Once we left this Rila Monastery we headed part way down the mountain where we stopped for lunch at this beautiful little restaurant near the Devils Waterfalls. It was 70+ degrees outside so we ate outside and had the best grilled trout ever accompanied by delicious sautéed potatoes and a tomato dip plus an eggplant dip. Yummy meal.

Located in the heart if the Rila Mountains, this hotel is minutes away from UNESCO's famous Rila Monastery. The hotel is immaculate, charming and lovingly cared for by a family for other families. Our room was spacious. Lovely gardens and play areas and free parking surround the hotel. A balcony overlooked the river and the mountains. We enjoyed the peaceful sound of the river. The bed was firm and comfortable and ample enough for two travelers. A restaurant offers a variety of meal choices of home-cooked regional specialties. We loved the blueberry crepes! SUGGESTIONS -- (1) The sign for the hotel is written in Bulgarian Cyrillic -- so be sure to have paperwork in hand with spellings of the name of the hotel in both English Latin Letters and Bulgarian Cyrillic Letters. (2) Also, there is limited digital access in the mountains -- so do bring a paper copy of your reservation details, including the address of the hotel.…
