We booked one night at Playa Escondida as part of the Carnaval holidays in Ecuador. Before arriving, we let the Head and Owner of Playa Escondida with who we booked our night that we had a technical issue with the bus that was supposed to take us to Atacames, the city where Play Escondida is located. Due to this issue,...

This Eco-resort on the Ecuadoran coast is probably perfect for visitors looking for a different experience. Having ridden motorcycles in hot, humid weather all day, we were ready to relax and cool down in an air-conditioned room, but our accommodation was changed at the last minute due to Carnaval week-end. Instead we ended up at Playa Escondida, where we continue...

very good place away from the bustle of Atacames with hummingbirds flying around. cheap rooms and good food, but service is a bit too slack : for example they just have papaya for a 6$ fruit salas because they didn't get other kind of fruit like mangos, bananas, pineapple and anything else you can find anywhere around! they must improve...

The place is really beautiful as you have a private beach for the hotel. You dont have any noise and you can relax in "hamacas" while you have a nice view of the ocean. From the main roadway is 10 kilometers road to enter the property. You have 1 restaurant here but it is kind of expensive as you dont...

If you are looking for tranquility then you need look no further than the Playa Escondida. For a solo traveller at low season it was a little too tranquil at times as I found myself the only person staying in the hotel - but that's not a complaint. It is an eco-hotel so be prepared for the compostable toilets which...

What a great stay we had at Playa Escondida. We visited during the low season and had the whole place and staff to ourselves. We found the staff to be very courteous. One evening we brought back a fresh fish that we'd purchased from a fisherman in town and they happily cooked it up with us...and to perfection! Just an...

Judith has created a little haven of tranquility and beauty. We loved that the treehouse type dwellings are open to nature, but have mosquito nets. The property is well maintained and we wished we could stay longer!

Much has been written about this little jewel of a place set down on the northern Pacific coast of Ecuador, about an hour south of Esmeraladas airport. Simple, open-air rooms in the casitas are available for rent at modest prices, or, one can rent an entire small casa. There are no cooking facilities in the spacious rooms, but a restaurant...

My girlfriend and I stayed at Playa Escondida for two nights in August. We enjoyed our stay but were a little disappointed by a number of elements. Firstly, the reservation process was a bit odd. The owner requested that I go into a branch of her Ecuadorian bank and transfer the total amount of the stay, in order to reserve...

Playa Escondida is a beautiful oasis where you can feel removed from society but still be connected. The beach is beautiful and the cottages are ideal. There are no flush toilets but that doesn't have that big of an impact because of how luxurious the rooms are. The main lobby has a small bar and restaurant that has pretty high...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In South America, from the foot hills of the Andes Mountains of Ecuador, the river Malpelo winds down to the Pacific Coast forming a beautiful bay now called Playa Escondida (hideaway beach). Truly off the beaten track, with the nearest town fourteen km's away, you are assured of privacy, safety, a pristine beach and gentle surf. The backdrop for this idyllic shoreline is an ecological refuge of 100 hectares. Here we are dedicated to protecting the diverse flora and fauna of the semi-tropical forest from local hunters, logging, cattle and shrimp farming, not to mention commercial tourism; all forces which the threaten the fragile eco-system of this vital littoral. Come and experience the magic of one of the last frontiers on the Pacific Rim. The refuge currently has capacity for thirty people. Prices range from US$7 to $25 per person. There is a secluded area with lots of shade for camping, with showers. Children up to 10 years old pay half price. ... more   less
