Pousada de Arraiolos Nossa Sra. da Assunção, Arraiolos 7040-093 Portugal
This facility was once a convent, BEST thing about it, worth seeing: the convent chapel, which is literally covered in blue tiles, all with biblical stories to tell. The facility has been completely remodeled and modernized, with ok not luxurious rooms, and reasonably good food (not anything special). The setting is lovely, but do NOT let them give you a room like mine, staring into a concrete inner courtyard instead of the lovely countryside. It is quite far from Evora or anything at all. The town of Arraiolos is downright creepy, it is so deserted. We felt like we were on the set of a horror film there.
Loved the ambience, the sympathetic design of the accommodation without spoiling the historical vibe and appearance of the original convent. Comfortable room and loved the heated indoor pool while it was raining and cold outside.
The pousada has been beautifully and sensitively converted with 17 rooms in the old convent and another twenty-something in a new wing with balconies overlooking the outdoor pool. The convent church is very pretty, with blue and white tiles of Bible scenes on the walls and a gilded altar. The property is laid out in courtyards, with art, both Baroque and modern, embellishing the hotel's public areas. There are many little nooks with fireplaces and sofas. There is also a tennis court, an indoor pool and a sauna, as well as a small but well equipped gym. You can book massages in the spa.
The hotel is out of town but the restaurant had a wide range of tasty food, and the staff were helpful and friendly. There is free parking on site. If you are cycling, the pousada is at the bottom of a steep but short hill. The wifi was strong and consistent. The setting is tranquil and calm with only the sound of the wind for company.
In Arraiolos there is a Pousada that surprised me pretty much. It has a very isolated, beautiful location and is surrounded by a big park with a lot of green. When I was there the Pousada seemed totally empty, there was 1 car only on the parking lot in front of the hotel. The entrance of the Pousada looks extremely monumental and beautiful, this building used to be an old Convento. The funny thing here is that to the very old part, there were added very modern, new wings in bright white colour. At first sight it seemed a bit strange to me to mix up architectural styles in such an extreme way, but to be honest, after a while I liked it, and I found this Pousada pretty stylish. Well, was it a Pousada, or was it my private house in Arraiolos? ;-)) While I was there I did not see 1 other person. The restaurant was totally empty, the big garden with wonderful trees was totally empty, around the pool was absolutely nobody else. What a luxury, I loved it to have all the beauty of this hotel all to myself. No idea why this Pousada seemed so empty. It was in September, the weather was wonderful with temperatures of around 40 degrees in the shade. And this is a really nice Pousada. Well kept. Stylish garden (a bit cool, yes, but I liked it). Lovely 180 degrees view from a HUGE terrace! I liked it here...
We stayed here for three nights and had a lovely time. The buildings are amazing and very unusual due to it being a Convent many years ago. It has been sympathetically upgraded and renovated and our room was splendid. There is a swimming pool outside and a lovely restaurant but the highlight for me was the lovely views and the gorgeous chapel. The staff were very helpful and accommodating and were always cheerful. I would certainly recommend this hotel as it is wonderful and peaceful.

Hello, yes there was a hairdryer in the bathroom. I didn't use it as I always take my own, so not sure how effective it was. There are a few more details on the Pousada.pt website. I hope you enjoy your stay.
