Enjoyable stay enhanced by good weather and excellent choice of nearby restaurants. The parador staff were friendly and efficient esp Juan Carlos and the barman and the flowers really tasteful. Even with no restaurant the quality and choice nearby was perfect.

A wonderful castle with lots of atmosphere, you can imagine the action when it was invaded, you can see the results of some this on the façade. The medieval town is a dream. Good comfortable stay with friendly staff and cervice.

So many reviewers have made negative comments about the attitude of the staff so we arrived expecting the worst. Couldn't have been further from the truth - the staff were excellent, polite, helpful and friendly. You may not have got a "have a nice day" but then who wants such a false greeting! Julia, who looked after the breakfast room...

Excellent hotel - unfortunately heavy rain and a short stay precluded exploring old town. Helpful staff with excellent recommendations for local restaurants as hotel does not serve dinner. Follow signs on roundabouts - not sat-nav - to arrive at car park.

Our stay here was a lovely experience. Our room was superb with wonderful views across the water and the sunsets were amazing. The breakfasts were good. The one big downside is the parking. It's essential to get there early - very small area.

Do you want to stay in a piece of living history? This is your chance. A ninth century castle that's been turned into a comfortable hotel with all amenities. Rooms are comfortable, breakfast in the covered courtyard is great, the location in the centre of the pretty old town is wonderful and the lift down to the walk along the...

Hotel was a former palace. It is absolutely beautiful and situated at the main square (Plaza de Armas), which is lively and has two good tapas bars. The breakfast is excellent. Beds are comfortable and the bathroom is large and modern. The breakfast is delicious. Only one issue. We drove and it was very difficult to find a way to...

We were sorry we spent only one night in this lovely, historic parador overlooking the town and port of Hondarribia. The room was elegant with antiques and art. We enjoyed sitting on our sofa looking at the view. We had a great experience with the staff. We wish there were more restaurants close to the hotel as the parador did...

Hondarribia itself is a lovely little fishing / sailing village almost on the Spanish / French border. The parador is at the top, in an old castle which has been restored in the most remarkable way, leaving great chunks of mediaeval wall empty and all but unsupported, but filling the rest with furniture and accoutrements which make your jaw drop...
