Always love having a meal here. Changed over the years but always happy with the welcome and menu. Set up is great for family's or couples. always a good choice of beer, wine and whisky. We cannot rate the accommodation as never stayed as we stay local at family.

What was intended simply as an overnight stop-over on the way from London to Islay turned out to be an added bonus to our holiday. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable with a great view out over the loch, the public rooms were also very pleasant with lots of original artworks and big pottery. The food was excellent....

ate at the West Loch Hotel this afternoon. Service pleasant, attentive and with a smile. For starter I had pulled pork, mash and stornoway black pudding. Main was smoked haddock, prawns, and crushed potatoes in creamy dill sauce. I was driving so unable to sample from an extensive range of malt whiskies. definite recommendation, I will return here

Great location for a stay before going to Islay. Rooms and service are fine, but the restaurant was the biggest surprise. Food was excellent, very delicate and among the best we had on our whole trip in Scotland. Also the bar is a great place to relax.

By the time of our stay at the West Loch, we had been to Paris, southern France, Isle of Wight, Glasgow, and Jura. the smoked haddock we had at West Loch was amazing. On top of that, our room was terrific and the staff was friendly and helpful. This was a terrific find. It is on the bus route and...

Lovely location with a great little walk over the road and down to the loch. Rooms are pleasant if rather old fashioned and the evening meal in the restaurant was good, as was the nice selection of whiskey to start my holiday off

Stayed here one night 4 years ago on the way to Islay - it's positioned just a short drive from the ferry terminal - and enjoyed it so much that we returned there last month when once again en route to Islay. Friendly welcome, comfortable room, decent reasonably priced food. Next morning was sunny, still and warm, and I had...

Tarbert was a half way meeting point for me(staying on Arran) and my aunt and uncle (staying in Carradale) on a seriously wet day. We just need somewhere warm and dry with a view . The West Loch was perfect. We were made to feel very welcome and given generous amounts of tea and coffee with lovely tablet on the...

On our way back from Campbeltown we were so hungry we had to stop somewhere. We were so lucky we stopped at that restaurant. We ate there on 28.05. The waitress working that evening was very friendly and polite. When she brought our food and we started eating we were pleased instantly. Everything on our plates was perfect in our...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A small, family-run establishment, the West Loch Hotel dates from around 1780, and is well known locally for having some of the best food in the area. We are well placed for guests passing through, and for those wishing to spend longer in the area, exploring Argyll & the Isles. Ideally located for people heading on the whisky trail to Islay (just minutes from the ferry), most guests find our large whisky selection the perfect start to their adventure! A charming, former coaching inn, the hotel has been sympathetically modernised over the years, retaining many of its original features. Our rooms are dog-friendly, with a choice of double or single rooms, and we have also got family rooms available for those travelling with children. Able to cater for small events, from birthday parties to weddings, we always go the extra mile to make sure your special occasion is extra special. ... more   less
