My husband and I stayed at the Adventure Lodge while doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We got the 'freedom package' which was definitely worth the money! John and Gillian were fantastic hosts. We started the day with a lovey cooked breakfast before setting off to the crossing starting point with John in his van. We were provided with a packed...

We enjoyed our stay here - the room was comfortable enough, and we had a microwave and small table to eat at. The owners were friendly and willing to offer advice about walks etc. However, I'm not sure I would recommend booking the "tongariro freedom package" which we booked - on reflection it didn't seem that great value for money...

Hi there and thanks for your review - the package is truly worth it and if you did everything separately - i.e your own breakfast, dinner, lunch, arrange own shuttle cost, t-shirt, certificate we have worked out it costs approx $50 more - depending of course where you ate for dinner and what you ate. We provide for dinner a...

My friend and I stayed in the lodge for two nights while we did the Tongariro crossing. There was a lovely atmosphere and we were made more than welcome by Gillian, John and the staff. Our room and the shared bathroom were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great and they were accomodating with dietary needs. There is also a well...

Thanks so much for your review and we are pleased you thought our service was special and personalised as this is what we are aiming for, however we do know we cant please all the people all the time and everyone has different expectations.

We choose this accommodation because of it's location to hike the Tongariro crossing. Check-in was a breeze and after settling in a tray was brought with breakfast for the following day as we were to leave before breakfast would be served. We drove our own car the Ketetahi carpark where a shuttlebus brought us to the start of the crossing....

Hi there and thanks so much for your great review - it is possible to drive your vehicle to the start but it does create huge parking problems and road access jam ups with buses trying to get past people who have parked in a rush and left their vehicles jutted out on roadways.

Comfortable, clean accommodation. Jill did a great job on our evening meal which was included as part of our package - it was delicious and a welcome treat after doing the Tongariro Crossing. John kept us entertained on the bus transfer to Tongariro and it's perfectly located to explore the area. We did a kayak trip to Whanganui from there...

Hi and thanks for your great review - we are very happy you like everything we do here - we are trying to get it right but know people have different expections than ours.

All nice and clean, heating works even in summer which is a big advantage if you come half frozen from a trip -- only walls between units are paper-thin - you can hear snoring of other guests (:-) and probably they can listen to yours (:-). Otherwise I would give five stars.

Hi there - thanks for your review - however even in big flash hotels you may not be able to hear next door but often lift sounds, doors opposite opening and closing and on busy roads traffic outside. We are not flash but hope things like thin walls next door are made up with by our great service and food!

The people running the place is nice. Then we were taken to our room that was in the "lodge". The lodge was a bit run down and there was construction materials on the outside. Also we were sharing a bathroom with others, which wasn't clear when my boyfriend was reserving the room. The bathrooms had wet towels from other guests...

Hi there, we are sorry that you had a bad experience - we couldnt help the building materials outside as we are building a bar in the lodge so our guests can enjoy our extra services available - the building materials will all be gone soon. As far as the towels guests use - we have provided a basket for...

We stayed here as a family, some of whom walked the Tongariro Crossing and some didn't. We chose the package including breakfast, packed lunch and dinner and it was so worth it. It was so nice to have all of that sorted. Gillian was incredible at offering advice on the crossing, helping find options for others, local recommendations. The service...

Thanks so much for this review - and love that you think our "Package" was really worth it! We have worked out if you did everything yourself seperately it would be at least $50 more.

We stayed in Adventure lodge for 2 nights whilst we were in the area for the Alphine crossing. We'd paid extra to have our own room & bathroom and I think it was worth the price. The rooms were large & spacious, the bathrooms were clean. It was a little chilly due to the size, but once the small heater...

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to point out that we had an earthquake here - even though it was in a different Island and we only got the flutter of the shock. Adventure Lodge was an unexpected lodging find. Although rustic, it provided all the amenities of a much larger place. Full breakfast with lots of friendly talk among staff and guests. Although the lodge caters to hikers/outdoor adventurers, we were treated as special guests also. I was impressed with the knowledgeable owners and their willingness to help us in any way...
