Very good hotel located on the magnificent Sognefjord. Hotel has two buildings: the original one (no elevator) and a new one -- ugly from outside but with simple comfortable rooms. Beautiful surroundings, nice walk to the village. Convenient home base if you want to explore the area. Excellent buffet for breakfast and dinner with enormous number of dishes. Staff is...

The Kviknes Hotel, which dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, was a favorite resort of Kaiser Wilhelm II, and a visit there makes it easy to understand why. Located on the magnificent Sognefjord, the hotel's setting is idyllic. A short walk out of town leads to a hiking trail which, although easily negotiable, nevertheless ascends well over 1000 feet and...

This hotel has an excellent location and the mix of old and new is probably unique. Staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. The bedrooms however are dated and in need of renovation. The room lighting left a lot to be desired and there are no tea/coffee facilities offered in the bedrooms. However the location and views make up the...

Balestrand is a magical place...after a thrilling ride on the Sognefjord ferry, we landed at the Kviknes. The room is very plain, no frills, but comfortable. High points: walking around at twilight with very few people around, visiting the quaint old church, and the amazing seafood buffet! Wish we had more than one night there!

Stayed at the end of September on a Newmarket tour which was excellent value for money. Though we were in the new wing, which will be refurbished soon, it was very clean and comfortable. The room was on the 7th floor overlooking the village and two aspects of the fjord. My one criticism of the room would be the lighting....

Our feelings about the Kviknes Hotel are really contradictory. The hotel must have been absolutely charming in its day, but unlike many other more positive reviewers, we thought that ambience of the lovely old hotel was spoiled by tasteless renovations and furnishings. The location is still stunning as are the views, including those from the immense dining room. But with...

We really enjoyed this old hotel in such a lovely town. It has an excellent buffet dinner with a wide variety of food and good quality. The breakfast buffet was just as good. The only issue we had was that there was kettle or fridge in the room. There is no gym on site but guests have access to one...

Lovely historic hotel in Balestrand. The rooms are not modern, but clean with an awesome view, whether your room is facing the front or the back of the hotel. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is very good quality. They have complimentary tea/coffee every afternoon in their beautiful lounge rooms decorated with antique furnitures and lovely paintings, which makes...

Our room was plain but clean. New section rooms have decent view. Food options were amazing. Seafood was fresh and well prepared. Breakfast options just as varied as anywhere. Staff was helpful. Take advantage of the nature trails for a day hike for views of the fjiord.

We took the recommendations of all others and asked our agent to assure we had a room in the old building and were pleased we did. They needed to upgrade us to a larger room upon arrival as the "standard" rooms facing the fjord are a bit small and we were staying multiple nights. It took a bit of time...
