We stayed here for two nights recently in a private ensuite room. We had requested a quiet room and got the room next to Reception which was a bit noisy, 3am people talking(!) but I guess it was away from the dorm rooms which could have been worse. My partner originally described the room as 'a coffin' with its plywood...

Such cool place! Cool layout and the owners obviously love their job and make an effort to make your stay enjoyable. So many hidden gems (sauna, movie room etc) and a great energy about the place. Thanks and I'll def be back

The place is extremely sufficient for a quick hike and stay in Tongariro, and honestly, though it may be a rustic and put together, it was so warm and cozy! It made me feel like I was on a camp trip. It had great facilities including kitchen, bathrooms and lounge (including the magic closet). I would highly recommend earplugs maybe...

I came up with a large group to do the Tongariro Crossing, and the Crossing Backpackers was exactly what we needed. Due to the fickle nature of the weather, we had to rebook several times, and Leanne was extremely helpful and accommodating. She even set things up to make it work well for our ever-changing group of young people. The...

Stayed here for 2 nights when we did the Alpine Crossing. Very nice place to stay, good showers and toilets and a kitchen that has all you need for cooking. 30$ for shuttleservice to the crossing and back. Buy food on your way because closest supermarket is about 20min away with car. 4/5, two thumbs up!

We booked our shuttle to the mountain through the hostel and when the bus company started giving us bother Leanne from the hostel stepped to our defence and made sure we were looked after - could not have asked for better,...

When our original plans to camp outdoors were thwarded by sub-zero temperatures, we found this place and we loved it. The staff worked really hard to accomodate us by finding the best room configuration and making sure everything was set for our last minute arrival. It's not the Ritz, but a friendly, well-run lodging for backpackers and outdoorsy types who...
