinner?" on arrival. The menu was huge, but only a fraction was available and it took 45 minutes to get the food. The breakfast, similarly, was really good but slow, and the girl had no idea how to handle my American credit card (I paid in Euros to get on the road a little quicker). I really want this place to succeed - they have invested huge amounts of time and energy making this place - but I do worry about their business model. It is really good value. Still I recommend it as a memorable place to stay.…
