I stayed here with me friend (both of us 17) and my parents. When we first walked in, we were all pretty disappointed. The room was musty and a little dirty, and it made my asthma play up quite badly. However once we got settled we really enjoyed it. The beds were very comfortable and the place had a nice...

If you have kids who love animals, or are an animal lover yourself, you will love the night you spend at this B&B. Ann has a menagerie of miniature farm animals - small cows, llamas, alpacas, munchkin cats, and giant birds - ostriches and emus. Our visit with the animals was a highlight of our visit. They also have a...

Our children loved it at big bird bnb . Ann and Ross are genuinely warm and welcoming. Our room in the house was very comfortable, the bathroom clean. Ann's love of animals is reflected in her happy and quiet herd which include if you can believe a miniature horse which the girls rode, sheep, goats, alpacas, a lama, pigs, emus,...

Thank you for your enthusiastic enjoyment of the "unique collection" of my X-factor "outside family". This is fulfillment for me - offering a "homestyle farm experience" for those who enjoy animals - then see the "memories forever" being etched into kids experience as it happens - my "dream" is alive!

We booked a cabin, and a room in the house for our teenage and younger children, as the bungalow was booked out. When received a message saying the hosts will be back at 6.30pm, and there would be a chance to pet the animals. We had also been upgraded to the Chalet. The chalet was dirty, and hadn't been aired...

It was an unfortunate day all round. We had to go to Auckland unexpectantly and hoped to be home earlier, but got held up in Auckland and were not able to get home in reasonable time. Our first day away in months, turned to custard and we can only apologise for everything that was lacking, and hope future reviews restore...

We needed a place to stay before going to the Waitono caves, and found the Big Bird. The hostess is really nice and friendly, but the descriptions of the B&B is not exactly accurate. Our "cottage with an ensuite bathroom" turned out to be a shaky, old and mouldy caravan. Price should be lowered a lot. The animals and birds...

As clearly explained over the phone to the person booking last minute - the normal accommodation was all booked out - it was 3rd Jan, and we had just added a portacabin and removal unit to cater for extra demand. The emergency offer we made was the cabin on wheels - newly arrived/ situated/yet to be landscaped, but had been...

I was travelling with a group of friends and since there were so many of us, we booked a 'bungalow' for the night. The bungalow came with a kitchenette right next to a small dining area, a small shower and toilet, 2 queen size beds, and 3 single beds. It is the biggest room available for a large group/family. We...

Stayed only one night here whilst visiting Waitomo caves and found it a very friendly place to stay. A tour of the farm and being able to touch the animals, even an Ostrich, was a bonus. Breakfast was good and the addition of an Ostrich egg omelet was a first for us.

The owners are lovely and they make a big effort to ensure you are made to feel welcome. I loved the range of animals and being able to feed them. The rooms are a little tired, and could do with a deep clean, but it is a working farm stay. Overall all a vry pleasant stay.

I mean really, where else in NZ are you going to get to do that?! The accomodation was delightful, beds comfortable, cottage warm on a cold winters night and breakfast was super! All home-made, bread, yoghurt and muesli options. We loved Ann and her very friendly positive approach, and of course, the animals! What a lovely alternative to a boring...

This 'farm stay' type of accommodation is more than just a place to sleep and have breakfast. We were a large family group of 14 and had a great time dispite the wet, wintery weather. Anne accommodated us well. She was friendly, kind and helpful. The beds were comfortable, rooms were warm, a tv in each room, with great food...
