#1 of 3 Speciality lodging in Barrington
Camping like it used to be... The Steps Barrington is a boutique-style campground for a maximum of 150 people, with 'luxe' amenities (hot water showers, flushing toilets, filtered river water). Located at the beautiful Steps Rapids, on the river you'll find plenty of swimming holes for family fun, try the rapids in one of our kayaks, or take to the trails of our cross-country mountain bike park. The surrounding mountain ranges offer many different walks, hikes or mountain bike adventures depending on your age and skill level. Or you can just sit back and listen to the sounds of the Barrington River cascading its way over the famous Steps Rapids while you watch the wallabies graze.

Simply one of the best campsites I've ever been to. Unbeatable position right by the river, plenty of space, you can have a fire, spotlessly clean amenities block, mountain biking and playing in the river for kids, mellow vibe, heaps of birds and wildlife, close to town if you need a coffee. What more could you want. I also did a kayaking trip which was so much fun.

We had a nice stay. Our area had a few groups but still felt spread out. Staying on a Sunday night the whole campground nearly cleared out. Certainly a much more “camping” feel than being at a caravan park. Two young kids and still had a great time despite rain all day Saturday. Pros; Good amenities Spacious set up Beautiful river Fun on the rapids Cons; Have to fetch all water from amenities.

Campzones have lots of space, plenty of room for tents and shade structures. Trees give shade in summer too which is needed. Feels like camping as it used to be. River is great for swimming and floating. Definitely bring river shoes and the kids loved our fabric lilo/surf-mat to go down the smaller rapids. Life-jackets helped the younger kids to enjoy too. No problems recommending, in fact we will be back!

I found this camp ground peaceful and very tranquil. Normally we go to caravan parks by the beach but I am glad we ventured inland. The amenities were clean and we had plenty of hot water even later in the evening. The shower cubicles are nice and big there is a dish washing area which is handy. No BBQ or other cooking facilities but we knew that are were prepared with our own. There is water to drink. The sites had plenty of space in the "free form" style so you are not too packed in next to others unlike a caravan park. The river side was accessible in plenty of places so your don't have to push through trees to get a swim. The road in its unsealed for about 5-10 kms. We have a 2WD it was dry but we would have been fine in the wet to so no need for 4x4 I think. The bike Park is fun with some good kids rides and something more challenging. The bike tracks are not long in length but they are fun. I didn't have any problems but I suspect if it was super busy the toilets might get a line up since the men's only had 2 cubicle for toilet. The shower had 4 so that's not to bad. I don't know if it's the type of place or the type of people when we were there but there was no parties, offensive people / language which you sometimes get else where. I wish it could have some bush walking options but i guess access might be restrictive. Overall this was a great 6 night family get away from everything. I would certainly return

Thank you for your review, it is lovely to hear that you appreciated everything that we love about The Steps - open spaces, nice amenities, quiet crowd and lots to do. We are working on bush walking tracks as we speak and will hopefully have them in place by the time you return.
